Developing Our Parish Action Plan: Our parish has been selected to participate in a national study of vibrant parishes conducted by the Catholic Leadership Institute! Please help us participate by completing a 10-15 minute survey online. Let the Holy Spirit work through you! The survey will be emailed to you by Catholic Parish Study ([email protected]). The survey will only be available from February 17th to March 10th, will ask you to reflect on your own spiritual growth, and enable you to provide feedback on what efforts the parish is doing to help you grow. All responses will be confidential; the parish will only receive information about the community as a whole. A high response rate will give us a clear picture of our parish life. This information will be invaluable to Father Michael our pastor, our Pastoral Council, and various ministries as we develop an action plan to guide our parish into the future. We will receive the results in May/June, at which time we will share what we have learned with the entire parish. If we don’t have an email address for you, please send an email to Laura Powers at [email protected] with your name so we can add you to the list. If you don’t use email - there will be opportunities to complete the survey after daily and Sunday Masses. You can obtain a paper copy by contacting Laura Powers at 978-774-1958. ---------------------------------------------------------------Living Lent: Each Lent we are called to make some physical sacrifices so we can be concretely reminded of the sacrifices that Christ made for us, and our need to improve in our awareness and love for God and neighbor. As a parish we are asked to make some common sacrifices. They are days of Abstinence and Fasting. Abstinence: On days of abstinence, meat may not be used at all. Catholics over 14 years of age are bound to the obligation of abstinence. Abstinence is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and on all Fridays of Lent. Fasting: Catholics over 18 and up to the beginning of their 60th year – and who are in good health - are bound to the obligation of fasting. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are the two days of required fasting. On these days, only one full meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. In addition to these sacrifices we make together, each of us is to find something else to give up during Lent, something that will challenge us to love and forgive as Christ loves and forgives us.
