Comedy show to benefit
Veterans Assisting Veterans
at Mottolo Post VFW May 29
Crosby served his country
honorably, was wounded and
sacrificed his ability to walk.
He made a commitment to his
country. The veterans are not
going to wait for a government
bureaucrat to help him – VAV
board members have served
in different wars and conflicts;
as veterans, they know what
to do.

n Friday, May 29, at 7:00 p.m.,
Veterans Assisting Veterans
(VAV) will host a comedy show
fundraiser at the Mottolo Post
VFW at 10 Garafolo St. in Revere.
Proceeds of this event will go
to purchase a wheelchair lift for
James Crosby. The price of this
lift is approx $4,000.00
In 2004 Crosby, a Winthrop resident, went to Iraq as a United
States Marine to serve his country. Shortly after arriving in Iraq,
he was severely injured by shrapnel and was paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair.
In January 2014 VAV, a nonprofit group of veterans, raised
$17,000 and bought him a Trac
Chair. The Trac Chair is a highly
specialized wheelchair designed
to give people like Crosby freedoms they could only have prior to their injuries.
Crosby is extremely grateful
for the chair; he can now enjoy
all outdoor activities because of
it. The Trac Chair allows him to go
O
to the beach, visit the woods or
drive through snow. In addition,
with this new chair he’s able to
push a button and stand up to
look someone in the eye, which
is something he could never do
prior to his injury.
However, there’s a big challenge: Crosby needs someone
with him or he can’t use the chair
to go anywhere except near his
house. He’s able to drive the
chair up a ramp onto the back
of his pick-up truck, but because
he can’t walk he can’t get down
from the truck. Crosby appealed
to the VA Boston for a wheelchair
lift, but he was denied because
someone stated that the Trac
Chair is considered recreational. When members of VAV heard
this, they were outraged.
“How [can] giving someone
a somewhat normal life, a war
hero, be considered … recreational. Prior to James going to
war he had a normal life,” said
VAV President Dennis Moschella.
Attorney Flynn wins $3.4
Million for local developer
Attorney Peter E. Flynn, longtime resident of Everett, now practicing law and living in Saugus on May 11, 2015 obtained the largest
eminent domain settlement in the state. $3,400,000 was awarded
to local contractor Gregory T. Antonelli for 1.4 acres of land in Malden which will be the site of the new police station. Mr. Antonelli, a
prominent real estate developer and philanthropist, agreed to resolve the case after extensive negotiations. The City of Malden can
now quickly proceed with the much-needed new police station on
Eastern Avenue, avoiding delays, costs and a likely protracted litigation. Attorney Flynn has now achieved the state’s largest eminent
domain settlements in 2014 and 2015.
