When you join the Y or take part in our programs, you’re not just a member
of a facility or a participant in a class; you are part of a cause.
Our mission drives us to help mold the kind of people who care about others,
who are firm in their own sense of worth, who truly believe that everyone
is a child of God, whose outlook is community-wide andworld-wide, who

WHAT IS FITNESS?
Fitness is a relative term, and something that is both unique and
personal to you. Running a 5K road race, getting six-pack abs,
putting on muscle, getting your first pullup...these are all great
goals, but they may not work for everyone. Decide what your
fitness goals are, and work backwards from there.
SETTING SMART GOALS
The goals that you set should be S.M.A.R.T.
Not just intelligent, but S.M.A.R.T.

HOW WILL YOU DO THIS?
At the Y, we believe the best approach to overall health and fitness
is holistic. This means that all aspects of one’s health should be
considered:
* Psychological
* Physical
* Emotional
Our goal is to help you improve in all three areas. Through
education, support, and the use of our facilities, we can help you
become a healthier individual. Exercise has shown to increase
self-confidence, improve mood, and assist in positive changes
in a variety of areas critical to health (i.e. - cholesterol, blood
pressure, etc).
THE APPROACH
By participating in the Resolution Reset program, you will
receive weekly emails that will motivate you, give you suggestions
on different exercises to try (often times with links to demos or
articles), and give you some nutritional guidance. To participate,
simply fill out the tear-away on the back side of this form and
return it to a fitness staff member.
To really ensure your success, please use the tracking form we
have provided you. Earn a stamp each time you complete one of
the listed tasks. If each task is stamped by April 10th, hand in
your chart to receive a t-shirt! We look forward to seeing you
around the Malden Y!

Zumba Gold takes the Zumba formula and modifies the moves and
pacing to suit the needs of the active older participant, as well
as those just starting their journey to a fit and healthy lifestyle.
What stays the same are all the elements the Zumba Fitness-Party

YMCA’S DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM
You are NOT destined to be diagnosed with diabetes if you do something about it! Take control of your health, your life and your future
with the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program offered through the Malden YMCA.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, roughly 35% of U.S. adults have prediabetes and few are aware they are
at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Research by the National Institutes of Health has shown that programs like the YMCA’s
Diabetes Prevention Program can reduce the number of cases of type 2 diabetes by 58%. The reduction is even greater, 71%, among
adults aged 60 years or older. The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is part of the CDC-led National Diabetes Prevention Program
and is nationally supported by the Diabetes Prevention and Control Alliance.
COMMIT TO YOURSELF: This is a one year program that meets once per week for the first four months (16 sessions), and then once
per month for 8 maintenance sessions.
WITNESS THE TRANSFORMATION: While we will achieve many small goals throughout the duration of the program, our two big goals
will be to lose a minimum of 7% bodyweight and to work up to 150 minutes of physical activity per week. This won’t happen overnight,
but we will do it together.
TRUST: This program is “evidence-based”, which means it has been proven to work. It will be facilitated by a trained lifestyle coach who
will be dedicated to bringing the very best out of the group. Trust the coach, trust the group, and most of all trust yourself. You can do it!
INVEST: The cost of the program is $429 for the entire year. With that you will also receive complimentary access to our facility to help
you as you move forward with your life-changing journey. Please discuss payment plan options with Martin Dubovic, Director of Healthy
Living. Scholarships are available for those who qualify.
