Gear Reduction Starter
In 1962, Chrysler Corporation introduced a starter
system incorporating a “geartrain” between the
motor and the driveshaft. The motor shaft has
integrally-cut gear teeth forming a drive gear
which mesh with a larger adjacent driven gear to
provide a gear reduction ratio of 3.75:1. This
permits the use of a higher-speed, lower-current,
lighter and more compact motor assembly while
increasing cranking torque.
Gear Reduction technology designed specifically
for diesel engines, delivers the high torque output
and starting power even in severe conditions and
low voltages.
Causes and Solutions
Gear Reduction starter motors provide solutions to
the primary causes of starting system malfunction.
Low Battery
A battery having a low / poor state of charge will
place abnormal stresses on the starting system.

Excessive Vibration
When starting system components are poorly or loosely mounted to the vehicle’s engine, the resulting vibration can damage sensitive internal components.
The Titan™ evolutionary design withstands high vibration levels, providing high durability and endurance.
Adverse Weather Conditions
A starter motor can become damaged if it operates too long at high temperatures. Excessive heat is generally due to continuous engagement of the starter.
Damage to starting system components can occur when the starter motor is cranked for long periods (often due to cold weather starts)
Corrosion, Dirt and Dust
Starting system components operate less efficiently when corrosion forms or dirt particles build up.
Sparex’s Gear Reduction Starter series starts from minimum of 2.7kW to 5.0 kW for today’s demanding medium and heavy duty applications.
