1 10 Steps to Being Happy by Pope Francis. Dear OLG Families, A month ago, I had the privilege of meeting Cardinal Reinhard Marx, Archbishop of Munich. Cardinal Marx is one of the Council of Cardinal Advisers, a group of nine who were appointed by Pope Francis to serve as his advisers. While driving the Cardinal to the San Jose airport, I asked him what is it about Pope Francis that h as so very many people in the world, from all walks of life, races and religions, so excited and inspired? Cardinal Marx shared that Pope Francis is simply free. The only one he answers to is Jesus. As we enter the sacred season of Lent, let us strive to be as our Pope – free, answering only to our Lord. Today, we have sent home a pamphlet entitled, 10 Steps to Being Happy, by Pope Francis. Perhaps your Lenten promise could be spending time pursuing these 10 steps. 1. "Live and let live." 2. "Be giving of yourself to others." 3. "Proceed calmly" in life. 4. Have "a healthy sense of leisure." 5. "Sundays should be holidays." Spend Sundays with family and friends. 6. "Create dignified jobs for young people." 7. "Respect and take care of nature." 8. "Stop being negative." 9. "Respect others' beliefs." 10. "Work for peace." Thank you to a ll our Crab Feed Chairpersons for all the hard work that has gone into ensuring that this coming Saturday will be a tremendous success! Thank you to all our families who are bringing friends and will help to make the auction an exciting experience. Remember to check out the Crab Feed Helpful Hints before coming! May our Lord and Savior, fill you and your families with much peace during Lent. S. Janice Therese, O.P. Going on Now -‐-‐-‐-‐ Collecting Koins for Kids in all classrooms. Experienced Crab Feed aficionados know to bring:
♦ Melted butter - melt the butter at home and bring it in a Thermos along with a small
heavy-based dipping cup in which to pour it. Regular butter is good, but a bit heavy after
eating crab for a few hours. You may want to bring a lighter butter or margarine.
♦ Lemon wedges
♦ Eating Tools – Seafood fork or crab cracker to pick the crab
feed lovers
♦ Cleaning Tools – while some people bring little packets of hand wipes, crab
have been known to wrap a damp towel inside a dry towel and then use both to clean
their hands more efficiently. Bring a big absorbent kitchen towel to wrap around your
neck.
♦ Favorite sauces such as Tabasco sauce, soy sauce, sesame seed oil, and seafood
sauces in small containers.
Some sauce ideas:
Aunt Patsy’s Crab Dressing - 1 cup mayonnaise; ½ cup ketchup; 1 teaspoon Worcestershire
sauce. Directions: In a mixing bowl, combine the ingredients until well blended.
A Thai-style Dipping Sauce – ½ cup rice vinegar and ½ cup sugar, heated until the sugar
dissolves, then add a couple of cloves of garlic smashed to a paste with ¼ tsp. salt and 1 ½ tsp
dried red pepper flakes. Make ahead and serve at room temperature.
A Korean-style Dipping Sauce – 5 tablespoons soy sauce, 5 tablespoons sake or dry sherry,
2 tablespoons sugar, 2 scallions minced, 2 cloves garlic minced, 2 tablespoons toasted sesame
seeds or sesame oil. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
Joe’s Stone Crab Mustard Sauce – 1 cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons half & half, 4 tsp. dry
mustard, 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce, 1 tsp. A-1 Steak Sauce, Kosher salt and freshly ground
black pepper, to taste. Directions: Whisk mayonnaise, half & half, mustard, Worcestershire and
A-1 sauce in a bowl until smooth. Season with salt and pepper and chill.
