GlenLakes Golf Club in Foley
has opened a FootGolf course,
the first of its kind in South
Baldwin County. One of the
fastest growing new sports in
the world, FootGolf is expected
to attract more youth, young
adults and families to the GlenLakes, located 3 miles east of
Lamberts and a half mile east of
the Foley Beach Express on
Country Road 20 in Foley.
FootGolf has similar rules as
golf, only participants kick a
soccer ball around the golf
course. The holes are shorter,
and FootGolf may have two or
three holes on one golf hole.
The players kick a ball into a
larger round hole that is placed
on either side of the fairway in
the rough. No soccer cleats or
spiked golf shoes allowed. Size 4
and 5 soccer balls are used, and
soccer balls are available to rent
at the clubhouse. FootGolf uses
minimal equipment, has lower
costs, and has faster rounds. It’s
a great way to introduce youth and others - to the beauty of a
golf course and possibly get
them to take up the traditional
game.
"We are very excited about
FootGolf coming to our area and
thankful that GlenLakes has
taken the initiative to build out
the course. Our team is looking
forward to hosting our first
FootGolf event in the near future," said John Guidroz, owner
of SnapSoccer.com.
GlenLakes is also open to the
public and features 27 holes of
unforgettable golf. - The 18 hole,
links-style, Vista Dunes course
and the 9 hole resort-style
Lakes layout. For more info, call

A married couple went to the
hospital to have their baby delivered. Upon their arrival, the
doctor said he had invented a
new machine that would transfer a portion of the mother’s
pain to the baby's father. He
asked if they were willing to try
it out. they were both very
much in favor of it.
The doctor set the pain transfer to 10%, for starters, explaining that even 10% was probably
more pain the father had ever
experienced before. However, as
the labor progressed, the husband felt fine and asked the
doctor to go ahead and "kick it
up a notch."
The doctor then adjusted the
machine to 20% pain transfer.
The husband was still feeling
fine. The doctor checked the
husband’s blood pressure and
was amazed at how well he was
doing at this point, they decided
to try for 50%. the husband continued to feel quite well.
Since the pain transfer was
obviously helping out the wife
considerably, the husband encouraged the doctor to transfer
all the pain to him. The wife delivered a healthy baby boy with
virtually no pain. She and her
husband were ecstatic.

At his Orange Beach supper club, Wayne Perdew “showed them how it’s done”
By Fran Thompson
At one point, maybe 10 years
ago, during an Orange Beach
Lions Club fundraising dance,
guest of honor Wayne Perdew
teased the SRO crowd that if he
was a little younger he’d reopen Shirley & Wayne’s Supper
Club and “show them how it’s
done.”
The 220 patrons in attendance,
most of them local and most of
them on the dance floor, roared
in approval.
Wayne Perdew, who died on
Feb. 4, definitely showed one

