EASTER SUNDAY
REFLECTION……………....…RISING FROM THE DEAD: REALLY?
Well now dear fellow explorers, where does this Easter time find us all? The Easter show is going off like a
rocket. We’ve celebrated a great Cricket World Cup Win. Our footy teams are up and running. The State
election is done and predictably dusted.
In our parish we have celebrated some beautiful funerals these past weeks. Both relationships and faith have
been refreshed. We’ve seen the generosity of our children and families in response to Project Compassion
and through them many will be nourished. We have had sixteen outstanding parishioners offer themselves
as candidates for membership of our Parish Pastoral Council. Our schools are bringing joy, learning and life
to so many families. We welcome new families to our parish community with great regularity and this is a
cause of real joy. We baptise like there’s no tomorrow and witness the wonder on the faces of brand-new
parents. We know people in their parenting who respond to ill-health, disabilities, learning or social difficulties
among their families with wisdom and courage. They allow these challenges and the sacrifices they demand
to bring out the best in themselves, to the point of heroism.
There is so much to be thankful for and so much that feeds our hope.
At the same time we have witnessed the German air disaster with its many tragic layers. The threat of execution hangs over two of our young people as well many others in many parts of the world. There is the ongoing public barbarity and persecution perpetrated by numerous fanatical groups, whose weapons are fear and
hatred.

We hear of our first Australians who wish to maintain to their way of life and their sacred lands, being referred
to as an economic burden because of their “lifestyle choices,” in order to mask what seems to be nothing
more than a giant land grab by the greedy who wish to exploit these sacred lands.

The ice epidemic that grips so many, especially our young people, following years of cocaine and heroin is
destroying lives once filled with hope. Our economic forces, internationally and at home, for all the generous
sounding rhetoric, are still geared to the advancement of the wealthy and the diminishment of the poor. Our
frail-aged are seen to be an unproductive inconvenience, and proposed legislation, wearing a mask of misguided compassion, is threatening to enshrine this in law.

We know the scourge of domestic violence here at home and hear reports of violence which clog our news
channels every day. We see children with special needs, whose cries may sometimes be met with denial,
embarrassment, or the anaesthetic of material comforts which we imagine will save us doing the hard yards
that the children really crave.
Jesus in his rising from the dead is not inviting us to sit around and cheer him on and then have a party. His
resurrection is a call to each one of us to listen out for that part of our world that is within reach and which we
can see is in need of repair and healing. Then with all our energy and resources, he calls us to work for the
rising from the dead of our broken, frightened, addicted and angry world.
None of us is exempt from this mission, once we have accepted our baptism into the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. For all the joy and gifts we share in our parish, our aim is not to create a sort of feel-good ghetto! Our purpose in every breath is the bringing forward of the Kingdom of God, which means we embrace the
Cross, knowing that we won’t stop sacrificing ourselves until our world really rises from the dead.
Our Alleluias will then resound as passionately as did our cheers when Australia took that first Kiwi wicket in
the World Cup Final!!

day with St Vincent de Paul.
Volunteer teens will act as mentors for disadvantaged youth
from Sydney by providing them
with a fun day of activities,
games and lunch.

Y-Factor is a camp for all high
school aged youth who want to
explore their faith in a very fun and
active environment. Y-Factor is run
by Catholic Youth Services - the

Open Day
Thanks to Marea De Angelis, our
Family Faith Educator and our
wonderful Mums, we followed Jesus’ journey to Calvary through
Mary’s eyes. One boy commented
afterwards, “Jesus was a real man
wasn’t he.” It was a most moving

was a great success. The
College was alive with displays, performances and
tours and was enjoyed by all.
We are very blessed to have
such a wonderful community.

Loving God,
you are the home for our hearts’ deepest longings.
