Gaydos, the clergy and the faithful of the Diocese of Jefferson City welcome you and hope that your time in our Mother Church may be an opportunity to share our faith and joy in Our Lord Jesus Christ. Our parish was formed in 1959 and was elevated to the title of Cathedral in 1968 and dedicated in 1974. Please enjoy the beauty of this spacious building dedicated to the Glory of God and the memory of Saint Joseph, the Husband of Mary. It was built for the inspiration of all who enter. Free tour booklets are available. All visitors who are not of the Roman Catholic faith are most welcome to join us in prayer and worship, but not to receive Holy Communion. Reception of Holy Communion is a sign of full unity and membership in the Catholic community. Together let us all pray for the unity of all believers. If you desire to become a member of the Roman Catholic Church or to become a member of the Cathedral Parish, please call the parish office at 573-635-7991. How do we continue to inspire our parishioners?” This year, Dynamic Catholic is developing a new Lenten email program titled, "Best Lent Ever." The program is designed to help people rediscover the genius of Catholicism through simple but powerful daily email messages. Best Lent Ever will be led by Matthew Kelly and will offer daily spiritual coaching via email to all parishioners who sign up by Ash Wednesday (February 18). The Best Lent Ever program is free. Sign up online at BestLentEver.com. Be Bold. Be Catholic. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR MARRIAGE Today marks the World Day of Prayer for Marriage. Catholics believe that marriage comes as a gift from the hand of God. The Catholic vision of marriage is rooted in Sacred Scripture and is expressed in the teachings and practices of the Church. As traditional marriage as intended by God is threatened today, please take time to educate yourself on this very important issue. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops offers a variety of resources on their website: www.usccb.org, to help educate persons about this and many other important social issues. The USCCB states the word ‘marriage’ isn’t simply a label that can be attached to different types of relationships. Instead, ‘marriage’ reflects a deep reality-the reality of the unique, fruitful, lifelong union that is only possible between a man and a woman. HOLY ROSARY-Come and join us on Thursday nights at 7:00 p.m. to pray the Most Holy Rosary in the daily Mass Chapel. CENTERING PRAYER will meet next on February 9, at 12:10 p.m. in the Chapel. Please join us. Contemplative Prayer is a powerful way of moving into a deepening experience of divine union. For questions, contact Barbara Poetker at (573) 8932064. PSR is for students grades 1-8 who attend public school and seek instruction in their faith. The next class is February 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Cathedral School. If you have questions about this program contact: Cara Sue Cockerham (573) 291-4889. CONFIRMATION-Our next session is February 22, at 9:15 a.m. in the School Commons, on ‘Holiness is Possible’. For more information, contact Dave Lankford at (573) 635-9454. Our Confirmation is April 23, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Prayer for the Year of Consecrated Life O God, throughout the ages you have called women and men to pursue lives of perfect charity through the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process of inquiry, study, prayer, and sacraments by which adults are baptized or received into the Catholic Church, or receive the sacrament of Confirmation. The next class is Monday, February 9 at 6:15 p.m. at the Catholic Center, and will focus on the Sacraments of Penance and Anointing; Introduction to ‘vocations’. If you are interested or have questions, please call Dan Kempker at (573) 496-5499 or email him at [email protected]. During this Year of Consecrated Life, we give you thanks for these courageous witnesses of Faith and models of inspiration. Their pursuit of holy lives teaches us to make a more perfect offering of ourselves to you. The Cathedral Youth Ministry is working on a retreat for all juniors and seniors in high school to be presented by one of the Benedictine College retreat teams. We have chosen April 25-26. If you have a student you think would be interested, please let Julie Gramlich know at: [email protected]. We are hoping for approximately 20-25 students. All meals and sleeping accommodations will be handled through the Cathedral. Registration forms and fees will be sent out at the first of March. All are welcome to take Pro-Life material that can be found in the Cathedral’s front vestibule, next to the baptistery window. FAMILIES IN NEED PROGRAM Items requested for February 10 delivery: Canned tuna, boxed pasta, canned green beans, brownie mix and napkins. Please place in provided containers at all exits of the Cathedral. Thank you for your continued support! NCYC registration will begin March 1st. This is for all incoming freshman through senior in high school. We need your name and contact information as soon as possible. We will have our first fundraiser at the end of February through March, selling religious jewelry for Confirmation and First Communion gifts. PLEASE email Julie, if you have not already, so you can be a part of this fundraising agenda. BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION Please continue to collect Box Tops and Labels for Education for us! ‘Box Tops’ can be found on many household items you already use and earns money for our school. ‘Labels for Education’ are also found on many products you already use. These labels can be redeemed for items that students use in school. These can be placed in the collection boxes at the Cathedral, or can be sent to school. Look for the symbol on products you purchase at home. Clip the box top and place them in the box at the Cathedral entrance and you will help the school earn supplies. Thank you for your support and participation! CATHEDRAL SCHOOL NEWS St. Joseph Cathedral School is currently accepting applications for the position of assistant principal. This individual will partner with the head principal in areas such as school climate, staff formation, student management, public relations, and other administrative responsibilities. Applicants are to be Catholics in good standing with a strong background in instruction, preferably in the preschool, elementary or junior high levels. Applicants should send inquiries and electronic resumes to Mr. Spencer Allen, principal, at [email protected]. Application deadline is February 15. Inquiries by phone can be made to (573) 635-5024. WILLIAM H. SIMON SCHOLARSHIP The William H. (Bill) Simon Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to Catholic students who are in financial need for the purpose of attending an accredited college or university of the student's choice. The scholarship is $ 1,000 per semester to assist the student in meeting educational needs. It is the intent to award three new scholarships each year; however, the actual number of new awards will be contingent upon the current number of previous recipients that are eligible for renewal. Applications may be picked up at the Parish Office, School Office or the Chancery. The deadline for submission of the application, SAR, and letters of recommendation is March 31, 2015. CALLING ALL WAR VETERANS Do the WWII, Korea and Vietnam heroes in your life know that they have the opportunity to be flown to Washington DC, at no cost to them, so they can see the war memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice? Central Missouri Honor Flight needs your help in finding these veterans for a trip of a lifetime. Applications can be found on our website: www.centralmissourihonorflight.com. The next flight is April 20, but time to express our thanks to these brave men and women is running out. Our nation loses 1,000 WWII veterans a day---that’s 20 a day in Missouri. You can help by identifying WWII veterans and get them signed up. Many are not internet savvy so download an application, take it to them, fill it out and mail it in. Words cannot begin to describe how meaningful this one-day trip is for them. You can only see it in their eyes and hear it in their voices. These great and humble Americans return from a Central Missouri Honor Flight to receive the heroes’ welcome they never received. PARISH NURSE REPORT There were 23 hospital visits, 48 nursing facility visits and 46 phone calls made by the parish nurse in January.