memories
for thousands of former customers.
“I hired the best musicians,
and paid them to play five
nights a week even in the offseason,’’ Wayne said during a
break at that dance. “And they
knew they had a job as long as
they played what my customers
wanted to hear. When anyone
quit, there were 10 people lined
up wanting the job.’’
He was a U.S. Army Vet and
the youngest of 10 siblings. A
father, grandfather, and great
grandfather, Wayne was already
playing square dances in the
Cumberland Mountains of his
native Maryland by the time he
was 14. From then on, he was
never far from his fiddle Sometimes playing in the
speakeasys and road houses
down in Baltimore on Saturday
night and encoring at a revival
back in Flintstone the following
morning.
Already a seasoned professional, he earned a gig playing
guitar and fiddle in Red Foley’s
Band while still in his early
20’s. The job included weekly
shows on NBC's Ozark Jubilee
from 1956-61.
Wayne’s love for a Witomka
girl led the man who would
forge an institution on Pleasure Isle to the Gulf of Mexico. In
the early 1970’s, Perdew met
and married Shirley in Ohio. A
trip to see Shirley’s mother in
Foley ended up being more than
a vacation.
“We wanted to start a new life
anyway. But as soon as I found
Gulf Shores, I said, “this is it,’’
Perdew said in a 2001 interview. “I knew this was an undiscovered treasure that would
soon be discovered. We decided
then to move here and get into
business.’’
“We met in the Akron area and
just fell in love,’’ Shirley said. “I
wanted to come back home. We
got sand in our shoes when we
came to see mom and went back
and packed up. There were very
few places here back then.’’
Perdew teamed with his
brother-in-law, Jerry Boddie, to
buy the Beachcomber and open
up Jerry & Wayne’s on East
Blvd. in Gulf Shores in 1975.
“We were very fortunate in
that between people I met and
curiosity seekers, we filled the
place on the first night,’’ Wayne
said. “I hired a couple of good
musicians. Shirley ran the dining room and my brother-in-law
ran the bar.’’
Jane Woolwine was such a regular at Jerry & Wayne’s that
she even tried to eat there the
evening police were evacuating
Pleasure Island in anticipation
of Hurricane Freddy back in
September of 1979.
“I walked in and Wayne and
Don Graves (owner of The
Shrimp Boat) were the only two
people in there,’’ Woolwine said.
“They asked what I was doing
there with a hurricane coming.
I just wanted to eat dinner. I
didn’t think it would affect me.
But the police came and escorted me off the island. The
men said they were getting out
of there, too.’’
The partners rebuilt Jerry &
Wayne’s after hurricane Frederic, but Jerry wanted to go
back into the pharmacy business. So they sold the building
that eventually did business as
the original Nolan’s.
For a good while after that,
Wayne took his act to the Holiday Inn across the street. He
bought a drum machine, played
some piano and fiddle and sang
from a seemingly endless repertoire. Of course, the crowds
grew exponentially, and Shirley
was soon asked to manage the
place.
The late Ray Dempsey talked
the couple into buying the parcel of land in Orange Beach
where they would build Shirley
& Wayne’s.
A construction supervisor in
Ohio, Wayne drew the club’s
original plans on a napkin. With
a sunken bar that included
shelves underneath for women’s
purses, a stage in the center of
the room, a huge dance floor
and tiered seating, the room
was built with music in mind.
Perdew dug Mariner Lakes for
fill dirt.
Just as at Jerry & Wayne’s,
Shirley & Wayne’s was packed
on opening night and became a
Pleasure Island institution over
the next 15 years.
“What really made the place
special was that a woman could
go in there by herself and know
she would be safe. It was just
that kind of place. I don’t think
there is a woman who ever went
in there that wouldn’t say the
same thing,’’ Woolwine said.
“Shirley and the staff watched
out for you. It became the kind
of place where you knew everybody there by name.’’
“We absolutely watched out for
our ladies,’’ Shirley said. “We
were a safe place for women to
go and not feel out of place.’’
“In those days you had girls
groups and golfing groups and
everybody just wanted to have a
good time,’’ Woolwine added.
“There was always somebody to
dance with. It was just a special
time in a special place. There

Shirley & Wayne’s Supper Club helped give Pleasure Island its identity
won’t ever be another place like it. Every
time I think about it, I just smile.’’
Local jeweler and South Baldwin native Glen Manning living up the street
at the time and was one of the early regulars.
“I was just out of college and living
right down the road,’’ he said. “Gulf
Shores was built up some. But there
wasn’t really a whole lot going on in Orange Beach back then. It was just a fun
place to go to eat and dance. There was a
whole group of us who used to hang out
there.’’
Woolwine said Wayne and her late husband, Bill Woolwine, were great friends
and golfing buddies. They were often
joined on the course by Graves, Craft
Farms developer R.C. Craft, Mark Echols
and Mark Gallups.
And if there was one other thing Wayne
loved besides
his wife and
his music, it
was golf.

