Special Notice and Reminder regarding
Friendship Exchange to Russia, May, 2015
The Rotary International US-Russian Intercountry Committee has
organized a Friendship Exchange with the Russian districts for May,
2015. It is still possible for District 5690 to send one or two participants,
but anyone wishing to participate should act immediately because of the
time necessary to procure visas. The current itinerary contemplates
departing the US for Moscow on May 6, arriving in Moscow on May 7.
Commencing May 8, the itinerary generally is fly from Moscow to
Simferopol in Crimea on May 8. May 10 go to Krasnodar; May 13, go to
Rostov on Don; May 16 to Volgograd; May 19, fly to Moscow; May 22 fly
or express train to St. Petersburg (the express train is about 4 hours);
then May 24 fly home from St. Petersburg. Victory Day, May 9, is always
a major observance in Russia, and there is a war memorial being
rededicated or restored in Simferopol. At the end of the visit, in St.
Petersburg, the delegation will attend the District Conference for D2220,
Western Russia. Estimated cost is $4000 per person. For more
information, contact Kurt Harper, at 316-267-1281 or 316-371-0796; or

WSU ATHLETES SPEAK TO SCHOOLS
President Tony arranged for athletes from WSU to speak at an assembly
for 3rd – 5th graders at Benton & Lawrence Elementary schools last
Friday. He received this note and pictures from the WSU contact:
Thank you for your effort arranging for the student athletes to speak at
Lawrence and Benton Elementary Schools last Friday. The students
really liked being a part of the afternoon. I think everything went
smoothly, the teachers and staff at both schools were all very
accommodating and supportive.

evening and it is never too early to start collecting items.

[email protected] if you have ideas for
auction items or items to donate.
Our annual Wine Dinner is our signature fundraising event.
Your generous contributions to the club and to the West
Wichita Charitable Foundation over the last two years
allowed us to increase our support of existing programs and
take on new ones. We’re expanding the number of $1,000
college scholarships from two to three this year. We’ll
purchase groceries for at least forty-four needy families
from Lawrence and Benton elementary schools during this
school year. We’re continuing our support of literacy
programs at Lawrence and are expanding them at Benton.
Thank you for your service to others through Rotary. Your
participation and investment makes a difference to those in
need!
I have updated and rearranged the badges
on our Paul Harris Fellow banner to make
room for more! The badges on this banner
include all who became PHF’s through our
club over the years. We are currently
around $5,300 towards our goal of $6,500
in Foundation donations for this Rotary
year. Be sure to check Jack’s Foundation
thermometer poster at the meeting. Don’t
forget ~ everyone who contributes $100
this year will receive a chance in a drawing
to stay at Roger Bowles’ cabin in Colorado!
