As a school, we get feedback about how we are doing as we seek to help students learn for service in the various ways:
through conversations, through interactions, by collecting data, and by surveys.
A main way is through the regularly scheduled meetings and events throughout the year including: New Parent Meetings,
Future Directions, Mentorship, Careers, and our two Membership Meetings. Four times a year we host Learning Dialogues
for students and their parents or guardians to interact with the teachers.
We also regularly look at our students’ grades, their learning skills, and their averages. We collect most of this data through
Learning Reports (the first one for the semester went out yesterday).
In the past, we surveyed outgoing Grade 12 students about their experiences from when they arrived until they left. We
asked them what we did well and what we might improve on. One of the areas examined was how TDChristian affected
students in their faith journeys. We thought we might do that again.
After some research we decided to use the REVEAL survey put out by Christian Schools International - a survey that touches on thought-provoking issues about high school students’ spiritual lives and the role of high school in that journey. Over
the past two weeks we surveyed students in Grades 9 and 12. Our students’ input will provide feedback as to what’s helping
them grow spiritually and what’s getting in the way. Through it we hope to identify ways that we might improve our students
learning for service in the light of God’s Word.
Another step we took for the first time last June was the Graceworks survey that sought input from TDChristian families
about the learning at TDChristian. Due to the poor timing of the survey, fewer than 20% of our families responded. Consequently, we are asking families to complete the survey earlier this year. Our goal is a minimum of 140 families. This number
should assure us of a high rate of statistical accuracy. It would be great to get more families.

[email protected]. She will give you a special number and instructions so that you can take the survey which takes between 20 and 30 minutes to complete. Survey responses remain totally confidential, if you desire. See http://www.graceworksministries.org/research.htm for more details.
FAMILIES can earn ONE VOLUNTEER HOUR for completing the Graceworks survey. As a bonus, TDChristian students of
families which complete the survey will receive a free ice cream sandwich (or equivalent) from the school store. Students,
encourage your parents to do the survey for the betterment of the school and for free food.
We are counting on each one of you to help make TDChristian a better place for learning!

Course Selections, Fifth Year, and a New Program for 2016-17
Course selections sheets and course descriptions can be found under the Course Info tab on the Splash Page (top right).
Next year’s Grade 10 students’ Course Selection sheets were due in the office last Friday, February 27 at 9 a.m.
Next year’s Grade 11 students’ Course Selections sheets (and applications for Internship and/or International Block) are
due on Friday, March 6 at 9 a.m. Please bring them in to the office.
Next year’s Grade 12 students’ Course Selections sheets (and any related applications) were due in the office at 9 a.m.
today, Wednesday, March 4 at 9 a.m.
As we have in past years, we welcome this year’s Grade 12 students to consider a fifth year at our school. Students who
work as Student Assistants can qualify for a tuition reduction.
TDChristian is developing a Fifth Year program for 2016-17. Students currently in Grade 11 would be the first class to be
eligible for this Leadership program.

We ask for continued prayer for Stephen Bressanutti’s mom, Sandie, that her cancer treatments will be effective.
As well, please keep the following in your prayers:
Jessica Jackson and her family as Jessica’s grandfather passed away very suddenly last week. He will be greatly missed.
Kina Van Til, one of the missionaries our DR team works closely with, fainted last Saturday. She was hospitalized and tests
were run. She is being released today but it is still unclear as to what the caused her to lose consciousness.
Students and staff in the Dominican Republic who are on the International Co-op.
Marg Laswick, Evelyn and Rod Dengerink and the students who leave on a service trip to Belize next Wednesday.
Mr. Vanderkloet and Ms. Vanderkooy who will be accompanying a group of students to Europe on a Canada’s Battlefields
trip on the same day.
Then there are the many parents, students and teachers who will be travelling during the March Break as well as others
who will enjoy wintry leisure activities here in Ontario. Please pray for safety and a meaningful time of “rest” from school for
all, whether going far or staying near.
2015 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test

On Thursday, March 26, Grade 10 students across the province will write the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). It will also be written by students who were previously eligible but have not yet written the test or who were unsuccessful on their first attempt. The OSSLT is administered by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO), an
independent agency of the Government of Ontario, in order to determine whether students have acquired the minimum
literacy (reading and writing) skills expected by The Ontario Curriculum across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9.
Grade 9 Online Trial Literacy Test: March 10/11
EQAO is offering an online trial of the OSSLT that will be open to Grade 9 students. The purpose of this trial is to give the cohort of students, who, in the 2015–2016 school year, will be the first to have an opportunity to write the OSSLT online, some
experience with the online assessment system. Some TD Grade 9 classes will be participating in this online trial next week.

