Charity Cycling Fun day for Families and Friends in 2015 The next Three Counties Cycle Ride is to be held on Sunday 7th June 2015 and will start and finish from Garth Hill College. You, your family and friends are invited to help us to raise lots of money for important local charities by participating in our Berkshire - Oxfordshire - Buckinghamshire counties cycle ride. There are three picturesque routes - 50 miles for regular, experienced riders, a shorter route of 33 miles and a new very short route of 15 miles ideal for families with young children all starting and finishing at Garth Hill College. We are encouraging you to enter on-line this year using our website at www.3ccr.org but if you can not enter online you can enter by post or by phoning this number 07748701346. The entry fee is £16.00 for adults (16 or older) and £9.00 for “young people” under the age of 16 and includes a T-shirt, providing you enrol on or before the 25th of May. T-shirt collection will be near the enrolment area and we hope you will wear it on the ride. Last electronic entries must be sent no later than Friday 5th June 2015. Late entries received by post in the week starting the 1st of June will be processed, however, rider number and start times will be supplied at check in. Entrance fee per rider on the day of the event is £19.00 for adults (16 or older) and is £9.00 for “young people” under the age of 16. The entry fee covers the cost of a certificate, medal, printing and other expenses incurred and a souvenir Tshirt providing you have enrolled on or before the 25th May. It is not intended to be passed to our nominated charities. In addition to all the members of the Rotary Club of Bracknell, who work throughout the year to organise the Three Counties Cycle Ride, there is a small army of other volunteers who give their time and labour to ensure the success of the event on the day of the ride. These volunteers include members of the public, the supporters of many of the charities who benefit from the sponsorship money and members of other Rotary clubs from all over Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. There are a great many tasks to be done on the day of the event. Fifteen stewards man the check-in and check-out, including partners of Rotarians. More than eighty stewards will man every significant road junction on the three cycle routes, including members of: Boys Brigade, Girl Guiding S.E. Division, The Probus Club of Bracknell, The Rotary Club of Marlow Thames, The Rotary Club of Easthampstead,The Rotary Club of Crowthorne & Sandhurst. Our three check points, where refreshments will be available, are manned by the Parent Teacher st Association of Wildridings Primary School, Bracknell Alzheimers Support Group and the 1 Embrook Scouts. First Aid The organisers will arrange for trained First Aid services to be available through the British Red Cross, ready to help any rider who may suffer a minor injury, or become ill, whilst taking part in the Three Counties Cycle Ride. The important bit about getting sponsored Having to cycle 50, 33 or even 15 miles is not the hardest part of the event. The task of finding sponsors, and later collecting the sponsorship money is the hard bit; but this is also the most important part. Do ask your colleagues at work, and your friends, as well as your employers and other firms and pubs in your area, to sponsor you. Offer to wear some form of identification to advertise the identity of your commercial sponsors. Tell your sponsors how far you will ride, and ensure they complete name, first line of their address, post code and the amount they will donate on your sponsorship form. If they tick the box, make sure that their full name, first line of their address, and their post code is shown on the form. 3ccr 2015 Full Details v1 Page 2 of 11 On the Day The first riders will depart from Garth Hill College at around 08:00. The latest starting time possible is at 09:30. The route will be fully signposted, and there will be marshals at all important junctions. Along the routes there are checkpoints where you can obtain refreshments. If you experience any problems with your cycle, or you become unwell, or injured, the route will be patrolled by stewards with mobile telephone communications. There are also communication links at our checkpoints. The British Red Cross will be in attendance. Meadvale Bays Cycle Repair Mechanic and the TradeMark Window Van will be on the route. Toilets may not be available at all checkpoints. Check in Procedure Follow the signs to the check-in point. Here Check in on the day. you can collect your T-shirt and Bike Ride Label. Cars can be parked in the car park in Garth Hill College. In the event of the College Car Park being full then you can park in any of the town’s car parks including Albert Road Car Park, which is nearest to the College, but please remember to pay the fee to avoid a penalty. Arrive at least 30 minutes before your start time, ready to check in 15 minutes before you are due to set off. At the finish At the finish in Garth Hill College, go to the check-in area where you will be given your medal, a drink and your certificate that shows that you have completed the course. If you have any queries concerning the procedure for paying your sponsorship money over to the Three Counties Cycle Ride please ask any of the organisers at the check-in and check-out points for guidance. Some important tips for those who enter We strongly recommend that you wear a cycle helmet Make sure that your bike is roadworthy - check the tyres and brakes. If you are not sure how to do this take your bike to a cycle shop. If you are not a regular cyclist, it is important that you ride your bicycle as much as possible during the weeks before the ride, to tune-up your muscles. Get a good night's sleep the night before the ride, and have a good breakfast before you come out on the day of the event. ON THE DAY: Bring some food to nibble; chocolate and fruit are a good idea. Note: drinks will be available at the three checkpoints. Ride at a leisurely pace. Enjoy the countryside and remember that this is not a race! Wear clothing - or reflective material - that will make you visible to motorists. Carry some cash with you, in case your bike breaks down. Our recovery vehicle can bring you and your bike back to the start point in the event of an emergency. Follow the Highway Code. Keep to the left, and beware of oncoming traffic.
