Saint Ann and Saint Brendan Collaborative
Pastoral Planning and Disciples In Mission
It’s hard to believe it but Lent is right around the corner! The forty
days of Lent are such a wonderful opportunity to empty our lives
of the excesses that distract us from noticing Christ’s nearness to
us. It’s so important to remember that the sacrifices we undertake
during this penitential season are meant to dispose us to a deeper
fulfillment. We don’t fast to lose weight! We fast in order to experience more keenly our most basic hunger for God. Just as important as the question of what we will “give up” for Lent is the
question of what we will “take up” to fill the space opened by our
sacrifices. This Lent the parishes of St. Brendan and St. Ann will
be launching a faith formation series to address a very important
need in our collaborative community: adult faith development.
Survey after survey indicates that the vast majority of Catholic
adults do not understand the basic teachings of our Faith. On a
more positive note, the same surveys indicate that Catholic adults
have a desire to learn more about the teachings of the Church. To
answer this need, each Friday during Lent one of our parishes will
hold a brief faith formation event. Each event is designed to expose its participants to a different dimension of the Church’s public worship of God. At each event I will offer a brief reflection on
some basic aspect of what the Catholic Church teaches and believes. Though geared toward adults, families are most welcome to
attend. Hopefully by sacrificing one hour of your time each Friday
during Lent, your hearts and minds will be filled with a new appreciation and understanding of the beautiful truths God has revealed
to us for our salvation. Please consider joining us and inviting your
friends to come along as well!
Blessings,
Father Tom
