NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS
Congratulations Governor STEM Team: Congratulations to Brennan McCann, Cara Price, Brooke Ley, Jackie
st
Witwicki and Eishan Ashwat for taking 1 place in the State’s Largest Regional Governor's STEM Competition at the
Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU). Our region had the most teams competing, 15 total, compared to all the other
regional competitions across the state. The 3-phase competition had (1) an on-site team problem-solving challenge of
an egg drop, (2) a 10-minute presentation on STEM in our Community, and (3) a 20-minute prototype presentation,
which left one judge in such a state, his comment was, "You guys need to get this patented as soon as possible !" So,
they seemed greatly impressed with our new walker design, called "The LifeSafer". These talented students will now
head east on May 29th to complete the sweep and bring home another State Title! Good luck crew!
Attention All Students: Did you order a Letterman Jacket? The Letterman Jackets are in and can be picked up in

the Athletic Office. You must pick up your jacket by this Friday, Feb. 27 . Please see Mrs. Demnyan with any

Attention All Students: Our SF SADD Chapter (Students Against Destructive Decisions) is looking for members!
Sign up for this club in the Student Center and see Sergeant Sgro for more information on meetings and issues the

club will address. The first meeting will be held this Tues., Feb. 24 after school in the HS Conf. Ctr.
Attention All Students: Spring sports signups are going on now! Sign up in the Athletic Office by this Wed., Feb.
25th. Sports include: softball, baseball, boys tennis, and track. See Mrs. Demynan in the Athletic Office for the
appropriate forms. THE SPRING SPORT SEASON BEGINS MONDAY, MARCH 2, 2015.

Attention all Students: Student Government will be having its next meeting this Wed., Feb. 25 , after school in the
HS Conf. Ctr. We are looking for new members from all grades, so if you are interested in joining Student Government,
please attend the meeting. Student Government holds meetings every Wednesday after school in the Conference
Center, so even if you cannot attend this meeting, please try to attend another upcoming meeting. Please see Mr.
Yerace, Mrs. Clonan, Mr. Flannery, or Mr. McArdle for more information.

Attention all Students: This Thur., Feb. 26 , is the 50 day until Mini-THON 2015! To celebrate, we are sponsoring a

Attention Seniors! The Nathan Ostrowski Memorial Scholarship (due by April 7 ) and the Spectroscopy Society of

Pittsburgh Science Scholarship Award (due by March 13 ) applications are now available in the guidance office. Both
scholarships will be granted to South Fayette Seniors.
Attention all Students: Students considering a career in the armed services should consider taking the ASVAB test

on Wed., March 4 . The test will be administered at the high school by personnel affiliated with the armed services.
Students who are interested in taking the test, should sign up in the guidance office.
Attention All Students and Parents: The SF Girls Varsity Basketball Team are playing tonight against South Park at
the WPIAL Quarterfinal Round Playoff game tonight! The game will be played at North Hills High School at 6:30 PM.

Attention Juniors: Chartiers Valley High School is hosting a FREE Mini ACT Practice Test on Thurs., March 26 from
6:00-8:00 PM. Experienced test-prep tutor, Phil McCaffrey, will cut a previous ACT in half, proctor the test, and then
score it for you. For more information, contact Phil McCaffrey at 412-855-5535.

Attention all Students: Any student who would still like to purchase their Datamatch survey may do so from Mr.
McArdle in classroom AB221. Surveys are $2 a piece.
Attention all Students: If you are interested in signing up for the Mini-THON in April, please go to Mr. Flannery’s
room to get your signup forms. All money raised from the event will go to support the Four Diamonds Fund to fight
childhood cancer. Last year we had thirty teams and over 250 students participate and raised over $21,000, and we
hope to see you at this year’s event! A reminder to all team captains that you should be getting your team members
signed up on DonorDrive as soon as possible.
Attention All Students: Penn Commercial Business and Technical School, located in Washington, PA is hosting their
Annual Career and College Fair on Fri., March 13, 2015 between the hours of 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Businesses,
post-secondary schools and agencies have been invited. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about their
choices after high school. Admission is free. If you have any questions, please contact Emily Brewer at 724-2225330, Ext. 240.
Attention Seniors: The deadlines for South Fayette scholarships are quickly approaching. The Pink Out Scholarship
deadline is February 27th and the Bea Minkler Scholarship deadline is February 27th. Please submit on time if you are
applying for any of these scholarships.

Attention All Students: Are you interested in joining the National Honors Society? Applications have been sent
home to all sophomores and juniors who qualify. Please be aware that all applications must be turned in to Mrs. Roth,
Okel, or Quirk no later than Monday, March 16th.
Attention All Students & Parents: Sponsored by the members of the National Honors Society, a veteran’s collection

drive is currently being held. This drive benefits the VA Hospital of Pittsburgh and will run from February 9 to March

6 . The items the NHS is looking to donate to the hospital include: new adult size t-shirts, adult socks, combs, hair
brushes, toothbrushes, etc. These donations can be placed in the boxes located by the Main Office in the High School.
Attention All Students: Not able to stay after school for math tutoring? If you need to get help on a homework
assignment, review for a test, or just simply receive additional practice, you now have the option to do so before
school. The math department is now offering AM tutoring 3 days a week. Mrs. Palmer and Ms. Roche will be
available for math tutoring on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 6:30 – 7:05 AM in Mrs. Ullom's Room AB 111.
