Third Sunday of Lent
March 8, 2015
Dear Parishioners,
As we begin the Third Sunday of Lent, I thought it might be good to review the threefold disciples of the
season--prayer, fasting and alms giving.
Prayer – In prayer, we always have to remember that God speaks to us first. He does so in nature, in the scripture and through the people of our lives. A good friend tries to listen closely, as we try to listen to our God who
calls us friends. Sometimes we get distracted and that can disturb us. Some of these thoughts are just that; we
need to recognize them and then move on. Some persistent “distractions” are really God's voice trying to tell us
something. Our prayer then is to ask God to help us find their meaning.
Fasting – By now most of us have fallen from our promise to give up this or that! Some of us think, “Wow, is
it the Third week of Lent already?” “Well, it's too late. I'll just eat that chocolate cake and maybe next year!”
My words in this matter and in all my letters are that each one of you needs to ask yourself where am I in my
journey. Your thoughts should always be taken according to where you're at. Some of us need to get going for
we have been very lazy! Others perhaps would be better off relaxing a bit, enjoying an apple pie, or a Malbec or
perhaps even a Tyskie! All the denials and fasting during Lent are to help us recognize all of our blessings and
to point us to a greater love of God and our neighbor, especially the poor. For some, you may be better off helping with Uncle Pete’s Ministry and stop focusing on not trying one of the 31 Flavors! In all this we should take
time to pray over what God is telling us about our life with him.
Almsgiving - I often hear people say I give my time and talent so I don't have to give financially. Well, first of
all a hug or a prayer does not fill a belly. While we often can say very honestly that we don't have a great deal
money but I think all of us have some. The widow who gave from her want? If we don't open our pocket book,
our faith can just become ideas, things we do but don't cost us security. The challenge for all of us is to be
really honest about it; money does matter. Have you ever decided how to split up the breakfast bill with your
friends? When you talk about money, you're getting into the nitty gritty of life – correct! Piety often goes out
the window!
Now, most of us do have some sort of charity that we support whether local or in some mission land. Unfortunately, more and more people are giving very generously to Make A Wish Foundation or to fight cancer, ALS
or some horrific disease. These are very worthy causes! My aunt had breast cancer and my brother-in-law died
of ALS – Lou Gehrig. It's very, very sad for the patient and for the helpless family and friends who feel so
devastated. I, myself, know that many of you give to these institutions without question and that is inspiring
and noble. You'll get up early to walk or run along the lake front to raise money. Some even skip mass but
that's another matter. My concern is that when it comes to the church, or your own parish's charity or support of
your parish's mission, some, certainly not all, are less enthusiastic and can be at times so suspicious of how the
funds are used. If they do give to the church, they don't want to talk about it, at least as much as they promote
these other worthy causes. And I'm talking about Church going Catholics!
Prayer, fasting and almsgiving are really faith questions. All are meant to simply be an inspiration to realize
God's love and mercy for each one us – the worthy and the unworthy.
May your journey of Lent be fruitful and a blessing.
Father Mike Meany

PERPETUAL
EUCHARISTIC
ADORATION
Christ's followers were
skeptical when He preached
the reality of His Body and
Blood as food and drink. St.
John said, "many of His disciples withdrew and no longer
went about with Him."
Seeing this, Jesus asked the Twelve, "Do
you also want to leave me?" Simon Peter did
not understand any more than those who left
Christ, but his loyalty was more firm. "Lord,"
he said, "to whom shall we go? You have
the words of eternal life."
We have the "Word of Eternal Life"
right here with us day and night in our
Adoration Chapel. Do you have something
you want to ask Him? There are several
hours needing adorers. Please pick one for
your personal hour with Him.

THE FEAST OF DIVINE MERCY—April 12, 2015
In 1931, Our Lord appeared to Sister Faustina Kowalska in a vision and gave her the
mission of spreading His message of Mercy to the whole world. Jesus said to her:
“Paint an image according to the pattern you see with the signature: “Jesus, I Trust
In You” ---“Jezu, Ufam Tobie. This Feast emerged from the very depths of My
mercy, and it is confirmed in the vast depths of My tender mercies (420)…It is My
desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the First Sunday after Easter. I desire that the
Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners.
On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls
who approach the fountain of My mercy (699).
On the first Sunday after Easter 2000, POPE JOHN PAUL II announced that Sister Faustina was to join the ranks
of SAINTS. On that same day, the Pope formally announced that the Sunday after Easter would henceforth be known
as Divine Mercy Sunday.
Again, this year, we will celebrate The Feast of Mercy with 2:00 PM English/Polish Confessions, 3:00 PM
bilingual Mass, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

Drodzy Parafianie,
trzem rodzajom sluzby jakimi sa modlitwa, post i jałmużna.
Modlitwa - W modlitwie zawsze musimy pamiętać, że Bóg mówi do nas w pierwszej kolejności. Czyni to, zarowno
wielkopostnych obietnic! Niektórzy z nas moze myślą: "Przeciez, to już trzeci tydzień Wielkiego Postu? " "To chyba
Tyskie!
jednego z 31 smakow lodow z Baskin-Robbins!
w przypadku promowania innych szczytnych celow. Mówię tu o chodzacych do Kosciola katolikach!
Modlitwa, post i jałmużna są naprawdę pytaniami o wiare. Wszystkie one mają być inspiracją do realizowania
miłości i miłosierdzia Bożego dla każdego z nas – dla tych, ktorzy sa godnymi i niegodnymi.
Niech ta wedrowka wielkopostna bedzie dla Was owocna i błogosławiona.
Ks. Mike Meany
