An Irish Blessing May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields and Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand. Emotional Wellness and Health What it must be like for people to feel as they do not matter. Imagine being in a crowded room and feeling invisible. Researchers long ago recognized that living life without feeling noticed or appreciated by oth‐ ers was one of the worst‐case scenarios for people of any age. Older people often indicate that they feel “invisible” and unappreciated. In a society that reveres youth and ridicules aging, it is human nature to assume aging leads only to failing capabilities and losses. As a result, many people overlook the upside and benefits of aging. Emotional Vitality To help enhance emotional wellness, older adults, need to understand the characteristics linked to “emotional vitality” discovered by researchers which include: “Feeling happy, enjoying life Having a purpose in life Feeling hope about the future Having a sense of self‐acceptance Having low measures of anxiety and depression” Study at the University of Cincinnati School of Nursing is still not finished. Emotional Vitality is not always possible given situations that have to be faced as we get older. However, there is help finding ones way back, COLD WEATHER SAFETY During this cold weather, we are all where enjoyment, purpose and self‐acceptance can be achieved. advised to check in on neighbors, As a step in the right direction, and a great opportunity to learn what is friends, and relatives -- especially the EMOTIONAL WELLNESS, please attend the elderly, since they are most likely to be WORKSHOP: EMOTIONAL WELLNESS AND HEALTH exposed to dangerous cold.