special relationship,’’
Shirley said.
“They would go out and play golf and
then go into that lounge and sit and talk
and argue politics and have a grand
time. R.C. used to tell him, ‘Perdew, you
read too many newspapers.’ That was
such a wonderful part of our lives.’’
Woolwine said within a week after
Wayne passed away she happened to
meet a childhood friend of his from Ohio
while enjoying the Cork Room’s $2 wine
night with friends.
“She said Wayne was always arranging
plays for the other kids when he was
young. So I guess he was always meant
to be an entertainer,’’ Woolwine said.
“I remembered he used to sing a song
called “Just a Bowl of Butterbeans.’’ So
the next day I went out and bought some
and had a little bowl of butterbeans and
a piece of cornbread and just sat down
and smiled thinking about that song.
Then I’d think of something else about
Wayne and smile again.’’
Woolwine laughed while relating how
club regular John Wilson, who always
wore suspenders, would bring saw dust
to pour around the floor before filling his
dance card every night.
“Everybody around this town has memories like that about Shirley & Wayne’s,’’
she said. “A lot of kids learned to dance
at that place.’’
And as kids often do, the children innately knew they were dancing to great
music. With a name like The All-Star
Band, Wayne’s hand picked players had
much to live up to. They always delivered.
As famous for its eclectic sets as its musicianship, the band would often follow
an Eddie Arnold or Tony Bennett ballad
with Rocky Mountain Breakdown or
New York - New York.
The All-Star Band, usually a five piece
ensemble, welcomed guests that included Ernest Tubb, Nat Stuckey, Faran
Young, Jeannie Pruitt, Al Hirt and Pete
Fountain.
Saxophonist Jim Andrews, keyboard
master John Brust, base player Jerry
Anderson and Bryan Wheeler, the man
who gave the All-Star band its beat, comprised The All-Star Band in its later
years.
Brust met Wayne in 1988 when he
came down from Birmingham on a cold
February night to audition for the AllStar Band. A bass player at the time,
Brust got up and sang a Gatlin Brothers
song to a sparse crowd after downing
one of the Supper Club’s famous steak
dinners.
“After I finished, Wayne got up and
said, ‘First thing is you’ve got the job.
Second thing is, if you sing any better
than that, you’re fired.’’’
“I played bass for awhile and then migrated towards piano when our blind
piano player, Bennie Kennerson, went
back to Nashville,’’ Brust said.
Brust recruited his Birmingham friend
Anderson to take over for him on bass.
Andrews and drummer Freddy Harris
joined the band soon thereafter. Wheeler
took over on skins a couple years later.
“BW was the best,’’ Brust said. “I guarantee you if you wanted someone to set a
beat, he was the man. Once he set the
beat, you were in the pocket.’’
Shirley & Wayne’s was a place to celebrate anniversaries, weddings, birthdays
and other special events. Seniors sat
next to tables with kids and grandkids.
“Wayne could play just about every instrument on the stage, which should tell
you right there he knew what he was
doing,’’ Brust said. “Plus, he had such an
incredible memory for lyrics. It was an
incredible place. There was always something happening. We had people from all
over the world who used to come in.
Some people bought condos across the
street just to be close to Shirley &
Wayne’s.
“One of the funniest stories I remember was one night when we were packed.
I went up to a table of 14 really good
looking women who were having a really
good time. I asked the woman at the
head of the table if she was celebrating
her birthday, and she said, no, she was
celebrating her divorce.’’
“What I’ve been thinking about the
past few days is that Wayne was not only
a great entertainer, but a really good guy
and a good teacher to me,’’ Brust said.
“Plus, when he paid you, you could cash
the check and you knew it wouldn’t
bounce.’’
Always an avid golfer, Wayne spent
time on the course, and at the American
Legion and the Elks Club in Foley in his
later years. He would visit the Golden
Living Center in Foley to play music for
its residents and continued to sing even
after finally moving there and later to
the Veteran’s Home in Bay Minette during his final couple of months.
“He was a sweet, sweet man and he had
an innate ability to read an audience,
and leave them spellbound,’’ Shirley
said. “He would hold the audience in the
palm of his hand. He just had that
charisma.
“He was such a big part of this Island
for so many years,’’ she added. “He loved
his music and he loved to put smiles on
people’s faces.’’
And that he did.
A Celebration of Wayne's Life will be
announced at a later date. In lieu of
flowers the family suggest memorials be
made in Wayne’s name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 262 Danny
Thomas Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.

