We welcome Maryknoll representative Deacon Paul Bork who will speak
at the Masses this weekend. Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers minister in 26
countries in Asia, Central and South America, and Africa.
Maryknoll s task is to share God s Word throughout the world,
especially to the Least of our brothers and sisters. Maryknollers share the
Gospel, not in word alone, but in practical and concrete actions
by feeding
the hungry, clothing the naked, giving shelter to the homeless, comforting the
oppressed.

VI Sunday in Ordinary Time
Jesus continues to reach out and heal his
people today first and foremost through the
sacraments. It is especially important in our time
that we all to recognize Jesus´ personal touch in
the seven forms that disguise his action to merely human eyes.
An enlightened faith must lead us to experience it as a
contact as vital and transforming as his encounter with the leper
or with the woman who had a hemorrhage (Luke 8:43-48). Would
our approach to Communion, or to the sacrament of
Reconciliation, not be very different if we thought of it above all
as a very personal encounter with the One who loves us more than
any other?
Lent Begins on Ash Wednesday
In the Roman Catholic Church, Ash
Wednesday is the first day of Lent, the
season of preparation for the resurrection of
Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday. While Ash
Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation, all Roman Catholics
are encouraged to attend Mass on this day in order to mark the
beginning of the Lenten season. The distribution of ashes reminds
us of our own mortality and calls us to repentance.
The Church emphasizes the penitential nature of Ash
Wednesday by calling us to fast and abstain from meat. This
fasting and abstinence is not simply a form of penance, however;
it is also a call for us to take stock of our spiritual lives. Please
check the Mass schedule for the times for the Masses.
Lenten Regulations!
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of both fast and
abstinence. Fasting, or eating less, obliges those between the
ages of 18 and 59.
All Friday of Lent are days of abstinence from meat. This
rule applies to all who are 14 years of age or older.
The entire season of Lent should be observed in a spirit of
prayer and penance. Spending extra time in prayer or bible
study, attending daily Mass, voluntary sacrifice and selfdenial, combined with works of charity and service to others,
are all excellent ways to obey the Lord's command to do
penance and to prepare for the joyful celebration of Easter.
All Catholics who have reached the age of reason must
confess their serious sins in the Sacrament of Penance at least
once a year. They must also receive Holy Communion at
least once each year during the Easter season.
Stations of the Cross
During Lent we will pray Station of the Cross every Friday,
immediately after the 6:00 p.m. Mass. Stations of the Cross will
be prayed in English language: February 20 and March 6 and 20,
in Polish language: February 27 and March 13 and 27.
Sacrament of the Holy Anointing
During next Saturday and Sunday Masses, February 2122, we will anoint the sick, the elderly and anyone who wishes to
receive this sacrament. We pray that those who are sick may be
healed, and we thank God for those who minister to the sick and
show God s love.

The winter months are cold and struggling to keep warm and
to feed the family is difficult. Please help us stock the Sr. Regis
Food Cupboard. Each week bring in one can, box or bag of food.
Each week we will highlight a high needs item but ALL foods
will be accepted and appreciated by those in need.

Polish Heritage Society of Rochester
Literary Competition 2015
The Polish Heritage Society of Rochester, with the assistance of the American Council for Polish Culture is sponsoring a
writing competition for Rochester area high school students in
grades nine through twelve. For this year s competition, students
should submit an essay of six hundred words or more addressing
factors which influenced people to leave Poland and emigrate to
the United States. In addition to a first prize award of $1000,
prizes will also be awarded to the best essay from each of the
other three grade level. Deadline for submission is March 15,
2015. Students do not have to be of Polish descent to enter.

Operation Rice Bowl 2015
Operation Rice Bowl embraces the themes of Lent and
invites participants to pray with their families and faith communities, fast in solidarity with those who are hungry, learn about our
brothers and sisters around the world, and give sacrificial contributions to the poor. Our St. Stanislaus Parish is participating in
the Operation Rice Bowl this Lent, and would appreciate for all
the parishioners to make Catholic Relief Services Operation Rice
Bowl a part of their Lenten journey. You can find the Operation
Rice Bowl containers for your donations by the church entryways.
They will be collected on Divine Mercy Weekend.
