Helen Margaret Buhler
(nee: Gray) passed away
at the Olds Hospital on
Sunday, February 15
at the age of 90. Helen
was born April 8, 1924
in Edinburgh, Scotland.
During WWII she served
in the Scottish Women’s
Land Army. Following
the war, she trained as a nurse/midwife at the
Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Helen and her sister
Jean, immigrated to Canada in 1956 where she
met and married her husband Abram. She later
became a Registered Nurse at the Olds Hospital
where she worked for over 25 years retiring at the
age of 71. Helen was an active, fun loving and
caring woman who loved animals, going for long
walks with her dogs, enjoying the outdoors, and
gardening. Helen had a strong and independent
spirit which carried her through both good and
hard times. She often put others before herself
and loved to help people whenever she could.
She will be lovingly remembered and deeply
missed. She was predeceased by her father
Sydney, mother Elizabeth, sister Jean Chambers,
brother George Gray and husband Abram Buhler.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children
David (Michele) Buhler, William (Yvona) Buhler,
Kathy (Devon) Archer, stepson Jim (Debbie);
grandchildren Jimmy, Crystal, Matthew, Nadia,
David, Curtis, Logan, Carissa, Jessica, Shannon,
Michael and great grandson Lucas. Funeral
services were held on Friday February 20, 2015 at
Heartland Funeral Services Chapel, Olds. In lieu
of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the
S.P.C.A. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd.,

KERSELL
Ivan Marshal
Kersell of Olds
passed away at the
Peter Lougheed
Centre, Calgary in
his 87th year.
He was
surrounded by his
family during his
transition and peacefully slipped away in his
sleep in the early hours of February 7th, 2015.
Born September 16, 1928 in Toronto, Ivan
grew up with an avid interest in aviation which
turned into 5 years of service in the Royal
Canadian Air Force. Subsequently, he retrained
as a Director of Municipal Recreation, serving
in several communities before retiring in The
Pas, Manitoba in 1987. Ivan & Norma moved to
Olds in 1996 to be closer to family. During his
lifetime, Ivan invested his time and resources
supporting his church, Air Cadets, service
clubs, and many overseas foster children.
He will be greatly missed by the Catolico
and David families in the Philippines. He is
survived by his loving wife, Norma of 63 years;
daughters Brenda Kersell, Linda (Sam) Bossler,
Stephanie (Simon) Larouche; grandchildren
Graeme (Amanda), Robert, Karl (Stephanie);
step-grandchildren Dan, Kara (Adrian), Lisette,
Tammy (Vince), & Sheldon; great-grandchild
Wyatt; 6great step-grandchildren; his
sisters-in-law Mardi Kersell & Gladys
Grummett; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life and
legacy was held on Saturday, February 21st,
11am at First Baptist Church, Olds with Pastor
Norm Tauber officiating. In lieu of flowers,
memorial tributes may be made directly to
the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Ivan’s family is very grateful for all the care
and compassion he received from the doctors,
nurses, therapists and technicians at the Peter
Lougheed Centre. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd.,
Olds entrusted with arrangements.

1923 - 2015
Olive Hays passed away
in Olds on February 20
at the age of 92 years
(1923 – 2015).
She was born in
Portsmouth,
England
to Charles and Mabel
Shergold. In 1925 Charles,
Mabel and their four children:
Harry, Charlie, Grace and Olive settled on a farm, east
of Olds. The kids attended the Coburn School. Her
early years were shaped by living through the Great
Depression and WWII. Olive married Fred Hays in
1943, as he was heading overseas to serve with the
Royal Canadian Signal Corp. They had four children
– Fred, Sandy (Moore), Bob and Terry. Olive was a
busy home maker, ensuring the house chores were
done, the garden was tended, the cow was milked,
homemade bread was on the table and her children
were loved. She always found time for artistic outlets
in her sewing and needle work. She was inventive,
‘making- do’ or ‘making over’ whatever materials she
had at hand. Olive was a faithful helper and member
of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Recently she received
her 60 year service pin. She was known for her ready
smile and laugh where ever she worked, at the Olds
College and at the Olds Hospital. She made many
friends in her sporting activities–curling, bowling
and shuffle board.
Olive enjoyed time with each of her grandchildren,
making them feel completely loved and cherished.
When her great grandchildren came along, her
joy was boundless. She was always up for a fun
adventure including travels with her family from
BC to Nova Scotia, to England and Switzerland
and to Hawaii and Mexico. Her favorite times were
big family dinners, admiring one of the babies and
playing games with the kids. Olive enjoyed going
to Tim Hortons for coffee, games of BINGO and
Legion casino trips. She was loved by all and will be
sadly missed.
Olive was predeceased by baby Heather in 1956,
her husband Fred in 1979 and son-in-law George
Moore in 2014. She is survived by Fred and Cathie
Hays (Stephen – Indira and Evan), (Chris Hays and
Martha Yip), Sandy Moore (Courtney and Tracey
– Logan and Charley), (Shayna and John MacNeil –
Peyton and MacKenzie), Bob and Mary Hays (Karly
and Matt Zinken – Will), (Mike and Dena – Nyssa
and Felix) and Terry Hays (Katie).
Her memorial service will be held at the Olds Royal
Canadian Legion at 2 pm on February 27.