WHAT’S HAPPENING
ANGLERS ANONYMOUS FISHING REPORT
BY CAPTAIN PAUL REDMAN
Migrating cobia will have more on their minds than eating
As spring approaches, dogwoods start to bloom, water temperatures rise closer and closer to magical numbers in the upper
60’s, and Gulf Coast anglers trade in their smoke poles for fishing poles. We get out of our tree stands and climb into our towers, onto our piers, and sometimes even onto a “step ladder” in
search of the most sought after fish of the season - Cobia. We
surf the Internet and read the reports of the migrations from
the south as the ling make their way North and west up towards The Panhandle. We sit back and pray to mother nature
that she won’t push any more northern cold fronts our way,
slowing the migration and causing many more sleepless nights
for coastal anglers.
The Cobia can be very particular when it comes to its feeding
habits during their migration. After all, it’s a mating migration
and they may have more on their minds than eating. When they
are not mating, they are hungry, and its smart to have a variety
of live baits available. The American Eel is the most popular
bait amongst local fisherman due to its hardiness to stay alive
and the crazy, shark-like action it makes when it hits the water.
However, that being said, I’ve seen cobia not even slow down to
look at an eel hundreds of times.
Always, always, always have different baits rigged and ready
to throw. Mullet, pinfish, croakers, squirrel fish and even sea
robins are all great baits. As I mentioned, the cobia are migrating. So, guess what? There may have been 20 eels bombed on
that fish since daylight that morning. Think outside the box
and have something different ready to go. It may make the difference in a hook up.
Don’t forget jigs. They work great for a few reasons: 1) You don’t
have to keep them alive. 2) During Cobia season, we generally
will have many strong windy days. Jigs are heavy and can be
cast good distances. 3) Many times, fish are just out of reach for
casting live bait, so you can use them as a teaser to get the fish
close enough to pitch them a live bait. 4) If you’re lucky enough
to hook up with a big fish, you may be fighting it for quite a
while. Have your crew keep an eye out for more; a jig may be
the only thing to reach that Slob.
Remember, sunny east winds are the best days to fish. It’s almost a free ride for them as they always come from the East to
the West. If you see a fish heading from east to west, chances
are you are chasing a shark. Sharks are plentiful this time of
year due to the massive amount of redfish, skates, tarpon and
other varieties of bait fish around.
Keep in mind, Cobia fishing is incredibly similar to deer hunting. It can be as boring, as disappointing, as heart pounding, as
dangerous, and, most of all, as addictive. Cobia fever is just as
contagious as buck fever.
I once missed three days of school during the spring cobia run.
My illness? HydraCobia Disorder - An Excused Absence.

GSHS VISUAL ARTS STUDENTS RECOGNIZED AT STATE: Gulf Shores
High School Visual Arts student Savannah Litton received a 4th Place Honorable
Mention award from the State Superintendent's annual juried art show. She is the
first student from GSHS to receive any recognition from this competition. This is
the first year that artwork was submitted by GSHS. Savannah and four other GSHS
students, (Luba Goldman, Hayleah Carlo, Alice Lu and Alex Linton) were recognized
by Baldwin County and the State Board of Education for their excellent artwork
and joined seven other students from the county as selections for the State competition. Litton, a junior, was the only student recognized from the county this year
with an award. She submitted her work after being encouraged by her visual arts
educator, Austin Boyd, an illustration composed digitally with Adobe Photoshop software entitled: Sebastian. ALL 12 pieces from Baldwin County schools will be on
display until March, at the State courthouse in Montgomery. Pictured: (Above left)

50 and over Pickleball
Tourney held in G.S.
Southern Raised at
OBUMC on Feb. 28
Southern Raised will perform
their own unique style of bluegrass infused Christian music on
Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. at Orange
Beach United Methodist Church.
Admission is free, but a love offering will be taken. The church
is located at 28751 Canal Rd.
The award winning group of
three sisters and a brother are
sweeping the country with a
sound that has been described as
“the other side of amazing.”
There is a warmth and realness
about them that draws you in.
The band is touring in support
of their 6th album, “Make A Difference.”
Lindsay, Sarah and Emily all
began on the classical violin,
Emily plays the viola as well and
Matthew rounded out the group
on the cello. Growing up in the
Ozark Mountains, a love for
acoustic music quickly emerged.
Even though they cut their teeth
in the classical genre, the two
styles have merged together to
create a distinct auditory sensation revealing an intuitiveness
with each other that is as natural as taking a breath. Their
smooth and refreshing harmonies reach right into the soul.
Winners of the Gulf Shores Parks
and Recreation age 50 and above
Pickleball Tournament held February 12, 2015 at the Gulf Shores
Cultural Center were: Ladies Division First Place - Marilyn

