The Dinosaurs
Dinosaur Bones
The dinosaurs lived long ago
When life on earth began.
Some were tall,
(stretch hand upwards
to show height)
And some were small,
(crouch down low)
Some liked water,
(make swimming motion)
Some land.
(stomp feet)
Pteranodons had leathery wings,
(flap arms)
Brontosaurs, long necks;
(hands on jaw, palms up as if
stretching neck upwards)
Brontosaurs, long necks;
And the meanest dinosaur of all
was the Tyrannosaurus Rex!
(feet apart, hands clawlike,
scowl and growl)

Have the children make their
own dinosaur skeleton by
gluing pasta noodles onto a
piece of construction paper.
Fun and Games
Playdough Fossils
Make gray playdough by adding
a small amount of black tempera
paint to your regular recipe. Set
the playdough and some plastic
dinosaurs on a table. Let the
children make “fossils” by pressing
the dinosaurs into the playdough
and then carefully removing them.
No Dinos in Our House!
After watching Danny and the
Dinosaur, show a picture of a
Tyrannosaurus Rex and talk about
it’s size. Would it fit into a house?
The room you are in? In the yard?
With masking tape or chalk, mark
out the length of a Tyrannosaurus
Rex (43 feet long). Find out how
many children can lay from
head to toe inside the marks.
Torn Paper Dinosaur
Picture
Supply the children with a piece of
white paper with a dinosaur drawn
on it. Then give them a piece of
colored paper (brown or green will
work). Have them tear the colored
paper into pieces and then glue
the pieces on the white piece of
paper to fill in the dinosaur shape.
Search for Dinosaurs
Place small plastic dinosaurs
in the sand table or sand box.
Hide them from view. Have
the children look for them.
Dinosaur Hide
and Seek #2
Play the game the same as hide
and seek #1, except hide the
dinosaur. Then tell the children
individually whether they are
“hot” or “cold” to the relation of
the dinosaur. Allow the other
children to have a chance to hide
the dinosaur, and tell children
whether they are “hot” or “cold.”
It may be a good idea to discuss
the meaning of hot and cold
before you play this game.

Dinosaur Hide
and Seek #1
Have all the children cover or
close their eyes while you “hide” a
dinosaur in the room. (It should
be placed in plain view.) Tell the
children to find the dinosaur, but
not to touch it. Once they spot
it, they should sit back down in
their spot. The first one to sit down
will get to hide the dinosaur.
