Students can take these non-credit classes via the Internet without coming on-site. Courses run on many different schedules and times to give the ultimate in student flexibility. Career Field Training Programs have open enrollment designed to provide the skills necessary to acquire professionalcaliber positions for many in-demand occupations. You will be prepared for entry-level competencies in phlebotomy in preparation for employment. The didactic classes include: healthcare delivery, basic anatomy and physiology, specimen collection, infection control and safety, specimen transport and processing, quality control, professionalism, and laboratory testing. Three weeks of full-time clinical experience in a local hospital or laboratory are also required and must be fulfilled within the three week time frame. Health forms must be submitted to participate in the clinical experience prior to registration. This program is approved through the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). (3 books) This program is designed to train students for entrance into Central Supply Services. The Central Sterile Processing program prepares students to develop skills necessary to properly disinfect, prepare, process, store, and issue both sterile and non-sterile medical/surgical supplies and equipment for direct patient care. Graduates of the program will be eligible to apply to take the National Institute for the Certification of Healthcare Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel Examination through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD). Guidelines do change often and there is no guarantee of completion of the Certification. Employment opportunities include: inpatient/outpatient surgery centers, dialysis units/facilities, and central sterile processing units in hospitals. When a Central Sterile Processing Technician completes an application for New York State Certification and the National Institute for the Certification of Healthcare Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel Examination, questions are asked about conviction of a crime and pending charges. If the answers are in the affirmative, particulars and disposition of each charge must be listed. The EKG Technician/Cardiac Monitor Technician program includes role responsibilities and duties, medical terminology, anatomy of the heart and cardiovascular system, basic EKG interpretation, recognizing abnormal electrocardiograms, performing electrocardiograph, use of equipment and supplies, understanding vital signs, procedures related to electrocardiograph, clinical disorders and emergencies affecting the heart and cardiovascular system, and the psychosocial needs of the cardiac patient. This training program prepares EKG Technicians and Cardiac Monitor Technicians for entry-level positions in hospitals, physician offices, and/or hospital telemetry units. This program also provides an excellent opportunity for phlebotomists, nursing assistants, and medical assistants to gain additional cross-training skills for today’s changing healthcare environment. Choose one of the six (6) hour sessions for healthcare professionals covering adult and pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic life support (BLS). The course addresses foreign body airway obstruction, automated external defibrillation (AED), special resuscitation situations, and other cardiopulmonary emergencies. Textbook must be read prior to class and latecomers are not admitted. Picture ID must be presented to be admitted to class. This program consists of 30 hours of lecture and a clinical component of five full-time days in area hospitals. Trocaire College’s Workforce Development has been approved by New York State to be a provider for this course work, which is required by Chapter 786 of the Laws of 1992. This Refresher Course is designed to help currently licensed and registered nurses who have been away from active practice to regain confidence in taking care of patients in various medical settings. It consists of lecture/didactic and hands-on laboratory skills training. Completion of the course will prepare nurses for relicensure and resumption of their nursing careers. Prerequisite: Registered Nurse A Certificate of Completion will be issued upon successful completion of the program. Licensed Practical Nurse Refresher Training Program Perioperative Nursing Fee: $1250 2015 Section 1: January 20, 2015 - May 3, 2015 Section 2: May 11, 2015 - August 23, 2015 Section 3: August 24, 2015 - December 6, 2015 This course is a 15-week hybrid program in which the student will (at designated dates and times) be required to attend classroom and laboratory sessions held on campus while completing online perioperative nursing learning modules. The learning modules consist of 15 assignments reflective of concepts basic to perioperative nursing, patient safety and risk management, infection prevention and control in the perioperative setting, anesthesia, positioning, sutures/needles/ instruments, surgical modalities, wound healing/dressings/ drains, postoperative patient care, pain management, surgical intervention, and special considerations. Each learning module includes required readings and suggested videos from Trocaire’s Perioperative Nursing Video Library. Prerequisite: Registered Nurse and Current CPR The student is also required to complete 10 days of Clinical Internship with a preceptor in a local hospital operating room setting. This in-depth review course covers both technical knowledge and test-taking skills. The program provides review of pathophysiology, pharmacology, data collection, appropriate nursing interventions, and planning and evaluation. Computer test-taking skills are covered. Follow the rise, fall, and medical resurgence of the profession in the last decade. Swedish techniques will be reintroduced and participants will enjoy a massage exchange with fellow therapists. Myofascial Release: Back Specific Techniques Massage clients will typically request treatment for the neck, back and hips. Registration is not valid until payment is made. There are no refunds once registered. CEU credits for programs that include them are a separate charge to the organization that issues the CEU credits. CEU/CE credits for certain classes are an additional fee. Classes are subject to change in fees and cost. Classes will be held unless the college is closed. Textbook may be required for the first class even if not listed under class descriptions. Parking stickers for the Mercy Hospital Ramp after 3:00 pm are available at the front security desk for $1/day. Place the sticker on the parking receipt you obtain when entering the ramp.
