It is my pleasure to once again provide details of the upcoming
Annual Statewide Summit for Bilingual Parents. After being so successful
in past years, the conference will be held at the Hilton Chicago/Oak
Brook Hills Resort and Conference Center in Oak Brook, Illinois, from
9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015. Delegations consist
of up to ten participants, including council members, with no more than
two administrators or teachers responsible for working with the council.
The agenda this year includes important topics such as:
•Family engagement •Pre-K-12 educational programs and services •Postsecondary educational opportunities
•Immigrant and community issues
Scheduled speakers this year include Illinois Lieutenant Governor
Evelyn Sanguinetti; Eligio Pimentel, who is on the Illinois State Board of
Education (ISBE); Assistant Superintendent Reyna Hernández and Division
Administrator David G. Nieto, both from ISBE; and Lorena Mancilla from
the WIDA Consortium at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
I am confident that you will have access to great information that
can assist you in your responsibilities as parents and PAC members
and discover opportunities that will aid us all in working together on
behalf of bilingual students, their schools and their families. I urge you
to organize your delegation and register by Thursday, April 30, 2015.

• Roles and responsibilities of Bilingual Parent Advisory

• Leadership, advocacy and community relations

• Preparing, applying, and financing higher education
• Issues concerning adolescents
Intended Audience:
The Illinois State Board of Education will reimburse expenses
for up to ten individuals per school district maximum –
8 bilingual PAC members and 2 school representatives.

Important Notes:
Interpretation services for all keynote addresses and
concurrent sessions will be available as needed in English,
Spanish, Arabic Filipino, Gujarati, Mandarin, Polish, and Urdu.
The need for interpretation services must be indicated on the
registration form in the “I Speak/Understand” section.
No child care is available for the conference.
SCHEDULE OF THE DAY:
Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. Conference activities begin
at 9:00 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. with breakfast and lunch
provided. A special reception for all participants ends the day.

Cancellations/changes received
