many acres held in reserve for future
park expansion and flood control.

fountains, pavilion rental and general
day-to-day operating conveniences is

TRAILS
Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation
maintains a variety of hard surface and
crushed limestone recreational trails.
The Cedar River Trail and Cedar Lake
Loop Trail are hard surface and are
kept open throughout the year. The
crushed limestone trails are not cleared
in the winter. If you make a complete
tour of all the park trails, you will
travel over 24 miles.
Cherokee Trail
This 1 mile trail is located off Johnson
Avenue between Edgewood Road and
Wiley Boulevard NW. Parking is along
Midway Drive on the trail’s north side.
A meandering path lined with bur
oak trees makes this one of our most
popular crushed limestone trails.
Cherry Hill Trail
This crushed limestone trail is .825
miles long. It is located on the west
end of Cherry Hill Park on the City’s
NW side. Ample parking exists off
Stoney Point Road. A playground, two
softball fields and the Cherry Hill Park
pavilion are adjacent to the trail.
Noelridge Park Trail
One of the oldest trails in the park
system, this popular trail is located in
Noelridge Park on the City’s NE side.
The trail is .8 miles long. This crushed
limestone trail is best accessed off
Council Street between Collins Road

The trail runs through Nixon Park and
around Nixon School near Hiawatha
on the City’s NE side.

around the 65 acre lake offering
excellent views for hikers, walkers,
bicyclists, and bird watchers. Prairie
Park Fishery is located at 2125 Otis
Road SE. It is open year-round, seven
days per week from 6:00am-dusk (½
hour after sunset) when the gates are
locked.
Sac and Fox Trail
This is the oldest National Recreation
Trail in Iowa. It is 7.2 miles in length
and is crushed limestone. The trail
follows the Cedar River and Indian
Creek on the SE side of Cedar Rapids.
There are numerous access points
along the trail and abundant
parking areas, especially south of
Mount Vernon Road.
Cedar River Trail
This all-weather trail extends from
Blairs Ferry Road NE through downtown Cedar Rapids to 76th Avenue
SW where it becomes the Hoover
Trail. The Cedar River Trail is 12.6
miles long and is 10 feet wide. Native
grasses and wildflowers have been
established along sections of the trail
and offer vivid floral displays of native
Iowa prairie. Parking for the Cedar
River Trail is located at Tait Cummins
Park on C Street SW, Werner Avenue,
and McLoud Run Place on the NE side
of Cedar Rapids. Please keep bicycle
and roller blade speeds to a reasonable
level and practice good trail etiquette.
Cedar Lake Loop Trail

located on Shaver Road NE, south of
Interstate 380 at H Avenue NE. Three
