Payments without this reference are difficult to trace and may be treated as a donation if not traced. A refund of £5 is offered to volunteers who do two shifts but payment for tickets upfront is still required. Page 1 of 7 Registering to Sell All sellers must complete and return a registration form for each sale, even if you have previously sold at one of our sales. This is because we cannot store your personal details due to the data protection act. If you have sold previously please ensure your previous seller number is on the registration form (if you haven’t sold with us this branch before or have forgotten your number just enter N/A). Labels will be sent out within a week of cleared payment via BACS. Please note that the name in which you register will be the name your seller’s proceeds cheque will be made out to. If you wish to sell using labels left over from a previous sale with us (Bishops Stortford) without purchasing a new pack then you may do so, but you will still need to complete and return the registration form. Please do not use labels left over from sales at other branches as our counting system is colour and number based. Please arrive to drop off your items at the time stated on page 1. Doors will close at 8.30am on Saturday morning and items will not be accepted after this time. We would prefer items to be dropped off on Friday evening if possible so that we have longer to set up. Please ensure you bring along your signed disclaimer form. You can collect your items between 3.15pm and 3.45pm. Please do not arrive before then as we will not be ready to return all of your unsold items as our volunteer team may not have finished sorting them all out. If you wish to donate your unsold items please answer yes in the appropriate box on your registration form. Any uncollected items will be treated as donations and may either be re-sold in the next sale with the proceeds going to the branch, donated to our bumps and babies group, baby bundles scheme or to a charity shop. How much money can I keep? For all the items that you sell you will take home 75% of the sale price. NCT takes a 25% commission which goes towards the charity’s work supporting mums and dads, preparing them for birth and early parenthood at both a local and national level. Please bear in mind that NNSs are our biggest fundraiser, and we need the event to be a huge success so it will be heavily advertised. Also the NCT have a great reputation for their nearly new sales, which means you are far more likely to sell more here and at better prices than at a regular car boot or table top sale, plus people will be able to pay by card, so you should make more money whilst also helping a great cause! Also, if you volunteer to help for two shifts, we will refund you the cost of one sellers pack. What can I sell? Clean, good quality items such as baby & children’s clothes, children’s toys & equipment and books can all be sold. To maximise your profits, please bear in mind that larger items, toys and books sell much better than clothes, so try to ensure that no more than half of your items are clothing. The following items can be sold, provided they meet the requirements: Children’s Toys (if safe, complete and in good working order, including batteries if required) Page 2 of 7 Moses basket mattresses if clean, dry and firm and 100% covered with PVC. Children’s pedal cycles (saddle height less than 635mm, in good condition, brakes working) Prams & Buggies must be in good condition with all parts included and fully working Baby toiletries should be sealed, originally for sale in the UK and before their use by date Carrycot stands labelled with size and weight loadings. Must have a guard rail, suitable base and be a maximum height of 432mm. Please supply instructions. Mains powered electrical items only if PAT tested by a qualified electrician. Brand new, breast pumps (electrically tested where necessary) with bottles. Children’s / Maternity clothes should be clean, with no stains or rips. If you are selling a travel system then you may attach a private advert for your car seat if you wish so that buyers can contact you directly after the sale. Please note that car seats themselves cannot be entered into the sale (see below). Condition of items Please bear in mind that this is a Nearly New Sale so please only include items that are in a condition that you yourself would buy things in. Items that are well presented will sell much better. Unfortunately if items are in poor condition they will put buyers off and we reserve the right not to include them in the Sale and return them to your box. What cannot be sold? It is your responsibility to ensure that goods you are selling are safe and fit for purpose. In order to protect NCT, you (the seller) and our customers, we have created a list of