(Life Teen Mass)
On this second Sunday of Lent, we are invited to follow Christ from the
wilderness of the desert up to the heights of Mt. Tabor, to witness His glorious
Transfiguration. Together with the Apostles Peter, James, and John, the Lord
Jesus initiates us into an ongoing dialogue with Moses and Elijah, who
represent the law and the prophets---the ancient promises of God to Israel.
This Sunday, March 1 at the 12:45PM Mass we shall have the communal
reception of the Anointing of the Sick. This Sacrament exists to transfigure
the sufferings of those facing serious illness or who struggle day by day with
the infirmities of old age.
This weekend we also pray for the men who are making the Christ Renews
His Parish retreat, that their life-changing conversion of heart would be an
inspiration for our own transformation.
Please join us this Wednesday, March 4 in church at 6:30PM for an hour
of inspiring music and personal witness by another of the sons of our Parish,
Fr. Terry (a.k.a. “Tink”) Coonan. His brother Fr. Matt’s presentation was a
great success last Wednesday. Not to imply that the Coonan family is
competitive, but I suspect Fr. Terry would be very happy to inform his elder
brother that the younger Coonan cleric packed the church with even more
people!
Finally, please continue to keep in your prayers the work of our Principal
Search Committee. If you have not already done so, there is still time to offer
your counsel to the Search Committee by going to the survey link on our
Parish website (www.saintv.org); the deadline for submissions is Monday,
March 2. I have great confidence that the Holy Spirit will work through every
stage of the Search Committee’s discernment to identify the best candidate
to be our new Principal for the coming school year.
Ex 20:1-17 / 1 Cor 1:22-25 / Jn 2:13-25

In St. Vincent’s love of Christ,
Fr. Daniel Scheidt
We will offer Anointing of the Sick at the
12:45 pm Mass this Sunday, March 1. If
you will be having surgery, have a grave/
terminal illness or are elderly, please sign
in before Mass in the Gathering Space.
NEW MEMBER REGISTRATION
HUNGERING FOR A BOUNTIFUL EARTH
Parish representatives will be in the
Church Conference Room next
Sunday, March 8, after the 9:00 am
Mass to welcome and register new
members to St. Vincent’s.
This week CRS Rice Bowl takes us to the coffee highlands of
Nicaragua, where we’re called to protect both the goodness
of creation and the livelihoods of struggling families. How will
this week’s fast remind us of the sacredness of God’s creation and our duty to
protect it?
PENITENTIAL RITE (BAPTIZED/CANDIDATES)
The scrutinies, which are solemnly celebrated on Sundays and are reinforced by an exorcism, are rites for self-searching and
repentance and have above all a spiritual purpose. The scrutinies are meant to uncover, then heal all that is weak,
defective, or sinful in the hearts of the elect; to bring out, then strengthen all that is upright, strong, and good. For the
scrutinies are celebrated in order to deliver the elect from the power of sin and Satan, to protect them against temptation,
and to give them strength in Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life.

BAPTISMAL PREPARATION CLASSES
Attendance at two Baptismal Preparation Sessions
is required before your child is baptized — Session I
and Session II. You may attend Session II before
Session I, if necessary. Each session will begin at
7:00 pm. It is recommended that both parents
attend before the birth of your child so that there will be no delay
in setting a date for the baptism once the baby is born.
Godparents, too, are welcome. At least one parent and one
godparent must be practicing Catholics. Also, parents must be
registered in the Parish. Please call the church office to sign up
for your sessions.
Session I (Parish Library) - March 12
Session II (Church Conference Room) - March 26
ROSARY MEETING
March 9 (DATE CHANGE!!) at 6:30 pm in the Spiritual
Center. All women of the parish are invited. We will pray
the rosary and string miraculous medals.
OLIVEWOOD SALES
Alfred & Grace Salsa, natives of Bethlehem, will be with
us this weekend with their beautiful display of the Holy
Land religious items made by the Christian families who
live behind the separation wall in the Holy City. Please
stop by their display in the Parish Library after all Masses
as you will find meaningful religious Easter gifts and
many other items for different occasions. Thank you and
God Bless.

