For this reason, the following admission standards are currently enforced. Member etiquette applies to all age groups. Swim Test Standard To successfully complete the facility swim test, individuals must: 1. Swim 25 meters from shallow end to deep end along a wall without stopping or touching the wall or bottom 2. Jump into the deep water from side of pool 3. Surface from jump and return to the wall While swimming 25 meters, the child must: * Complete the entire distance * Swim continuously * Not touch the bottom or stop and rest While jumping into the deep water from side of pool, the child must: * Jump into deep water from side of pool * Jump away from the side with comfort * Surface from jump and swim to side POOL COURTESY The YMCA is a shared experience for everyone to enjoy. Each of us can make it better for all by being considerate of others. YMCA members, volunteers and staff all pledge to treat one another with respect and dignity. Please remember our core values of Caring, Honesty, Inclusiveness, Respect and Responsibility. 1. Everyone must follow our Pool Admission Standards 2. Scheduled programs will always take priority 3. Help us keep the pool area clean and enjoyable for all: Please remember to shower before entering or re-entering the pool area. Please remove outdoor footwear before entering the pool area. Food and beverages (except water) are not permitted on the pool deck—water in plastic containers only Children who are not toilet-trained must wear waterproof swim diapers Appropriate swimwear only—shoes, cut-off jeans, and street clothes are not to be worn in the pool. 4. When lane swimming: Please choose your swimming lane according to the speed indicated on the signs at the deep end of each lane and the speed of the swimmers in the lane. If, during your swim, you find yourself faster or slower than most others in your lane, change lanes accordingly. When more than one swimmer is in a lane, circle swimming must occur. Please swim in a counter-clockwise circle. Allow for a 10 second interval between you and the person ahead before you start your swim. When entering a lane with a swimmer in it, please wait and ensure that the swimmer is aware you are entering the lane. When circle swimming, the faster swimmer should go first. This is difficult to figure out unless you always swim with the same people. If you’ve started out on your length, and you know the swimmer behind you is coming fast, stop at the end of your length and let him or her pass. Wait 5 seconds, then start off again. Remember that if the roles were reversed, you would want that swimmer to let you pass. For your safety, continuous swimming is required in the medium and fast lanes.
