Dismissal Hymns
The Co-Eternal Logos with Father and Spirit, *
who from the Virgin was born for the salvation of
us, * let us sing a hymn of praise and worship. *
For He suffered in the flesh, * being raised upon
the Cross and death He endured; * and raising the
dead, * in the glory of His Resurrection.

Mode pl. 1.
We venerate Your immaculate image, O good
Lord, entreating for forgiveness of our offences,
O Christ our God. By Your own choice you were
well-pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh, to
deliver those whom you had fashioned from their
slavery to the foe. Therefore with thanksgiving
we cry to you: You have filled all things with
joy, O our Savior, by coming to save the world.
Mode 4.
Today is the summary of our salvation, and the
revelation of the age-old mystery. For the Son of
God becomes the Son of the Virgin, and Gabriel
announces the good news of grace. Therefore, let us
join him, and cry aloud to the Theotokos: “Rejoice,
Maiden full of grace! The Lord is with you.ʺ

γὰρ εἰς τὴν μισθαποδοσίαν. Καὶ τί ἔτι λέγω;

Hebrews 11:24–26, 32–40
rethren, by faith Moses, when he was
grown up, refused to be called the son of
Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to share
ill-treatment with the people of God than to
enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. And what
more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell
of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David
and Samuel and the prophets who through
faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice,
received promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
quenched raging fire, escaped the edge of the
sword, won strength out of weakness, became
mighty in war, put foreign enemies to flight.
Women received their dead by resurrection.
Some were tortured, refusing to accept release,
that they might rise again to a better life. Others
suffered mocking and scourging, and even
chains and imprisonment. They were stoned,
they were sawn in two, they were killed with
the sword; they went about in skins of sheep
and goats, destitute, afflicted, ill-treated — of
whom the world was not worthy — wandering
over deserts and mountains, and in dens and
caves of the earth. And all these, though well
attested by their faith, did not receive what was
promised, since God had foreseen something
better for us, that apart from us they should not
be made perfect.

t that time, Jesus decided to go to Galilee. And he found Philip and said to
him, “Follow me.” Now Philip was from
Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
Philip found Nathanael, and he said to him,
“We have found him of whom Moses in the
law and also the prophets
wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the
son of Joseph.” Nathanael
said to him, “Can anything
good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him,
“Come and see.” Jesus saw
Nathanael coming to him,
and said of him, “Behold,
an Israelite indeed, in whom
is no guile!” Nathanael said
to him, “How do you know
me?” Jesus answered him,
“Before Philip called you,
when you were under the fig
tree, I saw you.” Nathanael
answered him, “Rabbi, you
are the son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, I
saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You
shall see greater things than these.” And he said
to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see
heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.”
od created man out of visible and invisible nature with his own hands according to the
image and likeness, forming the body from the earth and through his own breathing upon
it giving it a rational and intellectual soul, which we call the divine image. That which is “according to the image” is manifest in the intellect and free will. That which is “according to the likeness” is manifest in such likeness in virtue as is possible. St. John of Damascus

rayer is, indeed, a great good, beneficial, and preserves our souls. But prayer is great when
we act in line with our prayers and do not undermine by our behavior the very thing for
which we pray. And you, too, therefore, when you go to the priest, and he says to you, “The Lord
will have mercy on you, my child,” do not trust in the word only but add works to your trust.
Mercy is an excellent thing! Why, then, haven’t you shown it to another? St. John Chrysostom

The Synodikon
A
s the Prophets beheld; as the Apostles taught; as the Church received; as
the Teachers dogmatized; as the Universe has agreed; as Grace has shone
forth; as Truth has been proven; as falsehood has been disproven; as Wisdom
has been presented; as Christ has rewarded. This is what we believe; this is what
we declare; this is what we preach, Christ our true God, and we honor His Saints
in words, in thought, in sacrifices, in Churches and in Icons. Christ, we worship
as God and Master, and His Saints we honor as true servants of our same Lord,
and accordingly we grant them veneration.
This is the Faith of the Apostles!
This is the Faith of the Fathers!
This is the Faith of the Orthodox!
This is the Faith which has established the Universe!
Therefore, with brotherly and filial love, we praise these preachers of piety, for
the glory and honor of their own pious struggle for the Faith, and we say: “Eternal be the memory of the defenders of Orthodoxy; pious Sovereigns, holy Patriarchs, Hierarchs, Teachers, Martyrs, and Confessors.”
Eternal be their memory (3).
Let their deeds and struggles of pious
faith, even to death, tutor and strengthen you.
Entreat God that we may imitate their devout
life until our own end, beseeching Him that we
may be made worthy of all our askings, by the
grace and compassion of the Great and First
Hierarch, Christ our true God; by the intercessions of our most glorious Lady Theotokos and
Ever-Virgin Mary, of the godly Angels, and of
all the Saints.
Amen.
