NOVEMBER 2014 NEWSLETTER
Dear Stein Members:
It seems like déjà vu all over again! We have been talking about renovating the bathrooms for ages and now
the time has arrived. With it comes a lot of inconvenience and cancellations. The demolishing starts
Monday, Nov. 3. We will be closed for that whole week and will provide take home meals on Monday (2),
Wednesday (2) and Friday (1). The meals will be distributed downstairs in the building lobby between 11:45
and 12:45. The whole renovation project will take 4-5 weeks but we hope to be able to use part of our site
after the preliminary demolition is done. The Firefighters said we can use their bathrooms on the third floor.
Some of our activities will not be meeting due to lack of space or unsafe conditions during the renovations.
Still, we will have some special events which are listed in the newsletter. I apologize in advance for the
inconvenience, but it has been a problem since we moved in.
Our Thanksgiving dinner will be on Tuesday, Nov. 25 and tickets are available now. We will be closed Thursday
and Friday, Nov. 27 and 28th.
On December 9th, we are having a “Holiday Fair” which will run from approximately 1:00pm to 6:00pm. There
will be gorgeous items made by our virtuoso knitting class; jewelry a la Bob Phillipson as well as; a silent
auction of original art; gift baskets (some for men, some for women); dinner for two at local restaurants,
manicures, massages and many other prizes to win. Please help us make our fundraiser a huge success.
We are pleased to announce that we will be starting a book club in January. This will be led by Chastity
Moreno from the Epiphany Library. Many members have inquired about starting a book club, so we are very
excited to present this. Also check out the book sale that is open every other Wednesday. It’s one of the best
deals in town with a wide variety of titles and low prices run by Pat and Florence.
We are still filling in our “Tree of Life” which celebrates the lives of our loved ones. Prices range from $250 for
a leaf to $750 for a rock.
Our Senior Chorus is coming along nicely and will perform for us on Tuesday Nov. 18 at 1:15pm. The new
yoga class is also going well with a full class doing floor work. The teacher, Babette Becker has developed a
program especially for seniors that helps them with balance and strength and allows for de-stressing. Though
the yoga class will not be held during November renovations, it will resume on December 16th. We are also
adding another exercise class with Barbara once January arrives due to popular demand. Of course, Bob
Smith with Shakespeare and Jim Furlong with Opera Appreciation will continue to educate and delight us.
Please check out our Theater Desk so ably manned by our fantastic volunteers. There are some great tickets
to be had. This is only the tip of the iceberg!
Sincerely, Jane Barry and our wonderful Stein Staff.
