2 p.m. – Tasting and judging

CONTEST RULES

Contestants must be West Virginia residents
k
Recipe must be submitted on a 3” x 5” index card
k
Each exhibitor may submit one entry in each category –
pound cake and cupcake.

Entries will be assigned numbers and judging will take
place before the entrant’s name is identified.
Judging criteria:
100 points
Taste/Flavor ......................................30
Overall Appearance ...........................25
Consistency (size, shape)...................15
Moistness and crumb ........................20
Creativity ............................................10
OPEN ALL AGES
Youth (15 years-old and under)
Youth may enter both age groups
Pound cake must be submitted in a disposable loaf pan.
Cupcakes must be submitted in paper cup liners.
Entrants must submit six cupcakes.

Division of Culture and History is not responsible for
returning pans to contestants.
k
Entries that must be refrigerated will not be accepted.
k
Entries must be original recipes made from scratch. No
prepared-mixes allowed. Judges will disqualify previously published recipes such as, but not limited to, those
in cookbooks and in magazines, from food companies,
on food websites and cooking-contest winners, unless
the recipe features changes considered significant by
the judges.

Creativity is essential. This contest is not limited to traditional cupcake and pound cake flavors. Judges will
look for a variety of fillings and textures.

To process monetary awards quickly, winners must complete a standard W-9 form, an invoice form, and
supply the Division of Culture and History with Social Security numbers.
• Youth winners must have their own Social
Security numbers and be accompanied by a
parent when completing the forms. Parents’
Social Security numbers are not acceptable.
• Winners will receive award checks in the mail
within three weeks of Vandalia Gathering as long as all paper work is completed by Saturday, May 24.
Cupcakes and Pound Cakes become the property of the Division of Culture and History and will be offered
as prizes in the cake walkin the Great Hall at 3:30 p.m. All are welcome to join the dancing.