SANDRA JENSEN PRESENTED ISLAND SPIRIT
AWARD: The Coastal Alabama Business Chamber recently
presented its Island Spirit Award for January 2015 to Sandra
Jansen at a special ceremony at Hazel's Family Seafood
Restaurant in Orange Beach. In presenting the award, Island
Spirit Committee Chairman Nora Mandoki praised Jansen's
work ethic professionalism, and ethics. "She always displays
professionalism and tries her best to meet customer needs and
special requests."
The Island Spirit Award is presented monthly by the Coastal
Alabama Business Chamber. It has been a tradition since the
mid-1980's. The award was designed to give special recognition
to individuals who make special contributions to the quality of
life we enjoy in the Coastal Alabama region. Nora Mandoki
chairs the Island Spirit Committee. Anyone can nominate a
special individual for this honor. Nominations can be made online by visiting the Chamber's website at www.mygulfcoastchambercom.
Dean Dillon, a CMA Hall of Fame songwriter who has most recently
been named the 2013 BMI Icon and honored with the 2014 Academy of
Country Music Poet’s Award, will be at Flora-Bama for two incredible
upcoming shows. Dillon will perform on Friday, February 27 and Sunday, March 1 at 7 p.m. in the Main Room. This is a non-smoking listening room event and there is limited seating available. Tickets are $20
and available in the Flora-Bama gift shop or online at florabama.com.
“This acclaimed songwriter is a friend of Flora-Bama and we are excited that he is returning for two more shows,’’ said Joe Gilchrist,
founder of the sponsoring Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival. “Our festival is committed to bringing music and exposure to the
Gulf Coast area all year long and we are very proud to have Dean and
others approach us to get more involved with helping our cause.’’
By the end of high school, Dillon had his mind set on Nashville. It
wasn't long after hitchhiking to Guitar Town in 1973 that he caught the
watchful eye of Shelby Singleton of Sun Records.
After a short recording stint that produced one
record, he was once again walking the streets of a
town he barely knew. As luck would have it, days of
pounding pavement and beating on doors paid off
when songwriter Frank Dycus took an interest in
him. In the years to come it was Dillon-Dycus collaborations that would help launch country music legend
George Strait. Barbara Mandrell also recorded three
of Dillon's songs. In 1979, Jim Ed Brown and Helen
Cornelius had a number one hit with his "Lying Here
in Love with You" a song he co-wrote with fellow
tunesmith Gary Harrison. Between 1979-1983, Dillon charted eight
times, including the 1983 George Jones hit "Tennessee Whiskey."
Dillon paired with Gary Stewart, the King of the Honky Tonkers for
two bleary, good-timing albums. The partnership had little use for the
straight and narrow. After Those Were the Days, Dillon took a five-year
hiatus from recording and concentrated on songwriting. George Strait,
who took five of his songs to the top of the charts between 1981-1988.
Dillon landed a new contract with Capitol, who released two Ricky
Scruggs-produced albums, Slick Nickel and I've Learned to Live. The
latter featured the Tanya Tucker duet "Don't You Even Think About
Leaving." Dillon next signed with Atlantic, where he issued his most
successful album. 1991's Out of Your Ever Lovin' Mind referenced the
hard country of Dillon's heroes, but it also flirted with pop.
Dillon's songwriting career thrived for the rest of the 1990s, as he continued to work with Strait and newer faces like Kenny Chesney, Toby
Keith and Lee Ann Womack. To date Dillon has had over fifty songs
recorded by King George alone.

• Fort McRee: At the eastern end of Perdido Key
is an area once used by the U.S. Army to defend
Pensacola Bay. During the Civil War, the fort was
heavily damaged in a massive artillery exchange
between Confederate forces at McRee and Barrancas, and Union forces at Fort Pickens and onboard the ships Niagara and Richmond in
November 1861. Coastal erosion crumbled the
foundations afterward. The end of the island is
still called Fort McRee, and concrete Coast Artillery batteries were built there in 1899, 1900
and 1942. Battery 233 was the last built and remains today.

TOI COMBINES GOOD TIMES WITH GOOD WORKS: Treasures of the
Isle King Danny Vogelgesang and Queen Laura Elliott announced to loyal Krewe
members that in lieu of the tradition of honoring their reign with gifts, they would
like to be honored by recognizing two local charities. Queen Laura chose to honor our
beloved Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. King Danny requested donations be made to
Mary’s Shelter, a nonprofit caring home for homeless, adult pregnant women that
gives hese ladies a choice and a chance. Our zoo is home to special animals and also
a place where wishes may be granted. On the day of the TOI check presentation, a
special guest was visiting the zoo. A young lady stricken with an incurable illness
was driven thru several states to have a wish granted - that of visiting a pristine
beach and and interacting with animals. Our beautiful coastal community was the
perfect choice for granting both wishes. King Danny and Queen Laura had a royally
delightful time enjoying the animals. So much so that they both bonded with a little prince of a fellow, a baby kangaroo (pictured above). When the baby kangaroo’s
keeper was finally able to pry the baby kangaroo from King Danny and Queen
Laura’s tightly clinched arms, they regrouped and headed to their next destination,
Mary’s Shelter. Thank you King Danny and Queen Laura for setting an example for
us all. Please visit both organizations’ websites for more information on how you
may be able to make a difference. Visit The Treasures of the Isle website for more
information about the organization that combines good times with good works.

