PRAYER MINISTRY FOLLOWING THE MORNING SERVICE
Members of the Church’s Prayer Ministry Team are available in the Prayer Chapel
following morning worship for anyone who would like people to pray for them.
Prayer is available to everyone whether you are a church member or not.
Our prayer ministry team are trained individuals under the authority of our
ministers and all matters are treated in strictest confidence.
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything
according to his will, he hears us." (1 John 5:14).
SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER at 10am
There will be an opportunity for anyone to join for a brief time of praying for the
work of our church, our services and ministry of the church at 10.00am every
Sunday morning in Wilson House.
This will be led by Rev Michael Anderson and everyone is very welcome.

Sunday Night Live starts at 7.00pm and Michael Anderson will continue the new
series “Jesus’ Final Week”. Tonight Michael will preach on the topic “Tuesday –
Jesus on the Mount of Olives”.
Sunday 22nd March
Sunday Morning Prayer led by Michael Anderson starts at 10.00am in Wilson
House to pray for the work of our church, our services and ministry of
Fisherwick. Everyone is welcome
Sunday Morning Worship including the Congregational AGM starts at
11.00am and Michael Anderson will continue our “Back to Basics” series by
preaching on the topic “How does God guide us?”.
Sunday Night Live starts at 7.00pm and Gary McDowell will continue the new
series “Jesus’ Final Week”. Tonight Gary will preach on the topic “Thursday – the
last supper, Jesus’ betrayal and arrest”.

Service next Sunday.

The Presbyterian Historical Society AGM and Lecture will be held in May
Street Presbyterian Church on Thursday 19th March starting at 7.15pm (AGM),
Lecture (8.00pm). The lecture on “Early Historians of Irish Presbyterianism” will be
given by Dr Robert Armstrong. Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be
provided.
Friday 20th March
The Friday Morning Congregational Prayer Meeting starts at 7.30am in Wilson
House, which is open to everyone to attend. The prayer meeting will finish at
8.15am, however if you have to leave earlier that is fine.
ORGAN RECITAL – Friday 20th March
An Organ Recital by James O'Donnell, Organist at Westminster Abbey will be
held in St Brigid's Church, Windsor Avenue, Belfast on Friday 20th March 2015 at
7.30pm, Everyone is Welcome and there will be a retiring collection. James
O’Donnell is Organist and Master of the Choristers of Westminster Abbey.
Internationally recognised as a conductor and organ recitalist, he has given
concerts all over the world, including the United States, Japan, Australia, New
Zealand, and throughout Europe, and appeared as organ soloist in the BBC
Proms and at many other festivals. His responsibilities have recently included
directing the music for the Wedding of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in
April 2011 and the recent memorial services for Nelson Mandela and Sir John
Tavener.

