Their sustained dialogue about the most important things ---even those matters which are the most painful and embarrassing---is the precondition for Christ’s miracle of her conversion and His gift of a happier life and a new mission for her. Our Lenten speaker series has so far been a great success toward our parish-wide conversion to love Christ more deeply. Now that we have been edified by the two Coonan clerics---Fr. Matt and Fr. Tink---we are ready for Fr. Ben Muhlenkamp (of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish fame), who will be speaking about how his friendship with St. Philip Neri has helped grow his relationship with the Lord Jesus. This presentation will be this Wednesday, March 4 in church at 6:30PM and will include inspiring music as well as personal witness. Fr. Ben, who was very active in our Life Teen program back in the day, is currently a chaplain at Bishop Luers High School. Finally, please continue to keep in your prayers the work of our Principal Search Committee, which continues to meet in these coming weeks. I have great confidence that the Holy Spirit will work through every stage of the Search Committee’s discernment to identify the best candidate to be our new Principal for the next school year. In St. Vincent’s love of Christ, Fr. Daniel Scheidt PARISH FAMILY PANCAKE BREAKFAST Please join us for a pancake breakfast THIS Sunday, March 8, from 8:00—11:00 am in the Parish Hall. There is a free will donation to enjoy this delicious breakfast. NEW MEMBER REGISTRATION Parish representatives will be in the Church Conference Room THIS Sunday, March 8, after the 9:00 am Mass to welcome and register new members to St. Vincent’s. HUNGERING FOR A SEASON OF HOPE The next stop on our CRS Rice Bowl journey is the African nation, Niger, where we’re reminded that life’s joys and challenges are often seasonal. This week we pray for people who struggle to feed their families during the hungry season—when food is in short supply—and we commit to acting for the common good. PASTORAL TEXTS THROUGH LENT Would you like to receive a daily text message during this Lenten season? Fr. David Mary, Msgr. Galic, Fr. Budzinski, Fr. Gurtner and the honorable Bishop Kevin Rhoades have provided text messages to support your spiritual journey. Text "GO CATHOLIC" to 20300 to receive your daily message throughout Lent. Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus 4th degree Anthony Wayne Assembly. (Message and data rates may apply, if you do not have text messaging.) 1ST, 2ND & 3RD SCRUTINIES (ELECT) In order to inspire the elect a desire for purification and redemption by Christ, three scrutinies are celebrated. By this means, first of all, the elect are instructed gradually about the mystery of sin, from which the whole world and every person longs to be delivered and thus saved from its present and future consequences. Second, their spirit is filled with Christ the Redeemer, who is the living water (gospel of the Samaritan woman in the first scrutiny), the light of the world (gospel of the man born blind in the second scrutiny), the resurrection and the life (gospel of Lazarus in the third scrutiny). From the first to the final scrutiny the elect should progress in their perception of sin and their desire for salvation. C HURCH N EWS BAPTISMAL PREPARATION CLASSES ST. The Knights have rebuilt the steps of the altar this past year and in the spring will straighten the tombstones and refinish the mahogany cross at the altar. A situation of concern are headstones displaced from the original grave and areas with no headstones. If you have information about persons buried in the old cemetery without a headstone, information that will help us update the records of the old cemetery, or any information you feel would be of interest about the old cemetery, please contact Jim Cox at 637-4969 or [email protected]. Starting fresh, the programs offered by his local Catholic Charities helped him learn English, develop his skills, and eventually make enough money for his children to join him. "I felt like I had lost my identity," he said, "but now I feel like I have made a new home." Last year, over 21,000 refugees nationwide achieved self-sufficiency thanks to the support of Catholic Charities programs. To learn more, please visit www.CatholicCharitiesUSA.org.
