for a School Choice Program.
Please inform the parents to deliver the information to the School Choice Programs Office.
Documentation required for different School Choice Programs is listed in the brochure.
Documentation varies for different types of applicants.
Applicant types are DeKalb, out of district, private and home school students.
Eligibility to Apply for School Choice Programs
All DeKalb, private and home school students who will enroll in prekindergaren through
twelfth grades for the 2015 - 2016 school year, who live in the DeKalb County School District, and
are eligible to apply for enrollment in the designated School Choice Programs.
Eligible Lottery Participants
An eligible lottery participant is defined as a student residing in the DeKalb County School District
with a completed, eligible online application or paper application and all required supporting
documentation on file in the School Choice Programs Office at the DeKalb County School Board of
Education on or before the application deadline.
Mail the Application and the Required Supporting Documentation
Parents may deliver or mail the application and supporting documentation to the School Choice
Programs Office. All mailed applications must be postmarked by February 27, 2015.
Faxed copies of the application and supporting documents may not be accepted.
Schools should not accept any applications or required supporting documentation to apply
for a School Choice Program.

1. When is the 2015-2016 School Choice Open Enrollment? February 2– 27, 2015
2. Which School Choice Programs are offered during the 2014-2015 Open Enrollment? All programs are
offered including Arabia Mountain High School Career Technology Pathway Program/Magnet, Charter,
Coralwood/Hawthorne Partnership, Ronald McNair Discovery Learning Academy, International
Baccalaureate, Magnet, Montessori and Theme.
3. When and where will the 2014-2015 School Choice applications be available? During the respective
open enrollment dates online at http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/about/schoolchoice/index.html
4. Where may I apply? On your personal computer (ONLINE), local library (ONLINE), local school
(ONLINE & PAPER APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE), the School Choice Programs Office at 1701
Mountain Industrial Boulevard, Stone Mountain, Georgia 30083 (ONLINE).
5. Do I need a parent portal account to apply for a School Choice program? Yes. You must have a
parent portal account to apply for any School Choice program.
6. May I apply online? Yes. You may apply at http://eportal.dekalb.k12.ga.us.
7. Can I apply for a School Choice program if my child is a private school or home school student? Yes.
The parent or legal guardian of the child must be a current resident of the DeKalb County School
District at the time of open enrollment and thereafter.
8. Where can I find the eligibility requirements for each School Choice program? All eligibility
requirements are located in the School Choice Brochure located at your local school or at
http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/about/schoolchoice/index.html.
9. Can I mail the application and supporting documentation? Yes. Please mail all correspondence to the
School Choice Programs Office at 1701 Mountain Industrial Boulevard, Stone Mountain, Georgia
30083. All documentation will become the property of the DeKalb County School System and will NOT
be returned to sender.
10. May I apply for more than one School Choice program? Yes. You may apply for any program that your
child is eligible for based on the published eligibility criteria. However, there is a selection limit on each
type of school choice program.
11. How are students selected to participate in a School Choice program? Students are selected by a
random automated lottery selection process.
12. When and where are the School Choice Program lotteries held? The School Choice Program lotteries
are held March, April, May, June, July, August and September 2014. May – September 2014
placements will be conducted as needed.
13. Are late School Choice applications accepted? Yes. However, late applications are not guaranteed
consideration for placement. If additional seats are available after the lottery is held and all selected
students and wait list students are placed, late applicants may be considered. The School Choice
Programs Office will contact parents regarding placement of late applicants. Placement will not be
available after September 30, 2015.
14. How will parents be notified? The School Choice Programs Office will only notify each applicant by US
mail. Student information will not be provided by telephone. If you applied online, you may check the
selection status of your child by returning to the online application and checking the registration status
after 5:00 p.m. on the day of the lottery.
15. When do I need to register at the School Choice school site if selected for a program? Parents must
register at the School Choice school site during the dates listed in the acceptance packet or the seat
will be declined and offered to the next eligible applicant on the waiting list. The specific registration
date will be included in the selected letter.
16. Will transportation be provided for the School Choice programs? The most current DeKalb County
transportation policy will be followed for the School Choice Programs. During the school year, students
will report to selected satellite pickup locations in their region for transportation to all magnet
programs/schools. Transportation is not provided for Regional School Choice Programs, Charter
Programs or Montessori Programs if the student resides outside the attendance area of the school in
which the program is housed. The Department of Transportation will mail bus schedules during the
month of July.
17. When will placement end for the School Choice programs? Vacancies will be filled until September 30,
2015.
