News and Information for Employees, Friends and Family of Jefferson Hospital Message from the CEO Employee Meetings: Dialogue and Updates Our Employee Meetings held last week were both informative and insightful. We had some great presentations from our speakers and some thoughtful questions and suggestions from our employees. If you were unable to attend any of the four sessions, here is recap of some of the important issues that were discussed: Chong Park, MD, Chief Medical Officer; James Rohrbaugh, Vice President, Finance, and I discussed our Focus Five business and operations plan (Quality and Safety, Customer Service, Growth and Access, Financial Stability and People) and how important these imperatives will be to our goals of delivering cost-effective, high quality care. James Rohrbaugh elaborated on the importance of providing excellent customer service and spreading the word about our programs and services to our neighbors and friends. Major initiatives are underway to improve ED throughput and length-of-stay. Bariatric and General Surgeon Tunc Aksehirli, MD, discussed Jefferson’s bariatric program. Attendance at monthly seminars and support group has increased substantially and the program is growing. Dr. Aksehirli noted that several hospital departments, including Rehab and Radiology, and our dietitians have been a big help to the bariatric program and he thanked them for their support. Joy Peters, Vice President Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer, reported on the growth of our Women and Infants Center, where we had 63 births in February and 158 babies born since the OB Unit opened in November. Nicole Polen, Benefits Analyst, talked about the AGH Apothecary, where Jefferson employees can have prescriptions filled and mailed to Jefferson Hospital inpatient pharmacy for pickup. Details on this convenient service are available in the Employee Benefits section of our Intranet. Renee Holtzman, Director, Human Resources, reminded employees to submit suggestions via the Suggestion Portal on the Intranet. Comments and ideas are welcome and several suggestions have resulted in hospital improvements. You’ll be hearing more about all of these important topics in future department meetings, daily huddles and this employee newsletter. Thank you to everyone who made a special effort during your busy work day to attend one of these employee meetings and to offer your thoughts and suggestions. They are appreciated.
