Project Introduction: • The roots of the D-Fantastica project are inspired by the desire to get a more efficient and powerful hull. • Using all the most recent CAD design solutions for the hull design and 3D aerospace and automotive technologies for the production of tools, both connected through knowledge and skills of Devoti Sailing team resulted in D-Fantastica. • Much progress lies in a near perfect shape and symmetric hull but also in the internal structures. Objectives : • To design a new hull shape to improve performance • To create a full 3D model and enhance the construction techniques. Process: • Analyse of the Rules • Analyse of Devoti existing hull shape winning all possible podium places within more then last decade • It was realized that the Rules allow for a bigger margin of improvement than anticipated • Played with several shapes within the scope of the Rules, decided to focus on the reduction of volume in the middle and get the straighter possible lines at the back of the hull • With a complete hull shape started consultancy with all the team to decide final version • Then was created a full 3D model around the new hull which incorporated also some changes in the cockpit and deck Summary: • Measurement by digital templates applied on the new hull • Curvature analysis of the final shape • Completing of the final 3D model ready to produce new tooling
