WHAT’S THE LATERAN BASILICA?
Pope’s Cathedral, the Cathedral of Rome.
This is the MASS FOR DECEASED BISHOPS, PRIESTS AND
DEACONS: This diocesan celebration will be offered this
year on Tuesday, November 18 at Christ the King Church in
Richland at 5:30 p.m. Please join our Bishops, priests, and
deacon community as we remember, pray for and honor the
lives of all our ordained brothers, who have served the people
of the Diocese of Yakima since its inception in 1951.
PARISH ADVISORY COUNCIL: Our Cathedral Parish
Council will meet on Monday, November 17. If you have
concerns to bring before it, contact John Klingele, President
at 457-6085, Robert Wilson, Vice-President at 453-8918 or
one of the members before that date.
Why this Feast? Today, Sunday, November 9th is the Anniversary of the Dedication of this “mother and head of all
Churches of Rome and the world dedicated on December 9,
324 by Pope St. Sylvester I and was the residence of the
Popes until the 14th Century.
What is special about this basilica? The present structure
was commissioned in 1646 and beneath the high altar rests
the remains of a small wooden table on which, according to
custom, St. Peter celebrated Mass.
VETERANS’ DAY: Tuesday, November 11.
As a part of our 100th Anniversary there will be
a special Mass to recognize and honor all from
our parish community and then
who have
served or are serving in the Military Forces of
our country; also to recall, remember, pray for
and honor those from our community who have
died as victims of wars or as veterans since the
foundation of our parish in 1914. Please invite
your family, friends and neighbors to join you
as we honor all those associated with the military services of our nation—Tuesday, November 11—8:00 a.m.—Cathedral. The early hour
is chosen so as not to interfere with the usual
Yakima Veterans’ Day Parade!!
MASS FOR ALL THE DECEASED OF OUR PARISH
COMMUNITY OF ST. PAUL CATHEDRAL: We owe
so much to so many who have made our Cathedral Parish of
St. Paul, the Apostle, such a vibrant and alive Community of
Faith, especially all our parish members; laity, Religious and
our ordained bishops and priests. As part of our 100th Anniversary all are invited to gather, remember and celebrate the
lives of countless people who have died since March 19,
1914, especially those whom God has called to Himself this
past year. It is only fitting that during this month of the Holy
Souls, we pause to honor them. And so, a special Memorial
Mass of Remembrance will be offered on Thursday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m.
THANKSGIVING DAY AND DINNER: It is only 2 1/2
weeks until our nation pauses to give thanks to God for our
continuing bounty and blessings. As is our custom, we shall
celebrate a special MASS OF THANKSGIVING on that day,
Thursday, November 27th at 9:00 a.m. in the Cathedral (no
8:00 a.m. Mass). That same afternoon under the leadership
and direction of our own Will Chichenoff and his family and
crew, we will serve in our Cathedral Center (3rd floor of our
school) a sumptuous dinner with all the fixings, for our parishioners, especially those with no extended family in the
area and for their friends, the dinner is “on your parish,” but
we need to know of your plans to join us so that adequate
preparations can be made for the “feeding of the hungry multitude.” So, please call the parish office (sooner rather than
later) to make a reservation and let us know you are coming.
Also, if you wish to help to prepare, serve and/or assist in the
clean-up, please contact Will Chichenoff at 833-8677.
OUT OF TOWN: Father Rogelio (Roy) is out of town visiting his family (and father, who is unwell) in Mexico until
Friday, November 21st. Please hold all calls until his return “HAVEN” HAPPENINGS: (For young adults). Praise
