The objective of the proponents is to try to pass legislation permitting physician-assisted suicide this year, but failing that, to forward a Voter Initiative to the public in 2016. This would make California the fourth state permitting physician-assisted suicide without approval by a court. Bishop Vann is asking for your help. Would you please seriously consider working against this legislation by contacting your state senators and legislators. Would you please go to the California Conference Website – www.cacatholic.org -click on the red icon which says, “Urge a ‘No’ Vote on Assisted Suicide” – and simply follow the prompts. Let us pray and work together to help our culture understand the tragedy and danger this legislation presents to the vulnerable populations living within it. Page Three March 15, 2015 St. Vincent de Paul Church Easter Vigil Celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation Second Collection March 21-22 The Catholic Home Missions Appeal ….will take place next week. One way this appeal works to strengthen home mission dioceses in the United States is by funding seminarian formation in poor dioceses. The blessing of seminarians places a financial burden on these dioceses, where educating each seminarian costs $35-40K per year. Your support is needed for these young men so they might go back and serve their parishes. Please strengthen the Church at home by making a generous gift to next week’s appeal. NOTE: All contributions placed in the first collection basket will be for parish expenses. All contributions in the second collection, taken up after Communion, will be for the Catholic Home Missions Appeal. Please place your donations accordingly. At the Easter Vigil Mass each year, we celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation with those who have been participating in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults process (RCIA). This year, we have 9 catechumens who will receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist: Maria del Carmen Arteaga, Jennifer Duong, Yovany Eumaña, Don Johnson, Dan Lawrence, Edward Montalvo, Edwin Montalvo, Fernando Rodriguez and Maria Rodriguez. We also have two candidates: Julie Enright and Lawrence Wulterin. They have already been baptized in other Christian faith tradition and are preparing for Reception into the Full Communion of the Catholic Church. These candidates will receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. Please keep them in your prayers during these final days of preparation, and please come celebrate with us as they receive the Sacraments of Initiation at our Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday, April 4 at 7:45 PM. Stations of the Cross & Lenten Dinners Set aside your Friday evenings during Lent for some time of prayer and food. Join us in the church at 6:30 PM for Stations of the Cross. A meatless dinner will be provided by a different ministry in the Parish Hall immediately following. Beverages will be provided. A suggested donation for the meal is $4 for adults and $2 for children.
