The deadlines for the South Fayette scholarships are quickly approaching - The Pink Out Scholarship and Bea Minkler Scholarship deadlines are TODAY, February 27th. Nathan Ostrowski Memorial Scholarship deadline is April 7th and Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh Science Scholarship Award deadline is March 13th. Please submit on time if you are applying for any of these scholarships. Attention FBLA State Qualifiers: This Fundraiser will officially end today! Please submit your Coffee, Fudge and Cookie Dough Orders and Payment to Mrs. Perry by the end of the day. Attention All Students: Did you order a Letterman Jacket? The Letterman Jackets are in and can be picked up in the Athletic Office. You must pick up your jacket by the end of the day today, Feb. 27th. Please see Mrs. Demnyan with any questions. Attention all Students: Students considering a career in the armed services should consider taking the ASVAB Test next Wed., March 4th. The test will be administered at the high school by personnel affiliated with the armed services in the HS Conference Center. Students who are interested in taking the test, should sign up in the Guidance Office. Attention All Students: The annual Circle of Friends Penny Challenge starts on Mon., March 2nd and will run until Fri., March 20th. Our 1st period classes in the high school are competing for most raised. The class that raises the most will go to the movies in April and get to hold the winner’s trophy for a year! Second place will get movie passes. The other school buildings in the district will be involved as well. The money raised goes to programs and sports teams for kids with special needs. We’ve done a great job here at South Fayette in years past and are hoping to continue the tradition. Attention All Students: Congratulations to Spencer Barber and Jordan Timmons for being selected to play on the PIHL Varsity Hockey All Star West Division A team. Both Spencer and Jordan were recognized for their outstanding contributions during the 2014-2015 hockey season. The PIHL All Star games were played on Sat., Feb. 7th. Spencer and Jordan contributed to the West Division team win, 7-4. Jordan had a goal and an assist and Spencer had an assist. Congratulations Governor STEM Team: Congratulations to Brennan McCann, Cara Price, Brooke Ley, Jackie Witwicki and Eishan Ashwat for taking 1st place in the State’s Largest Regional Governor's STEM Competition at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU). Our region had the most teams competing, 15 total, compared to all the other regional competitions across the state. The 3-phase competition had (1) an onsite team problem-solving challenge of an egg drop, (2) a 10-minute presentation on STEM in our Community, and (3) a 20-minute prototype presentation, which left one judge in such a state, his comment was, "You guys need to get this patented as soon as possible !" So, they seemed greatly impressed with our new walker design, called "The LifeSafer". These talented students will now head east on May 29th to complete the sweep and bring home another State Title! Attention All Students & Parents: Sponsored by the members of the National Honors Society, a veteran’s collection drive is currently being held. This drive benefits the VA Hospital of Pittsburgh and will run from February 9th to March 6th. The items the NHS is looking to donate to the hospital include: new adult size t-shirts, adult socks, combs, hair brushes, toothbrushes, etc. These donations can be placed in the boxes located by the Main Office in the High School. 3 Attention All Students: Not able to stay after school for math tutoring? If you need to get help on a homework assignment, review for a test, or just simply receive additional practice, you now have the option to do so before school. The math department is now offering AM tutoring 3 days a week.
