A
ROLLING
WORLD
PREMIERE
Gamut Theatre Group
was chosen as one of three
theaters in the United
States to premiere a new
play. Women Playing
Hamlet, written by
William Missouri Downs
is directed by four-time
Emmy winner, Patrick
Flick. It is a comedy
about the tragedy
of modern life. Four
women play all the
characters, both male
and female, in this story
about Jessica, an actress
from Minnesota, who has
been cast to play Hamlet.
Downs said, “I wrote
the play after reading
that nearly five hundred
women have played the
role of Hamlet in the last
two hundred and fifty
years. I was intrigued as
to why so many actresses
have been drawn to this
part in particular and
not, say, to King Lear or
Richard III.”
FRIDAY MARCH 13
Opening Night Discussion
Following the opening
night performance,
Gamut Theatre
will host a talk-back
session featuring the
Director, Patrick Flick,
Playwright, William
Missouri Downs, and
Executive Director
of the National New
Play Network, Nan
Barnett. Audience
members are invited
to engage the panel on
questions concerning
the new production,
direction choices, and
overall scope of a
Rolling World Premiere.
Educators may find this
discussion especially
interesting.
