SASO Meet Schedule February Through August 2015
Updated February 2015
Meet Schedule Notes:
The team meet schedule is subject to change. Various levels of swim meets are available and SASO swimmers and/or practice groups may not attend all meets
on the schedule. Please see your coach if you have any questions about which competitions are appropriate for your child.
The short course and long course seasons culminate with a series of championship swim meets. These team scoring meets are offered for swimmers achieving
qualifying time standards. We expect to have participation and support from all of our team members at these championship meets. With this in mind, the SASO
coaching staff asks that families schedule family trips/vacations after their appropriate championship swim meet.
Per USA-Swimming and SASO team policy, athletes are prohibited from competing in swim meets without a SASO coach in attendance (i.e., swimmers may not
attend meets not listed on the SASO team meet schedule).
Timing:
All parents are required to volunteer as timers for swim meets, plan on a 1- to 2-hour shift for each day of competition. If a parent is not available to volunteer, you
must find an appropriate substitute. Do not sign up your child for a meet if you are not able to fill the required volunteer timer shifts. Parents of first-time swim meet
swimmers and families with working swim meet official are excluded.
Officials:
All USA Swimming teams are required to provide trained and certified stroke and turn officials at USA Swimming meets. The number of swimmers entered in a
meet determines the number of officials required by each team. Typically each team is responsible for 1 official for every 10 swimmers. SASO has officials, but we
are always looking for new volunteers. It is common and reasonable for officials to only work at meets their children participate in. With this in mind, as their
children progress in age and ability, we may experience a lack of officials at some beginning and intermediate level competitions. All teams not providing enough
officials for a specific meet will not receive athlete ribbons and awards. Please let us know if you have questions or are interested in becoming an official.
Team Competition Uniform:
SASO swimmers may only wear one of the following specific swim suits at USA swimming meets: (including sanctioned “mini-meets”)
1. Speedo Endurance—Navy
2. Speedo Aquablade—Navy
Make sure you are only purchasing one of the approved suits (specific brand, style, and color). Racing suits should have a snug fit (tighter than practice suits) and
should only be worn at swim meets, not at swim practice.
High performance technical racing suits may only be worn in the following competition criteria:
 Junior Olympics (swimmers ages 13 and older)
 Far Westerns (swimmers ages 13 and older)
 USA Sectionals, Junior Nationals, and above
 Select “Senior” level meets as recommended by the Head Coach
Caps:
SASO team caps are available from the coaches. Each new team member will receive one free team cap upon joining. All swimmers at USA Swimming
competitions are required to wear SASO team swim caps. See your coach to purchase a replacement cap.
Apparel:
Team apparel is available at the “Otter Shop” located on the SASO website. Additionally, competition and special event tees are available seasonally from SASO.
Team apparel including tees, sweats, parkas, and team colors are strongly encouraged at competitions and team events. Proudly wear SASO Navy and Gold!
