Job 7:1-4, 6-7 2. 1 Corinthians 9:13-19, 22-23 3. Mark 1:29-39 FOCUS: Through the Church, Jesus’ healing power is really present to the world. Although it is difficult to understand the mystery of human sickness and suffering, the Christian faith, through the cross of Christ, brings healing to sickness and meaning to suffering. LITURGY OF THE WORD In today’s first reading, Job laments his difficult life. In the second reading, Saint Paul tells us that he is simply doing what he must , for it can be no other way for a disciple of Christ. In the Gospel, Jesus shows us both simple and profound acts of compassion as he continues his healing and preaching ministry throughout Galilee. Valentine Mass Our Annual Mass for married & engaged couples will be celebrated on Sat. Feb. 21 at 5 PM in the upper church. All couples are invited to renew their vows & promises at that time. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed all day on that Monday as usual, with the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3:00 PM, however, the exposition will extend until 6:00, at which time the Holy Hour will begin. It will consist of special prayers, the recitation of the Rosary with the specific World Meeting intentions. A homily and conclude with Benediction. A Holy Hour for the school children will take place every Monday from 9—10 PM. Please mark your calendars and join us in this special liturgy each month. WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES “As you can imagine, when the World Meeting of Families convenes in September here in Philadelphia, there will be a tremendous media presence. Reporters and journalists from all over the country will be seeking out all segments of the faithful to interview on a variety of subjects, such as, reaction to the Pope’s visit, what they hope to learn from the event, abortion, traditional marriage, etc. The Archdiocese is in need of those who would be willing to volunteer as spokespersons for our faith in dealing with these topics. In order to address this issue, the Archdiocese will be conducting training sessions in February and March for volunteers on interview techniques and how to respond intelligently to questions, therefore projecting the teachings and viewpoints of the Catholic Church. If you feel you would like to represent Saint Monica’s parish in this endeavor, please give your name to Father Kelley as soon as possible.” During the month of February Marconi Older Adult Center, 2433 S. 15th St. hosts “Be Kind to Your Heart Month” with Heart Healthy programs & exercise. These activities will include Enhance Fitness (done at your own pace), Zumba Class, Morning Stretch (light stretching exercise), and Relaxation (reducing stress as you learn to relax). By participating in any of the activities programs you can win gift cards and/or gift baskets. For more info call 215-717-1971. Caringpeoplealliance.org Prayer for the World Meeting of Families Please pray this prayer before all parish Masses and before parish meetings and events. This prayer is not prayed during Mass. God and Father of us all, In Jesus, your Son and our Savior, You have made us your sons and daughters in the family of the Church. May your grace and love Help our families In every part of the world Be united to one another In fidelity to the Gospel. May the example of the Holy Family, With the aid of your Holy Spirit, Guide all families, especially those most troubled, To be homes of communion and prayer And to always seek your truth and live in your love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us! Fast and Abstinence And Other Acts of Penance for Lent 2015 The Bishops of the United States prescribe, as minimal obligation, that all persons who are fourteen years of age and older are bound to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, on all the Fridays of Lent and Good Friday. Further, all persons eighteen years of age and older, up to and including their fifty-ninth birthday, are bound to fast by limiting themselves to a single full meal on Ash Wednesday and on Good Friday, while the other two meals on those days are to be light. All the faithful are encouraged, when possible, to participate at Mass and to receive the Holy Eucharist daily, to celebrate frequently the Sacrament of Penance, to undertake spiritual reading, especially the study of the Sacred Scriptures, and to participate in parish Lenten devotions as well as Lenten education programs. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is especially recommended. All are encouraged to participate in Operation Rice Bowl which has aided countless hungry persons here in the Archdiocese as well as throughout our nation and our world. 155-5 MINISTRY SCHEDULE The Ministry Assignments for Feb. 14th& Feb. 15th are as follows: LECTOR & EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS Sat., Feb. 14 5 PM V.
