Lacing Cards
Children love lacing cards. You have the
option of printing up color or b & w cards to
color yourself.
You can print up the color lacing cards, cut
out on the dotted line, laminate, and punch
holes around the card using a hole punch.
Give the children lacing strings, yarn or
shoe laces to lace the cards.
The b & w set can also be used as an
additional craft for the children. Give each
child one of the cards, have them color and
cut out. Have an adult punch holes, and
they can lace using the above options of
string.
Lacing strings can be purchased though

On this Earth, on this Earth.

Donut Song
(Tune: Turkey in the Straw)
Oh I walked around the corner
And I walked around the block
And I walked right into a donut shop.
And I picked up a donut and I wiped off the
grease,
And I handed the lady a five-cent piece.
Well she looked at the nickle
And she looked at me,
And she said, "Hey kid can't you plainly see?
There's a hole in the nickel,
There's a hole right through!"
And I said, "There's a hole in my donut too!
Thanks for the donut! Good day!"

Dinosaur
For this activity you will need a realistic picture
of a dinosaur, chart paper, and a marker. Show
children the picture. Say: "Pretend this dinosaur
just walked into the room. Show me what you
would do”. Ask children to describe how they
would feel. Say: "Let's write a story about the
day the dinosaur came to our class." Have
children dictate sentences for the story and
record them on chart paper. Then read the
story back to the children, tracking the words as
you do so. Read the story a second time,
asking children to point out words that begin
the letter D.
Display the story where children can "read" it
on their own. Suggest that interested students
illustrate it.

children) from different colors of construction
paper. Cut each into two puzzle pieces.
Mark one piece with an upper case D and the
other with a lower-case D.
Give each of the children a dough-nut half and
have them note the colors and the letters.
Have the children them walk around to find the
matching halves of their doughnuts.
Have the other halves on the floor or on the
board for the students to match.

Dogs
Have a picture of a large dog: discuss things
dogs do, parts of a dog, what dogs eat, etc.
Make construction paper headbands and have
the children design the ears they wish to have.
Add pictures of dogs to the band. Get a hold of
a local kennel club and see if they have "trade"
magazines they will be discarding.

walk. As they walk, instead of quacking they
make the D sound.

Print the letter D on an index card and attach the
card to the box. Let the children take turns
drawing D's in the dirt with their fingers.
Dot D's
Cut large letter D shapes out of heavy paper. Let
the children decorate their letters by attaching
different colored self-stick dots.
Dragon Puppets
Make dragon puppets out of brown lunch sacks.
Have children cut out ovals and glue all over the
bag. Next they can add eyes, a mouth (with
teeth) and horns! Put these in your dramatic play
area and let your children pretend to be dragons.

Box Dragon
Make a Chinese New Year dragon from boxes.
Take a cardboard box and cover it with red paper
(to make the head). Next cover a smaller box to
make a snout. Attach to the small box to the
larger one and add eyes (small paper plates),
mouth (complete with teeth, and red streamer
flames). Tape the head to the floor. If you want to
be real creative you can put a tail coming out of
another part of the floor (like the dragon is
coming through the floor)