Athletics

Congratulations to the Junior Girls Tier 1 Volleyball team which advanced to the YRAA Championship Finals against
St. Maxmillian from Aurora this past Monday. Our team defeated the higher seeded Unionville High School team in
the YRAA semi-finals 26-24 and 29-27 on Friday at the playoff tournament hosted at our school. The girls came out
sluggish in the first set on Monday, losing 25-11. However, they responded well taking the
second set, 25-21. The third set was back and forth with St. Max coming out the victor, 15-13. Congratulations to the
girls for a successful season and for earning the silver medal in the YRAA Championships.
The Senior Girls Volleyball team had a rough go at their YRAA Play-off tournament last week partly due to the absence of a few players who left as part of the International Block team. The Senior Girls Volleyball team will take part
in the OFSAA Championship Tournament next week from March 9 to 11, hosted by Hamilton District Christian High
School in Ancaster. Although several members of the senior team are away in the Dominican, the addition of strong
junior players will make TD a contender at this year’s provincial championships.
Spring Tryouts
• The Ultimate frisbee and boys soccer teams have concluded their tryouts.
• Badminton tryouts have begun.
• The Girls Soccer team will begin tryouts after March Break. The first tryout is for girls in grades 9 and 10 on
Wednesday, March 25 at 7:00 a.m in the gym. The next tryout will be for girls in all grades on Thursday, Mar 26
at 3:00 p.m at the Soccer Centre.
• Track & Field tryouts will begin on April 2.
Music Notes - K. Hayward
Last Thursday, February 26, was a great day for music and artistic expression in and outside of TDChristian. In the
morning the Concert band and Praise Band travelled to Oshawa to participate in the Ontario Christian Music Festival. This event provides school and community groups with the opportunity to perform for a panel of adjudicators, receive feedback, and if they desire, a ranking, according to the standards of Musicfest Canada. Groups who perform
at a high enough level are invited to perform at MusicFest Canada, an annual national event that brings together
more than 10,000 of Canada’s finest young musicians who perform for recognition as the country’s foremost musical
ensembles. Both Groups performed well receiving Gold and Silver standards, respectively, and have been invited
to perform at the National festival for the next two years. Congratulations Concert and Praise bands!
Thursday evening was a night to remember. Those in attendance at the TDChristian annual Talent Show were
treated to everything from step dancing to our very own DJ. Of particular note this year was the number of performers who are grade 9 students. Well done!
While there are many who were responsible for the success of the night, Mr. Fluit and his helpers: Danielle DeBoer,
Allison Vanderwier, Amber Tarasuk and Sarah Stewart are to be especially commended for all of their hard work. Our
Masters of Ceremony, Mark Hanna and Emily Amos-Wood did a great job of keeping the night moving.
Concert band members and parents are reminded that there will be no concert band rehearsals on the following
dates: March 24 & April.
There will be a rehearsal on May 19th - the Tuesday following Victoria Day!

Volunteers are needed to help with lunch at a school function on Friday, March 27. We will need large crock pots

Post-Secondary Applications
Students with Disabilities: colleges and universities are committed to supporting the learning needs and easing
the transition to university and college for all students. For example, the U of Guelph encourages all applicants
with disabilities to use the Admission and Transition Planner 2015 to provide quick and easy access to important
dates and deadlines and to assist students in navigating the process. As well, they offer a Pre-Flight program
which happens during the summer and is open to students planning to enter any Ontario university in the Fall of
2015. They also have a G.P.S. (Guelph Pre-Semester) Launch for students who experience mental health issues,
and students on the autism spectrum. Once you know which college or university you plan to attend, contact their
office for students with disabilities to see what services are available to you there.

Interaction is a one-day conference at the University of Guelph for Grade 10 and 11 students, introducing university living and learning. From “Angry Avians”, “What’s Your Reputation Worth? Controlling Your Online Identity or
“Amadeus to Zepplin: Music and Contemporary Culture”, they have planned an educational and interactive full-day
program. Two dates to choose from: April 22 and April 23, 2015. The registration fee is $30 per student. Check

• The Boyd Archaeological Field School is offering a two week long Interdisciplinary Studies University Preparatory program for students who are interested in a career in archaeology or heritage related fields. Earn a Grade

• During July, L.E.A.P. (Learning Enrichment Advancement Program) exposes today’s youth to the possibilities
of tomorrow by showcasing McMaster Engineering’s various departments. Choose between different streams
(Science, Mechanical, Civil...), build hands-on projects, such as exploring the anatomy of a fetal pig, and tour

Canadian Improv Games

Congratulations to our Canadian Improv Games team on advancing to the Toronto Regional Tournament!!! We are
currently ranked 11th in the Region which is pretty amazing when you consider that 1) every other school ahead of
us is at least triple our size, 2) all but one have been competing for at least three times as long and, 3) many of them
are actually arts-focused schools.
Regionals run the week after our March Break (March 24-28) at the Al Green Theatre in Toronto - just seconds away

Our CURTAIN UP PROGRAM applications are now available. The program is FREE and no experience is required.
We do require interest, commitment and enthusiasm!

- students Project Day assignment involves collecting and assembling a wearable costume for Recycled Runway
which will focus on the theme of technology this year. It is wise to begin that process.
Class Trip
The senior Phys-Ed class is travelling to Mount St. Louis on Friday, March 6 as part of a class ski trip. They will all
be given lessons and time to ski or snowboard for the day. Students will be back in time for the buses on Friday. A
permission form was sent home with students on Monday. It needs to be signed and brought back to school as soon
as possible. Students need to cover part of the cost - students who need to rent pay $25 and students who have their
own equipment pay $15.
Wanted
If you have any wood working tools that you would be willing to donate to the Green Industries class, please contact
Mr. Klompmaker ([email protected]). There are students who wish to turn fallen trees into furniture and
art. Ideas for good places to purchase tools would also be appreciated.