items that WILL NOT be accepted for sale. If you have any queries please feel free to ask [email protected] Recalled items (see information about recalls on RAPEX): http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/dyna/rapex/rapex_archives_en.cfm ) Upholstered furniture, including cots and highchairs, with the permanent label “Carelessness Causes Fire” Certain models of Maclaren pushchair if they are not fitted with a hinge safety cover Bag style baby slings - more info at http://babyproducts.about.com/od/babywearing/f/WhatIs-A-Bag-Sling.htm Car seats, car booster seats, ’Isofix’ bases or car seats from travel systems. Riding hats or crash helmets. Children’s garments with a draw string hood. Mains powered electrical items if not appropriately PAT tested by a qualified electrician. Bottles (unless being sold brand new and with breast pump), baby food & formula milk. Second-hand breast pumps. Videos. Second hand cot mattresses, and second hand moses basket mattresses if they do not meet the conditions above (i.e. clean, dry and firm and covered 100% with PVC). Bookstart books (the ones given free from the health visitor). Page 3 of 7 Prescription drugs / creams etc. Please note that selling these is illegal. We suggest that if you have excess prescription items that you either return them to a pharmacy for safe disposal or offer sealed items for free to someone who may need them e.g. via a Facebook site such as Bishops Stortford mummies group or a support group for your child’s condition. Very large items e.g. slides / swings. Door bouncers. Baby walkers (non-moving ones e.g. jumperoos are ok). How should I price my items? Please price items in multiples of 50p only (£1.00, £1.50, £2.00 etc.) The minimum price is 50p. Pricing is up to you but please bear in mind that if you price things highly they may not sell. Many high street outlets are selling clothing very cheaply now, even quality brands, so price your items competitively. Consider bundling items (i.e. 3 babygros or a jumper and trousers as an outfit) As a very rough guide items sell between one third and one half of their original price depending on condition. Most sellers use the following guidelines: o Babygros – 50p to £1 Cardigan/Jumpers - £1 to £3 o Coats/Jackets - £2 to £5 Dresses - £2 to £5 o Trousers/Jeans - £1 to £4 Shoes/Wellies - £1 to £3 How should I label my items? We use a two part label system. At the checkout, half the ticket will be cut off and retained and half will remain attached to the item. Please use the labels provided to mark up your goods before the sale. Both halves of the label should display the same information (see diagram on page 5). Please attach just one half of the label to your items - the other half needs to be easily removed at the tills. Labels need to be attached securely to items (not to hangers) using safety pins or tape. We can’t sell items without a label attached as we won’t know who to give the money to! So no label = no sale and the item can only be returned to you if you pick it from the “lost labels” table at the end of the sale. Page 4 of 7 Example Label Top half attached to item 8 No Style boys jeans Size 18-24 months £3 Price Bottom half unattached 8 No Style boys jeans Size 18-24 months Price £3 How should I package my items? For display purposes, all clothing must be put on hangers, except babygros and vests, which may be bundled in clear plastic bags. We will not be able to display other clothing not on hangers due to limited table space. If selling a bundle of items please ensure they are firmly attached to each other and that the price tag states clearly what is included in the bundle. Use a safety pin to attach the top of the tag to items of clothing as other adhesives may mark or damage the item. Please make sure the label is on the front and clearly visible. Please sort items into different categories (i.e. baby toys, preschool toys, books, shoes etc), and bag them in these categories. All clothing should be sorted into age group (0-3 months, 3-6, 6-12, 12-18, 18-24, 2-3 years, 3-4, 4-5, 5-6, 6-7, 7-8, 8-9, 9-10, 10-11, 11-12 and maternity) and bagged in these groups. If your item contains detachable pieces, e.g. equipment or toys, please attach these firmly to the item so they cannot be lost (e.g. place in a clear plastic bag and securely attach to the main item using string or masking tape). Securely attach the top of the label to equipment, books, toys and puzzles with string or masking tape. Do not use sellotape as you may mark or damage the item. Footwear should be tied together in pairs. If you have the original packaging and or instructions please include them - but don't tape it shut as people who can't check the goods inside may be reluctant to buy it. Please ensure your labels are securely attached to your items as they