SEMINARIAN CARE PACKAGES
Winter can sometimes seem very long, especially if you
are studying away from home! As part of our
commitment to our seminarian students, the Vocations
Committee would like to prepare "care packages" for
each of them to get through some of those days when it
seems like winter is dragging on! There will be a "gift
tree" near the Information Center with ideas for each of
the care packages. Please consider taking a tag, and
purchasing the item on the tag. All donations need to be
back to the church office no later than March 4. If you
do not have time to purchase items, but still want to
help, any monetary donations will be used to help
purchase gas cards and other gift cards for the
seminarians. Thanks for your help with this project!

LENTEN MASS & BREAKFAST:
Every Lent, we joyfully rely less on sleep and more on Christ as
we go to the 6:30 am Mass every Tuesday during Lent. We
then head over to the Life Center to eat some delicious
breakfast to help us get through the day. Bring your parents
too if you need a ride!! And if anyone would be able to help us
out by making a hot dish like a casserole or biscuits & gravy or
any other dish, please talk to Sarah - we’d be ever so grateful!
Thanks!!
LIFE NIGHTS
We round out our nights focusing on vocations with our night
about the priesthood, led by our very own Fr. Andrew. It’s a
night you don’t want to miss. Even if this isn’t your vocation,
we need to build up our young men discerning it and our
future sons.
INTO THE DEEP
Our Spring Retreat, Into the Deep, is set for April 17 - 19. It’s
going to be an incredible weekend to get away from your usual
routine and have some time to really grow closer to Christ
through talks, small groups, witnesses, skits, praise and
worship music, randomness, silence and so much more.
Spots fill up very quickly, so grab a retreat form from a Core
member, from the Information Desk, or on our website and
turn it in! Forms will only be accepted from St. Vincent and
OLGH teens until today, March 1, when it will open up to any
teen who wishes to attend.
INTO THE DEEP PRELUDE
Prelude is where we make all the Palancas and decorations
for the retreat. We meet every Tuesday & Thursday from
7-9 @ the Life Center, so just stop by anytime you have a free
moment. We’d love to say hi.
LIFE TEEN ON THE WEB
To stay current on what’s going on with Life Teen, especially
when it gets to inclement weather, we will post notices on our
FB page, our Twitter account, and our webpage:
www.saintvym.weebly.com. So be sure to Like, Follow, or
check us out. The Spring Retreat will be here soon, and forms
are now available too, so now is a good time to bookmark it
and check it out for a schedule of events and other info.
CORE TEAM
Have you felt God calling you to serve Him, but aren’t sure
how? Maybe He is calling you to serve His teens. This is an
amazing ministry and I encourage you to pray about joining the
Core team. If you are interested, or if you have someone else
to suggest, please talk to Sarah (435-0453) or any of the Core
for more information.

THANK YOU FOR CELEBRATING THE SCHOOL!
A great evening for all couples, the Celebrate the
Spirit of Love proved how our community shares the
laughter, music, and love of Catholic Education together.
With time to socialize with friends, browse the auctions
and enjoy delicious food, it was a perfect setting for
couples to enjoy the night and help the school. The
event exceeded expectations as people enjoyed bidding
on over 100 silent and live auction items and signing up
for future parties to attend! Much gratitude and special
thanks go out to the team of volunteers and parents who
helped since the fall to make this a special evening.
Many thanks to all the business sponsors and donors
who gave us their generous support and donated items.
We are blessed with our families and their enthusiasm
and sharing in our Community in Christ!
Watch for more information about how the school will
improve academic, art, security, and athletic programs
from money raised at the event.
Again, our sincerest gratitude goes to all who worked
to make this a perfect event.
