RECTORY OFFICE HOURS Monday – Friday 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM & 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM Closed on Holy Days of Obligation 215-725-1240 Website Facebook CYO Facebook TSC www.stceciliafc.org www.facebook.com/SaintCeciliaSchool www.saintceciliacyo.org Saint Cecilia Catholic Youth Organization www.teenservicecorps.org MASS SCHEDULE Sunday Vigil 5:30 PM (Saturday) 6:30, 8:00, 9:30, 11:00 AM & 12:30 PM Monday through Friday 6:30 and 8:30 AM Saturday 8:30 AM Holy Days of Obligation Vigil: 5:30 PM 6:30, 8:30, 10:30 AM 5:30 & 7:00 PM Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time February 8, 2015 FOCUS: Through the Church, Jesus’ healing power is really present to the world. Although it is difficult to understand the mystery of human sickness and suffering, the Christian faith, through the cross of Christ, brings healing to sickness and meaning to suffering. LITURGY OF THE WORD: In today’s first reading, Job laments his difficult life. In the second reading, Saint Paul tells us that he is simply doing what he must, for it can be no other way for a disciple of Christ. In the Gospel, Jesus shows us both simple and profound acts of compassion as he continues his healing and preaching ministry throughout Galilee. REFLECTION: Job is a figure for the innocent sufferer. When evil people suffer we can reason they are getting their just desserts; but when a good person suffers we struggle to come up with a reason for their pain. Job can find no rationale for what has happened to him. He is a figure for the good and innocent sufferer. He is overwhelmed by his loss, physical pain and mental anguish – but he doesn’t give up on God. So we ask ourselves: i What resources have we discovered to help us during times of trial and suffering? i How have we been able to help others as they go through periods of grief and pain? SPRING BIBLE STUDY Synod of Bishops 2015 Pope Francis has called for an Ordinary Synod of Bishops in October 2015 on the theme, The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and Contemporary World. The clergy and faithful are invited to participate in this consultation. A Preparatory Document has been issued by the Holy See to initiate this consultation along with a series of questions. Archbishop Chaput, in an effort to provide an opportunity for the clergy and faithful of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to engage in this consultation in as wide a manner as possible has authorized the use of this instrument for local participation. This is not a poll or survey on Church teaching. Rather, it represents a unique opportunity for us to reflect and respond thoughtfully on serious challenges to family life and to marriage. The clergy and faithful are asked to read the complete Preparatory Document, or its summary, on the archdiocesan website and then answer any or all of the questions that follow by visiting www.archphila.org. Hard copies will be made available next week at the back of Church. Responses are to be submitted by Monday, March 9 and they will be integrated into a general report by the Archbishop.
