CPC Syllabus and process changes

NOTICE TO CENTRES
FAO: Tutors/Trainers of CPC, Centre Managers
Date: February 2015
Subject: Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) Level 3
CPC SYLLABUS AND PROCESS CHANGES
In response to a qualifications review, changes in legislation and discussions with stakeholders, we have
made some changes to CPC. Full details are provided below.
1. From the June 2015 series, in response to stakeholder feedback, we are extending the core
questions on the case study papers, R2 and P2, to include the following:
•
R2/ P2 papers will always contain at least one question on C4 (Driving time, rest periods and
working time rules) and one question on E7 (costings).
•
R2/ P2 papers will always contain at least one question from F1 (occupational regulations),
F2 (undertaking rules) and/or F3 (operating documents).
•
R2/ P2 papers will always contain at least one question from G3 (type approval, registration
and technical inspection) or G5 (periodic maintenance) or G6 (road haulage only - cargo
handling/loading) or H1 (driver qualifications).
2. The front covers of the assessment material for all CPC qualifications have been redesigned and
these will be implemented from March 2015. Please advise candidates that this does not impact on
the assessment itself, the tasks will still be the same. We have attached an example of the new front
cover so you can familiarise candidates with the new design.
3. We have produced one definitive CPC Syllabus, Student and Tutor Guide and so will be removing
three documents: the Centre Handbook, the Student and Tutor Guide and the Syllabus. We have
highlighted in red all areas which have changed in the Guide. As well as introducing change to
ensure the syllabus is brought up to date we have included a new Appendix entitled “Useful
Documents” which lists documentation we would expect learners to be familiar with before sitting the
R2 and P2 assessments.
4. Following a wide scale review of our processes for the production of all CPC assessment material,
we have decided to change the way we award R1 and P1. Please note, that from June 2015, the
pass mark for R1 and P1, although notionally still at 42, may well change series on series. We will
communicate the pass mark for each series within the Principal Examiner’s Report.
5. Results for both the Multiple Choice and the Case Study papers will be released on the same date
from June 2015. Results for the June 2015 series will be released on 17 July for all assessments
taken in June 2015.