cannot be sold without labels. Page 5 of 7 Larger Items Provided they comply with what can be sold, label larger items in the same way and drop them off at the same time as your other items. Private Sales Notice Board Very large equipment (ie. Slides and swings) and other items can be advertised on private sales noticeboard on the day. You can advertise 2 items on a piece of paper (max A4) for £1. Please put all the information, picture of the item, your name and phone number on here and this will be displayed on the notice board on the day. These are considered private sales and potential buyers will contact you directly – we will take no commission. Please hand in at the same time as drop off at the registration desk, along with your £1 per sheet. What happens after the sale? After the sale your items will be sorted and packed into bags for you to collect and will be available for you to collect between 3.15pm and 3.45pm. Make sure that you also check the lost labels table for any of your items which may have lost their labels. This will be by the door to the hall. Please note that whilst we do our best to provide reasonable security at sales, all items are left at the venue at the seller’s own risk. The NCT accepts no liability for any loss or damage caused to goods for sale. A cheque will be posted to you within one month of the sale. Our treasurer works hard to post out all cheques as soon as possible, but do let us know if you have not received your money a month after the sale. If you have any questions or need any more information then please contact the Nearly New Sale team on [email protected]. The sale is run entirely by volunteers so don’t worry if you don’t hear from us straight away, we will get back to you when we can. Volunteering We will be unable to run the sale without sufficient volunteers (we need around 30-40 on top of those currently helping to organise). If you are able to help out for a few hours that day, or the day before, please indicate your availability and the no. of shifts you are willing to work on your registration form. Shifts will be allocated on a first come first served basis. All volunteers will be eligible to shop at the volunteers pre-sale before the doors open, and those on the last shift may be able to take home a cake or two at the end! The pre-sale will be started at 10am. Volunteers working the first Saturday shift will not be able to start pre-sale shopping early, therefore there is no disadvantage to volunteers if they work other shifts. All volunteers will have the same opportunity to shop. Page 6 of 7 The time slots are:Fri (4.00pm – 6.30pm, 4 people needed), 5.30pm – 8.30pm or 6.30pm – 9.30pm Sat 8am - 11am (very limited spaces), 10.30am – 1.30pm, 1.00pm – 3.45pm Anyone working 2 or more shifts will be eligible for one free sellers pack. Any spare strong men or women are especially welcome on the early Friday evening or at the later time on Saturday to help dismantle and load the rails. Also, if anyone is able to help us in getting our rails from storage to the venue and or taking them back again, please let us know. We need to collect these from Harlow at 4pm then deliver them to Leventhorpe school where volunteers will be waiting from 5.30pm to help unload. If anyone has or knows anyone with a van who would be willing to help us collect and return them, please let us know (mileage will be paid). Finally, we are looking for a few people to help us organise the sale, or help out in general in the branch. If you are able to come along to our branch meetings held monthly in an evening, and would like to help out, please contact us on [email protected]. Branch committee members who help to organise the sale and volunteer for all of the shifts will be able to attend the committee pre sale (set up to allow the committee members time to shop, due to being too busy running the volunteer presale and preparing for the sale). Thank you! Disclaimer The NCT will not be held responsible for any items lost during the sale and reserve the right to refuse items for sale on the grounds of poor quality, poor labelling or failure to follow these instructions. All sellers will be asked to sign a disclaimer and whilst every effort will be made to prevent loss or damage to goods on the day, this cannot be guaranteed. No compensatory payment will be made. Any items that become detached from their labels ahead of or during the sale will not be sold and it is the vendor’s responsibility to collect these items from the Lost Labels table at the end of the sale. Unclaimed items will be held for 1 week post-sale and collection can be arranged by contacting [email protected]. After this time they will be donated to a local charity shop or if appropriate, our Baby Bundles scheme or to our Bumps, Babies and Beyond group. Page 7 of 7
