Wowee.., we just had to score all of these when we saw
‘em! Chasing fire trucks was always a fun when we were
kids, and there is a great mystique about fire fighting. These
all metal helmets are used, of course, in terrific condition,
and have a leather suspension and leather chin strap. Has a
badge-like emblem on the front. What we found fascinating
was the reinforcement on the top of the helmet, which looks
like a kraken’s tentacles reaching down. Yeah, we get it, it’s if
stones or other heavy material falls on your head, it won’t
crush your skull. The perfect gift for head-cover collectors!

getting bumped and jostled by

my take-away: the industry has
gone nuts! Every binocular
maker is now making riflescopes. At Swarovski I looked
at a little 8x32 ED binocular
that cost $2442, and of course
the prices spiraled north for
more powerful ones. Are they
nuts!? It just seems to me that
all reality is getting lost with
this stuff, and we refuse to be
a party to it. Hell, you can get
far superior optic deals from
Ottmar’s Selection here. Zeiss,
Leitz, etc. isn’t exactly chopped
liver. But as you peruse this catalog you’ll find much that’ll
warm the cockles of your
heart. And with that, I’m off to
pillage Europe for some really
fine Swiss and NATO surplus.

Hevea brasiliensis, or rubberwood, is a hardwood belonging to the Euphorbiaceae
family with very little tendency to warp or crack. Its dense grain makes kiln drying
reliable, shrinkage minor, and HARD! Not only is it a superior furniture material, it’s
the most ecologically sensible lumber used today. Rubberwood is a sap producing
species (from ‘em, we get all the latex rubber used in the world), and because after
about 26-30 years, yields get so low that the planters fell them and re-plant new
ones. So, unlike wood that is cut down for the sole purpose of producing furniture,
Rubberwood is used only after it completes its latex producing cycle and dies. And
clearly how it measures up in comparison to other hardwood is pretty remarkable...

NAVAL CHARTS OF
THE WORLD As a lover of
anything nautical, when a
stack of old charts, that had
been in use by the US Navy,
became available, we jumped
on the deal. These come from
all over the world! Dating as
far back as the 1890’s, with many corrections made to
update them. It’s a fantastic history of friend owning and correcting charts from
the foe and actually using them. For example, Golfo di Pozzuoli, including Rada di
Castellammare di Stabia with Torre Annunziata, originally engraved and published
in London by the Admiralty 7th October 1890, with new corrected editions from
1902, 1911, 1917 and large corrections 13th Sept. 1940… And these came out of
the chartroom of a US Naval vessel. Gorgeous stuff. These charts are all about 40”
x 27.5”, and printed on very heavy stock. Many have the corrections made by the
quartermaster’s mate on them, in red or blue. The charts are all yellowed with age,
and are very beautiful in their own right. Works of art, if you will. Since they depict
random and obscure places on the globe, with many of these localities re-named,
given the course of history and politics, we’ll just sell them randomly, okay? All in

late ‘60’s, for their Army, multi-band, portable radio. Six
bands; from TR to UKW (FM)150 - 350 kHz (1÷6), to 87.6 –
104 Mhz, and everything in between. Comes with an additional huge long antenna for short-wave, along with the
self-contained, telescoping unit. Has earphones, power cord

CASES SET Well okay then, you needn’t
be a doomsday prepper to acquire these fabulous, all aluminum, nesting, stacking cases. They
are great for securing any sort of treasure you
might have. We had them made to our specs,
using heavy, thick 1mm aluminum sheet, with ribbing on the larger ones for strength, with heavily
reinforced, top corners made of aluminum castings. This was designed so that you could stack
like-sized cases, without them slipping off of each
other, plus add strength. The handles are made of
steel with rubber grips, which are spring-loaded. The
clasps are made of steel, too. The handles and clasps
are riveted to the body. no tack welding! The lids are
hinged on the wide side, back, and have hold-open tapes.
The upper edges of the open cases have rubber seals, to
prevent moisture from entering the cases. Here are the

sell to fix a detail on a miniature ship.
In the process, like a damned fool
I splashed a drop of acetone on the
lens. Reacting intuitively, I immediately
wiped. Damn, that was the end of a
couple hundred bucks! Then the search

began. Yeah.., just try and find real
quality glass magnifiers, that are
aspheric or better aplanatic. That lead
me to A. Schweizer GmbH. Been
around for 167 years. Use only Schott
(Zeiss) white glass; grind all their own.
In fact, make all the components in
house! Aplanatic lenses have more
edge to edge clarity, without distortion
by minimizing spherical aberrations and

LACO Founded in Pforzheim, Germany in 1925, by Frieda Lacher and Ludwig Hummel, Lacher & Co. was one of several
watchmakers that were contracted by the Reich to produce the legendary pilot and observation watches for the Luftwaffe.
Both watches employed the 22 line Durowe bridge anchor movements, whose fine adjustments were done to chronometer
specs. They were an important navigational tool, back then, and we are pleased to offer them in our fine watch selection.

