Rufus Gifford
U.S. Ambassador
to the Kingdom of Denmark
6
On behalf of the U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen, I’d
like to offer my congratulations to AmCham on an
incredible year. I’m pleased that our partnership −
now enjoying its 16th year − has continued to grow,
supporting U.S. businesses and promoting Danish
investment into the U.S. Our work together not only
highlights the robust contributions of U.S. firms
to the Danish economy, but also the importance of
free trade in creating jobs, increasing growth, and
fostering innovation on both sides of the Atlantic.
I’ve enjoyed getting to know AmCham’s members
better this year. I’m consistently impressed by
their successes and innovations, which are making
an impact not only in Denmark, but globally. For
example, Bavarian Nordic is collaborating with
U.S. firm Johnson & Johnson on a promising Ebola
vaccine. I also have enjoyed learning more about
each AmCham’s member’s goals – and I am looking
for ways we can support them even more. For firms
doing business in Denmark, we want to enhance
the strong business framework here and support
U.S. investments in Danish high-skilled jobs and
innovation. For firms looking to the U.S., we want
to help support your expansion into our booming
market.
One way we have begun to do this is by ramping up
our “SelectUSA” initiative to facilitate more foreign
investment into the United States, offering a variety
of resources for Danish firms
looking to invest. We’ve also
supported two-way trade this
year through joint initiatives, such
as Green Partnerships for Growth
− together with DI and AmCham to facilitate sustainability.
I’m consistently impressed by
the strength of our bilateral
partnership. At $24 billion in
two-way trade, our trading
relationship is high-value and
significant. Already, the U.S. is
the third largest export market
for Danish goods and services
and U.S. investments in Denmark
remained strong, a recognition
of the favorable Danish business
framework here and commitment
to innovation that sets a global
standard.
Bolstering that impressive
trade outlook is the strength and
resilience of the U.S. economy.
U.S. businesses have created more
than 11 million new jobs, and seen
over 58 months of uninterrupted
job growth, the longest in our
history. We are experiencing
the best six-month period of
economic growth in over a decade.
And I’m even more excited about
2015. If you are a business and
are not seriously considering the
U.S. market, you are missing an
incredible opportunity.
Looking forward, we remain
strongly committed to the
transatlantic relationship. We
are negotiating the Transatlantic
Trade and Investment Partnership
(T-TIP), which seeks to set a
global “gold standard” for free
trade, openness, and growth. I
encourage you to turn to page 40
to learn more.
The U.S. Embassy in Denmark
will continue to promote
prosperity and growth in our two
countries. We remain a strong
partner of the AmCham and look
forward to our collaboration again
this year.

“In the coming year, we will
work together to further private
enterprise, global competitiveness,
and unrestricted trade and
investment between our nations”
8
Message from the Chairman
AmCham Denmark, under the leadership of Stephen Brugger
and the dedication of its capable staff, continues to make great
progress representing the interests of U.S. and International
companies in Denmark. This is especially evident as we look
back on 2014 – AmCham’s 15th anniversary - and the high level
access we achieved within the Danish Government, and the
value these opportunities provided to our members.
At the core of our mission is building a more competitive
business and investment climate in Denmark, one that
encourages investments and creates jobs. We aim to continue
the outreach and constructive dialogue we have established
with key decision makers, as a forum for getting your
industry’s challenges, heard in the political debate.
In the coming year, we will work together to further private
enterprise, global competitiveness, and unrestricted trade and
investment between our nations. There has never been a more
important time to have a strong collective voice speaking on
behalf of international business, and with your active support,
we will make great strides in 2015.
In closing, I would like to acknowledge the valuable
relationships we share with our many partners and extend
a special thanks to the U.S. Embassy and U.S. Ambassador
Gifford for their invaluable contributions. I am honored and
encouraged by the Ambassador’s commitment to further
develop economic and commercial relations between the U.S.
and Denmark.
Thanks also to my fellow board members, whose leadership
and engagement is a key factor in AmCham’s current and
future success. Finally, let me take this opportunity to thank
you, our members, for your continuing participation and
support.

