She was inspired to begin a local branch of the service after finding out about its success elsewhere in the UK. She is one of four volunteers for the Keighley and Ilkley district, but is now asking more people to get involved. “It’s such a simple idea, but it’s positive, fun and I’m expecting a lot of demand,” she said. “Lots of people like to bake – though they don’t have to be fantastic at it. We would bake the cake to a particular personalised theme, then have it delivered to the family.” The original UK Free Cakes for Kids project began in Oxford five years ago.
