AUCC Senior Club Report – Saturday 14th February
Both the Premier Reserves and Senior A1`s kept their two-day title aspirations
alive when they recorded outright victories on Saturday afternoon.
AUCC Premier Reserves v East Coast Bays – Colin Maiden Park `E` Block
AUCC`s Premier Reserves side kept their two-day Championship aspirations
alive with an emphatic outright victory over East Coast Bays on CMP`s `E` Block.
Varsity began day two needing just three runs to secure first innings points and
when that target was reached skipper Nigel Fletcher had little hesitation in
declaring and sending the visitors out to bat for a second time.
After being dismissed for just 145 in their first innings Bays didn’t fare any
better in their second dig lasting just 39 overs before they were back in the
pavilion with just 123 on the board. After scoring 35 not out with the bat Rishi
Umasuthan bagged five wickets for Varsity while new ball bowlers Adrian Fong
and Pierce Fletcher claimed two each.
Umasuthan was then at it again with bat in hand scoring 52 not out from just 61
balls while James Partridge struck 66 from 84 deliveries as Varsity cruised to a
nine wicket win inside 25 overs.
The result means that Fletcher`s team are now just 16 points behind leaders
Cornwall with three rounds of matches remaining in the season.
East Coast Bays 145 (B Lewis 2/35, T Taliauli 2/40) & 123 (R Umasuthan
5/20) lost to AUCC Premier Reserves 149/3 dec (B Lewis 97, R Umasuthan
35no) & 125/1 (J Partridge 66no, R Umasuthan 52no) outright by nine
wickets.
AUCC Senior A1 v Waitakere City – Colin Maiden Park `A` Block
The AUCC Senior A1`s closed the gap between themselves and two-day
competition leaders Birkenhead City to less than six points with an outright
victory over Waitakere City on CMP`s `A` Block.
Varsity began day two on 50/1 in reply to City`s first innings total of 176 and
despite losing Vijay Chauhan early on the second morning our boys had little
trouble overtaking their target as Jordan Service (48) and Jonty Dineen (39)
showed form.
Skipper Jamie Grupen-Hall and Nick Wanden were at the crease when the target
was reached and the duo then set about dispatching the next four overs for no
fewer than 75 runs as Wanden struck 10 sixes before he was dismissed for 85
while Grupen-Hall finished on 27 not out.
At this stage Varsity declared their innings and it took just 40 overs for our boys
to skittle the visitors for a second time. Shameera Wijisooriya did the main
damage claiming 3/42 while Caleb Jasmat bagged two wickets to help dismiss
City for just 113.
This left the small matter of 41 runs for victory and it took the Blue Cobras just
4.1 overs to reach the target as newcomer Antonie Clement struck a quick fire 33
not out.
Waitakere City 176 (V Chauhan 4/51, C Kelly 2/35) & 113 (S Wijisooriya 3/42,
C Jasmat 2/32) lost to AUCC Senior A1s 251/6 dec (N Wanden 85, J Service 48,
J Dineen 39, J Grupen-Hall 27no, V Chauhan 26) & 41/1 (A Clement 33no)
outright by nine wickets.
AUCC Senior B3 v Grafton United – Colin Maiden Park `D` Block
While the Premier Reserves and Senior A1s recorded outright victories on
Saturday afternoon the Senior B3s were on the receiving end of an outright
result at the hands of league leaders Grafton United on CMP`s `D` Block.
Varsity posted a solid first innings total of 185 on day one but the visitors had
little trouble overtaking that target and going on to amass a mammoth 360 in
just 54 overs. While most of the Varsity attack was made to toil Tynan Burkhardt
did emerge in credit claiming his maiden five wicket haul for the club.
Unfortunately the University second innings didn’t quite go to plan and our boys
were dismissed for just 118.
AUCC Senior B3s 185 (D Lewy 81) & 113 (D White 72no) lost to Grafton
United 360 (T Burkhardt 5/47, D Lewy 2/171) outright by an innings and 62
runs.