KING NEPTUNE’S CELEBRATES VALENTINE’S DAY WITH DRAWING FOR ROSES: King Neptune’s Seafood Restaurant celebrates Valentine’s Day
each year with a drawing to win a lovely bouquet of a dozen red roses provided by
Flowers by the Shore. It is a fun and heartfelt event that locals and winter guests
look forward to entering each year. This year, two winning couples were randomly
drawn from the entries. The first winning couple drawn was Jack and Mary Burtch
of Oxford, WI. They stopped at King Neptune’s on the way to their condo the first
night they arrived in Gulf Shores. “We enjoy this area very much. The weather is
much nicer than Wisconsin in February and we get to walk on the beach, collect
shells for the grandkids, and enjoy the Gulf atmosphere and people,” Mary says.
Mary and Jack have been wintering in Gulf Shores for the past five years and always
stop at King Neptune’s. Bob and Joyce Vogel of Sunrise Beach, MO were the second
couple to win a coveted Flowers by the Shore arrangement. Bob and Joyce have been
visiting Gulf Shores for the past four winters. They stumbled upon King Neptune’s
one evening when they were looking for a dive shop in the area (one happens to be
right next to King Neptune’s.) The dive shop was closed so they walked over to the
restaurant for dinner and have been hooked ever since. Diane Sawyer, owner of King
Neptune’s, invited them to enjoy a complimentary lunch in celebration. “We wish
both couples a lifetime of happiness and look forward to seeing them again before
they head home for spring,’’ she said. King Neptune’s is a locally owned seafood
restaurant where the surroundings are simple, yet comfortable with the focus on
good, fresh food done right. King Neptune’s is a southern restaurant where southern hospitality is way of life. For more information contact King Neptune’s Seafood
Restaurant at 251-968-5464. Pictured: (Above) Diane Sawyer of King Neptune’s

SMALL GROUPS OF SNOWBIRDS CAN MAKE A BIG IMPACT: The Lillian, AL KOA campground is winter home to snowbirds from Montana to New Hampshire who spend several
months here each year. The snowbirds thoroughly enjoy and feel
at home in this friendly little community on the bay and wanted
to say thank you to the year-round residents. Therefore the
campers decided to make their annual toga party into a fund
raiser for the Lillian American Legion, an organization that provides help to a wide variety of local residents. Fifty campers attended the party raising $1,220 with a 50/50 drawing, tip jar,
silent and “buy a Greek” auctions. The money was presented to
Ray Brown Commander of the Legion at a luncheon held at the
Crazy Horse Cafe on February 5th at which many of the snowbirds wore their togas. The Legion will use the funds to build
wheelchair ramps for veterans at no charge, sponsor a Little
League team, send two young men to Boys State annually and
loan medical equipment such as hospital beds, crutches, walkers,
ect for anyone in need. Small groups of snowbirds can make a big
impact with just a little effort and have fun doing it.

RELAY FOR LIFE GLOW IN THE PARK RUN AT THE WHARF
MORE PICTURES AT MULLETWRAPPER.COM
The 1st Annual Glow in the Park Glow Run at The Wharf was a
huge success with 597 participants raising over $2,000 to benefit Alabama Gulf Coast Relay for Life teams. We will be back in 2016 with
another fun filled glow run!
A huge thank you to Columbia Southern University, the event sponsor, and Spectrum Resorts, the lodging sponsor. John Tatone, manager at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill provided a buffet for our
participants along with great specials. He went over and above and
was a big part of the Run’s success. Gulf Shores High School, Columbia Southern, Spectrum and Meyer Vacation Rentals sent numerous volunteers to help with early packet pick-up, registration,
set up, and race day activities. We could not have done this event
without the help of such wonderful caring volunteers. Thank you all!
Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill has a running club that meets
every Wednesday night. So, check it out! John has a buffet for runners and prizes each week.
If you are interested in Relay for Life, please contact Theresa Enfinger at 251-747-3045. The 2015 Relay for Life event, which will be
held Sept. 12 at The Wharf, will have a tailgating theme with food
vendors and lots of games for everyone to enjoy. We will have even
more information coming soon! Check out main.acsevents.org for
