Earth Day Textile Recycling Event Earth Day is Wednesday April 22. The Madison County Landfill will host a county-wide textile recycling event to celebrate. Textiles will be collected at ten sites throughout the county making it easy for residents to recycle their textiles. Any textile item, even if it’s worn, torn or stained can be recycled as long as it is clean or dry. “There is a misconception that textiles must be in wearable condition to be donated,” said Mary Bartlett, Recycling Coordinator at the Madison County Landfill. “Actually, textiles can be recycled even if they are not in condition for resale.” However, rugs, carpeting and bed pillows will not be accepted. Now residing in Utica, Tony Thompson was born in Lynchburg, VA, and raised in Syracuse. The classroom in his early years was a source of anxiety, and to escape this discomfort, he began to draw. Drawing became a way to express thoughts and feelings that could not find their way into words. On his way to school every day, he passed graffiti and artwork created by the Syracuse street artists scene. Its influence eventually found its way into his drawings. Today his work usually involves combinations of screenprinting, spray paint, and paint marker. The early influences and themes of his work can be seen in his surreal urban imagery, which often contains spray paint cans and caps as a totem of respect for his background in graffiti – a reminder of the path less chosen that worked for him. Relatively new to the gallery scene, Thompson is a young man on the cutting edge of artistic expression, someone very aware of his journey and its context, whose art pays homage to that path and others still traveling it. Israel: The Enemy Of My Enemy Is My Friend March 6, 2015: As Egypt prepares to face the growing ISIL threat in Libya it is withdrawing some special operations forces from Sinai. Israel fears this will reduce the pressure the Egyptians have exerted on Sinai based Islamic terrorists. Israel has been impressed with the Egyptian counter-terror campaign in Sinai, which has, for the moment, eliminated the threat of Islamic terrorist attacks on Israel from Sinai. Egypt recently reported that 172 Islamic terrorists had been killed in Sinai during February. Another 229 suspects were arrested and 85 Islamic terrorist locations were raided. All this activity was in reaction to January 29th when ISIL made four attacks in Sinai that left at 33 dead and 90 wounded. Most of the victims were soldiers and police. In part these attacks were to show that the Islamic terrorists were still present and dangerous. But not as dangerous as the used to be or could have been, The 18 month old Egyptian counter-terrorism campaign in Sinai has left over 1,500 Islamic terrorists dead and several thousand arrested. About 500 soldiers and police have died as well.. Then it would seem more natural to Uncle Henry and Aunt Em.” “No; they shall first see me in my Throne Room,” replied Ozma, decidedly; and when she spoke in that tone Dorothy knew it was not wise to oppose her, for Ozma was accustomed to having her own way. And what does it all mean, anyhow?” Dorothy laughed. “Why didn’t you tell us what you were goin’ to do?” inquired Uncle Henry, reproachfully. “If I’d known about it, I’d ‘a put on my Sunday clothes.” “I’ll ‘splain ever’thing as soon as we get to your rooms,” promised Dorothy. “You’re in great luck, Uncle Henry and Aunt Em; an’ so am I! And oh! I’m so happy to have got you here, at last!” As he walked by the little girl’s side, Uncle Henry stroked his whiskers thoughtfully. “’Pears to me, Dorothy, we won’t make bang-up fairies,” he remarked.