ARKLOW UPDATE
Following Union Commission’s granting of a leave to call, please continue to pray
for Arklow as they start the process of consultation with candidates and that God
will direct the Convenor, Clerk, Kirk Session and Congregation to the right person,
with the right gifts, at the right the time.
MISSION OVERSEAS
From MISSION OVERSEAS PRAYERLINE
BRAZIL
During the rest of March, and in April and May, Naomi Keefe will be leading
various training sessions with the adult Sunday school teachers of Peixinhos on
how to teach the Bible to adults and to lead Bible Studies within the local
community. The congregation Camocim is planning a three-day evangelistic
event for children, and is also planning training sessions for the volunteers of the
project, which now has around 120 children attending.
• Pray that Naomi will be given wisdom and guidance in the preparation and
delivery of these sessions over the next couple of months.
PORTUGAL
James and Heather Cochrane and their colleagues continue to work on different
ideas as to how to use the building the project is now renting. Ideas include
‘Carers and Tots,’ events for teenagers, film nights, English classes, team
meetings, a drop in spot for coffee and a chat, and curiosity groups for those who
have questions about faith or Christianity.
• Pray that many of the ideas would become a reality, enabling them to reach
out to the community in meaningful ways.
ROMANIA
Ilona Veres reports that the literacy programme in Mera resumed in February with
six Roma women attending regularly, three of whom never attended school. The
building work at the Mission Centre in Mera continues with the extension of the
barn to provide more space for classrooms and also a workshop room for the
parents. If everything goes according to plan the work should be finished by May.
• Pray that as the women are taught to read and write there would also be open
doors to speak of the love of Christ and share personal testimony.
• Pray for Ilona and Ildi as they teach and build relationships with the women.
• Pray for the building work to progress well.
SYRIA
This weekend marks the fourth anniversary of the start of the conflict in
Syria. Since March 2011, around 220,000 people have been killed and around
one million injured. Out of the pre-war population of 23 million people, an
estimated 13 million Syrians are now in need of humanitarian assistance, over
seven million people are internally displaced and over three million people are
living as refugees outside of Syria.
• Pray for the people of Syria who continue to live in fear. Remember those
who have lost loved ones, those who have been injured, and those who have
fled their homes.
• Pray for all those in need of humanitarian assistance that they will get the help
they require, and pray for safety for all involved in providing aid.
• Pray for our partner the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon
(NESSL). Pray for its leaders and pastors as they seek to minister to their
congregations during such a difficult time. Pray that the leaders and members
will remain strong in their faith and receive humanitarian assistance as
needed.
• Pray too for all efforts to bring an end to the conflict.
KENYA
Naomi Leremore continues working with a team writing a series of eight books for
those involved in children’s ministry and wishing to study for a new Theological
Education by Extension (TEE) diploma in Children’s Ministry.
• Pray that they will be able to write in a way that will be understood.
• Pray that they will have the time and resources required to finish the books.
• Pray that the team spirit will continue to be embraced as they complete the
remaining books.
• Pray that the books will be accepted in churches and by individuals and they
will impact many lives.
Stephen Cowan writes, “The wind over the past few days has been really strong,
and has damaged roofs in the village of Tuum, including a house in the PCEA
compound. The wind also dries out the land and trees lose their leaves. There
are still plans to assist some people to sell animals, but more planning is required
to make the trip cost effective. The vehicle which the garage team has been refabricating has to be delivered this week, then our practical focus will turn to
roofing the building at Seren, and now repairing one side of a roof in the
compound.”
• Pray for the Christian witness to the garage workers, and also with those who
are involved in building projects.
• Pray for the preparations for the April youth camps.
• Pray for good relations between communities as the threat of cattle rustling
looms again.
MALAWI
This month, David McCullagh is planning a programme for staff training in
April. He and Amon Chanika (Director of Scripture Union in Malawi) will also
make trips to Blantyre, Mzuzu and Kande to meet staff and see how the ministry is
going in these areas.
• Pray for David as he plans staff training, and pray that David and Amon will
have encouraging and safe visits to Blantyre, Mzuzu and Kande.
• Pray for Pamela McCullagh as she develops friendships with Malawian and
expatriate women in Lilongwe.
Lyn Dowds reports that the David Gordon Memorial Hospital in Livingstonia
remains very busy – most wards have been full over the past few months. The
hospital still suffers from a shortage of staff and drugs. Johnny Dowds continues
to work hard with the girls in home schooling. They cover a number of topics each
day including maths, English and humanities. They are now preparing for their
entrance exams for boarding school and will be travelling with Johnny there later
in March.
• Pray for the ongoing work and witness of the hospital.
• Pray for additional staff at the hospital and for the supply of drugs to improve.
• Pray for the Dowds’ two children as they begin their preparations for boarding
school.
Debbie Thompson from Badoney, Corrick and Glenelly Presbyterian
congregations and her friend Laura Howells from England traveled to Malawi on
Thursday. As part of their student-nurse training (Cardiff University) they are to
spend a one-month elective at the David Gordon Memorial Hospital, Livingstonia.
• Pray for good health, safety and successful travel arrangements.
• Pray that Debbie and Laura would be good witnesses for Jesus to everyone
they meet and interact with.
• Pray that they might learn much about medical mission in a developing
country.
Students at the Ekwendeni campus of the University of Livingstonia went on strike
last week due to catering problems and the net result was a week of lost
classes. Matt Williams, who works in Faculty of Theology, reports that thankfully
the situation has now been resolved amicably.
• Pray for better relationships at all levels within the campus and with university
management.
• Pray that learning will not be disrupted again and that the catering issue is
now resolved permanently.
NEPAL
United Mission to Nepal (UMN) is due to have their property dispute heard at the
Supreme Court on Monday (16th) in Kathmandu. There is the possibility that it
will be postponed again.

Pray for wisdom and guidance for UMN staff as they prepare for the court
case.
Pray that God’s will be done in this situation and that His name will be glorified.
GLOBAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT – This year, Presbyterian Global
Mission through the Leadership Development Committee is supporting the
following ‘Leaders in Training’ from overseas:Rev Maqsood Kamil, from the Presbyterian Church of Pakistan, studying for a
PhD at the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies.
Rev Jorum Mugari, from City Presbyterian Church in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe,
studying for a PhD at Union Theological College (UTC), Belfast.
Rev Elyse McCroskery, from the Evangelical Christian Church in Timor,
undertaking post-graduate studies in New Testament at UTC.
Rev Eric Muchina Njuru, from the Presbyterian Church of East Africa, Kenya,
studying for a PhD at UTC.
Rev Edit Moldván from the Hungarian Reformed Church in Hungary, undertaking
one year of research in Old Testament at UTC.

Give thanks that we can assist our overseas partners in the development of
key leaders.
Pray for each student and that their studies will go well.
Pray too that their studies will be a benefit and blessing to their churches and
countries when they return home.
WYCLIFFE BIBLE TRANSLATORS – John Hamilton of Wycliffe Bible Translators
thanks those who prayed for Wycliffe’s ‘First Steps’ event held last month. They
were delighted that 15 people came to find out more about the place of Bible
translation in God’s mission.
• Pray for staff in the Belfast office as they follow up with these people.
The Caucasus Mountains that divide Europe and Asia are a difficult area and
information about the work is sensitive.
• Pray for visas and work permits for Wycliffe workers.
• Pray for guidance, wisdom and creativity as teams plan Scripture engagement
strategies.
• Pray for expansion of the work into language communities of the North
Caucasus; pray for open doors, contacts and more workers to begin language
assessment work there.
• Pray for new workers who have joined the team as they transition into life and
work in the Caucasus.

Pray for God’s blessing and protection over workers, their families and their
local partners.

service at 12.30pm there will be a short meeting
of all those interested.
You can come along and find out details of what
is involved.
(we need people to help with all sorts of tasks, from putting out
chairs and filling cups with juice, to being involved in dramas,
games and worship)
For those with children we will have leaders who
will look after them while the meeting takes
place.
Over the next couple of weeks pray about your