SOVIET RUSSIAN CEREMONIAL DAGGERS
Last Fall we had three Soviet Russian Ceremonial Daggers on
our catalog’s back cover. The first we’d had in over eight
years, and they were scooped up the second day our catalogs hit, but that’s the problem with rarities. Our man in
Russia, Yuri, goes crazy searching for them, for us, and
scored some. Yeah.., three, to be exact. One is a 1992 Naval
dagger has a Sailing Ship & Anchor, the other two have the
Kremlin on the scabbard, from 1957. As with so many things
Russian, these are works of art. The daggers have solid brass
ferrules, with engraving. The handles are faux ivory. The
blades are highly polished steel, with the makers and dates
engraved. The scabbards are made of leather-covered wood,
with brass. The daggers lock into the scabbards and release

GERMAN NAVY SHIP’S
RADIO-ROOM CLOCKS
ca.1960’s
Genuine, bona-fide surplus 1960’s German Navy radio-room,
bulkhead mounted 8-day ship’s clocks. Made by two famous
German clockmakers, Bürk and Junghans, made with a nickel-plated brass housing, with watertight, hinged bezel with a
screw-bolt lock. Has a 7-jewels, 8-day movement, with hour,
minute, and sweep second hands. You key-wind it on the
face, where there’s also the slow-fast adjustment. Both
clocks have the two three-minute radio-silence markings in
red, and the Junghans also has the green listening markings,
per the International standards for the use of 500 kHz, which
first appeared in the second Berlin International Radio-telegraphic Convention, which was signed November 3, 1906
and became effective July 1, 1908. The second Service
Regulation affixed to this

Convention designated 500 kHz as one of the
standard frequencies to be employed by shore
stations. All of these clocks were thoroughly
checked out by our German clockmaker, and
run beautifully. All have some discoloration and
scratches on the dial and case, due to their

Timepieces are fully wound-up, and set for the customer’s local time, and
sent per 2-Day express/insured service, so you should have plenty of time to
either Love or Hate it… So please don’t wear/carry the timepiece for a
week, or more, risk banging it against doorframes, or whatever, and then
expect us to take it back! If you Hate it, simply return it, unused and
unworn, at your cost. (We suggest insuring it for its full value). All new
Timepieces sold by us are guaranteed by their makers for 24 months, and
therefore all warranty claims are handled by the Makers, or their authorized
repair facilities, not us. Each Timepiece has its respective certificate
instruction warranty card or booklet with it. There you will find the
addresses and telephone numbers of the makers. Remember: taking the
Timepiece to an unauthorized repair facility voids all warranties!
All Timepieces we sell are mechanical, unless otherwise noted. Mechanical
means either manual-wind or automatic (self-winding). Being mechanical
devices, they’ll never have the dead-on accuracy of quartz or atomic
clocks/watches. That simply isn’t possible… How active you are, how you
place your watch on the nightstand, temperature, and magnetic fields, all
argue against perfection! If your Timepiece gains a few seconds/minutes
over a noticeable period, try laying it out differently at night when you take
it off. Face down; face up; on left edge; on right edge. If you use a watch
winder, all bets are off, and you’ll just have to re-set the time manually.
In order to get the proper power reserve out of a mechanical watch,
(typically 38-42 hrs), you must first fully wind the mainspring, gently! You’ll
feel it tighten up before it’s fully wound. This is especially true of automatic
(self-winding) watches. You must fully wind it before wearing.
No matter what, always handle a Timepiece, its crown and pushers and
stoppers gently. There’s no need to force anything, on so small a machine!

In the years between 1980-1985 only 600 of these
monster, wide angle porroprism units were built,
making them the second rarest of all Zeiss binoculars!
Made in the DDR, these glasses had a 5.5º field of
view, more than any comparable glasses at the time!
Moreover, they retailed at more than twice of what the
physicist that designed them made per month, bring
on the curtailment in production. This glass has center
focus, with rubber eyecups and the original leather
strap, and a fantastic,
fitted leather case.

Wow, terrifically done, highly detailed, in beautiful colors, this is the cross-section of the motor
ship Willem Ruys. Her keel was laid down January 1939 at the De Scheide yards in Vlissingen,
but with the outbreak of the war construction was halted, and she lay on the slipway. After the
war it was decided to complete her, becoming a matter of national pride. She was launched and
christened on the first of July 1946. On December 2, 1947 the 631’ long, twin screw, 21,119
grt, powered by eight Sulzer diesels producing 27,000 shp, with a top speed of 22 knots, sailed
on her maiden voyage from Rotterdam to Indonesia. In
January 1965 she was officially handed over to Italy’s
Flotta Lauro, refitted and re-christened the Achille
Lauro. Printed on heavy stock and mounted on MDF
wood, hand-varnished and comes complete with
hanging hardware. A large piece, but so glorious!
