February is American Heart Month. Of course, we also celebrate Valentine’s Day
this month, and heart-shaped symbols of love will be hung from every window and
door. It is only fitting, then, that the month of February be dedicated to heart health
– more specifically, the prevention of cardiovascular disease.
Cardiovascular disease, which includes heart disease, stroke and high blood pressure,
kills more people in the United States than any other disease. But the good news is
that, in many cases, death can be prevented by controlling the risk factors – which
include diet, physical activity, tobacco use, obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and Diabetes.
Controlling the risk factors of cardiovascular disease comes down to making good
decisions, and the process can seem overwhelming to someone who is just beginning. It is important to remember that a journey of a thousand miles begins with just
one step – and that every step you take makes you heart healthier!
Here are a few things you should do:

Ways to keep your heart healthy
BIRTHDAYS
Midge Seaman 2-8
Chuck Cooper 2-8
Clara Farquharson 2-10
Betty Giffin 2-13
Wilma Fox 2-15
Tiffany Dunaway, RN 2-24
ANNIVERSARIES
Chuck & Betty Kline 70th on
February 5th
Get a checkup at least once per year, even if you feel healthy.
Monitor your blood pressure. You can check it at any pharmacy or at a doctor’s
office.
Have your cholesterol checked at least every 5 years. Eat healthy. Adults
should have at
least five servings of fresh
fruit and vegetables
every day. Eat high fiber foods, and
avoid cholesterol and
saturated fat.
Exercise regularly.
Take the stairs
instead of the elevator,
park far from
the entrance when out
shopping so that you
have to walk farther etc…
If you smoke, quit. Cigarette
smoking greatly increases your
risk for cardiovascular
disease.
Remember – there are many things you can do to take control of your heart health.
If you have questions about anything, ask your doctor. Take charge and be healthy
in 2015, your heart will thank you!
NOTE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
February is the start of a new month and I am so
proud that I am the new Executive Director of
Primrose Retirement Community. I do want to
assure all of our current residents and future residents that life at Primrose will not change. Everything that everyone loves will absolutely continue.
I have worked diligently for our Primrose family from the time it was
still a dirt hill, and I am absolutely committed to ensuring the happiness and will being of every resident.
As we work toward the warmer months, I can’t wait to blow the dust
off of my smoker and prepare some top notch ribs that everyone
enjoys so much. I have even promised some of you that I will take a
shot at preparing brisket.
In February we would like to do something special for all of our residents for Valentine’s Day. We will be preparing a wonderful Prime
Rib meal or choice of mouth watering fish. It will be an elegant meal
served with the option of wine and is sure to be a quite a treat.
RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT
Primrose would like for
you to meet Ilona
Maguire.
Ilona was born and
raised in Casper, Wyoming. She worked for
Farmers Union Insurance Company as a file clerk
for the last 7 years. Ilona likes to swim and watch
movies and play cards. While living in Casper she
was on a bowling league and also a Bridge league.
Ilona still has a mother living in Casper, Wyoming
and she also has two brothers and a sister. You
will find Ilona in just about every activity and she
loves to learn new games.

WYOMING POEM
It’s winter in Wyoming
And the gentle breezes blow
Seventy miles an hour
At twenty five below.
Oh, how I love Wyoming
When the snow is up to your butt.
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut.
Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I’ll hang around.
I could never leave Wyoming
‘cuz I’m frozen to the ground
EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Primrose would like for you
to meet Stephanie Davis,
she is the newest cook to
the dining staff. Stephanie
was in the United States Air
Force for 7 years as a cook.
Stephanie is married to her
husband Scottie who served
20 years in the United
States Air Force and retired,
and they have three sons.
On her free time she likes to read , but she loves to be
gone with her sons out on their sporting events. Before
