Prospectus, Judge’s Biography and Take-in forms attached, at the gallery and on the website www.coalartgallery.com. - Judy Richardson, Membership Show Director President's Column by Bob Mussay COAL has long had a policy that stated if a category has fewer than five entries it would be combined with another category for the purposes of judging. Members have expressed dissatisfaction with the fairness of this; therefore, the board has decided to keep the categories separate but award only a first place ribbon in the smaller category (or none at the discretion of the Judge). We are looking for a volunteer to demonstrate at our September demo because the scheduled artist is unable to attend. Please note that this will be an unpaid appearance, and could be an opportunity for one of our teachers to show his or her technique and possibly enroll some new students. Also a big thank you to Rita Shulak for her generous contribution to the Children’s Show and to Charles Dozer for stepping up to make the Karlovy Vary exchange a success. ART ON THE GREEN If you would like to find out more about joining 'Art on the Green' contact Ann Hurd at: [email protected] Stop by, Enjoy! Last but not least, it’s Fair time again and information cards are located on the desk in the Gallery. See the website for more information and registration is: www.SDFair.com/entry. The deadline to enter is Friday April 24. - Bob Mussay Memo by Charles Dozer Members of Carlsbad Oceanside Art League(COAL): Bruce Bartells, COAL Treasurer, "crunched the numbers" and found that the greater number of items sold at the Gallery were in the $20 dollar range. The number of larger dollar items sold were fewer. I concluded that COAL should consider offering our member's art for sale in a Poster format. Initially the plan is to have 16"x20" posters designed and printed and displayed for purchase at the Gallery. I already have 3-4 printers that are interested in our offering. We selected this size initially, because it can be easily "packed" for traveling, displayed in sleeves but sold in a roller. I am planning to hold a meeting in March, at the Gallery, to further discuss the details of the offering. If you are interested, please e-mail me at, [email protected], as to what day of the week and AM/PM is most convenient. Of course let me know of your questions. Charles Gallery Director's Column by Bernie Worby Congratulations to the 6 artists and the 2 alternates that were chosen for the show in Karlovy Vary. A lot of great art was submitted last Monday and the day came off quite seemlessly. Thanks to all who participated. The new flood lights for the gallery were installed the on the 4th. Many people have remarked on how bright the gallery is now and how this light lends new brilliance to the art. Thanks to John Lindhurst for spearheading this effort. Congratulations to Rita Shulak for having her painting entitled "California the Beautiful" in a prestigious exhibit held at the Omni Hotel, L Street Gallery. This is across the street from the Convention center. Come one, come all to the reception on April 11, 6 - 9 PM. All opening sitters please call me at 760-295-7635 and if you do not reach me then call 760-672-5990. The gallery is in need of 2 items. The first is a CD player with a tuner/amp or a stand alone CD player. The second is a an easel on which the sitters can Page 2 display their art. If you have either of these items please call me. When you sell and replace cards or shrink wrap and replenish your supply, the new items can only be left in the racks until the end of your three month period. At the conclusion of your three month period, all your materials should be removed. Some sales over the past month have not been recorded in the sales log. Please pay particular attention to make sure all sales are recorded. Then, please call the artist with the good news. Thanks to everyone who submitted art and to all the volunteers that make the gallery run efficiently. You are a very professional and dedicated group of people. It cannot be done without you.... EVERYONE is important!