“Those of you who participated in our October Anniversary Celebration
experience firsthand the journey that has made AmCham the vibrant
organization it is today – and what an active and satisfying journey!”
Message from the EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
10
In 2014 AmCham Denmark reached
a significant milestone, our
15th Anniversary. Those of you
who participated in our October
Anniversary Celebration experience
firsthand the journey that has
made AmCham the vibrant
organization it is today – and what
an active and satisfying journey!
Building on the momentum
from our first 15 years, AmCham
enters 2015 at full speed, with a
solid foundation for even greater
success, further enhancing our
unique position as the leading
voice of international business in
Denmark. As always, the AmCham
Team stands ready to assist you
and your management team
in identifying ways to enhance
the value of your company
membership.
In this edition of AmCham
Denmark’s Yearbook &
Membership Directory we
look back at 2014 and some of
AmCham’s key achievements. Our
efforts this past year took many
forms, including policy-driven meetings with key
ministers and political stakeholders; stimulating,
high-level networking events; and top notch
promotion and profiling opportunities for our
companies.
I hope you find this 2015 Yearbook & Membership
Directory to be an interesting and informative
resource for your business – and that you will
share it with others within your business network.
A special thanks to our fantastic sponsors for
making this year’s publication a reality.
On a personal note, I would like to take this
opportunity to acknowledge all of the warm,
working relationships we enjoy with our members,
and the valuable relationships we share with our
key partners and colleagues. These boost all our
efforts and are precisely why we look forward to
building on our progress year after year.
However, our success will continue to depend
in a high degree on your participation and the
input and support you provide to us; as well as
AmCham’s committed staff and engaged Board
of Directors, without the enthusiasm and drive of
which we would simply not be able to make the
progress AmCham continues to make each year.

Anniversary Dinner
19
The highlight of 2014 was
AmCham’s 15 Year Anniversary
Celebration. On October 29,
240 guests gathered at Moltkes
Palæ in Copenhagen for an
unforgettable black-tie dinner.
AmCham has come a long way
since its beginning in 1999, and this
celebration was a testament to
its broad support in the business
community and beyond. Special
guests included TRH The Crown
Prince and Princess of Denmark,
Finance Minister Bjarne Corydon,
and U.S. Ambassador Rufus
Gifford.
The energy was remarkable
throughout Moltkes Palæ’s as
sponsor Copenhagen Capacity’s
Claus Lønborg kicked off the
program, highlighting the strong
partnership between the two
organizations, before launching
AmCham’s 15th Anniversary video
(produced by Copenhagen Film
Company).
Event Sponsors:
AmCham’s Chairman Steve
Shillington (McDonald’s) was next,
praising the organization for what
it has achieved in its 15 years, and
explaining what the organization
has meant for him both personally
and professionally during his time
in Denmark.
AmCham’s own Stephen Brugger
then turned the discussion back
to the participants, AmCham’s
members. “Without the
engagement of you, our members,
we could not have achieved what
we have today,” he said.
During the evening, guests
enjoyed a delicious 3-course
American wine dinner, courtesy of
Chef & Sommelier Keld Johnsen,
AmericanWine.dk, and with the
help of Moltkes Palæ’s fine chefs
and staff.
Before the main course, Ambassador Gifford took
to the podium, and spoke enthusiastically about the
partnership between the Embassy and AmCham over
the years, as well as the great cooperation between
our two nations.
Minister Corydon gave a thoughtful speech on ‘Our
Common Goals’ – about the important work that
AmCham and the current government are doing to
keep Denmark competitive for business.
Following dinner, guests were treated to an amazing
performance by the talented pop star, Nabiha, who
charmed guests with a beautiful acoustic performance
of her hit songs. To conclude the evening’s program,
Ambassador Gifford announced Roche as the winner
of AmCham’s 2014 Foreign Company of the Year.
Guests rounded out the evening with coffee and
Oregon Creek Brandies, while enjoying lovely classical
piano music by Canadian concert pianist, Darlene
Popkey. Guests remained well into the night, talking
with friends old and new.
A truly unforgettable evening for all.

21
In 2014, AmCham’s strong
program of events once again
provided members with access to
key political and business figures.
In January, AmCham’s Patron
Members and their spouses
gathered at the annual patron
member New Year’s Dinner which
was hosted by U.S. Ambassador
Rufus Gifford and his partner,
Dr. Stephen DeVincent at their
private residence, Rydhave.
The event, which was cosponsored by Verizon and SAS
Institute, included special guest,
Finance Minister Bjarne Corydon,
who attended with his wife
Nina Eg Hansen. In the evening’s
brief program, Minister Corydon
expressed his ‘cautious optimism’
for the Danish economy, and
reflected on how the Danes
look to the U.S. for inspiration.
Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner
prepared by Rydhave Chef Brian
Skjold, and American wine pairing
courtesy of Nemlig.com.
In February, AmCham hosted a
Meet the Leaders session with
Danish Minister of Defense
Nicolai Wammen, who shared
his views on today’s security
challenges, as well as his priorities
for the Danish military. More
than 60 AmCham Denmark
members and defense industry
representatives were on hand for
the discussion, which was hosted
by the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel.
In his keynote speech, Minister
Wammen acknowledged the
strong bond between the U.S.
and Denmark and underscored
the importance of enhanced
cooperation to face the security
challenges ahead. Wammen
also stressed the importance
of NATO, and touched upon the
matter of great interest to a
number participants – the Fighter
Replacement Program.
The key message at AmCham’s
2014 Transatlantic Roundtable
and Annual Meeting, was that
the transatlantic relationship is fundamental
to the global economy. The events were
hosted by Danske Bank at their magnificent
“Kuppelsalen” auditorium in the center of
Copenhagen, featured a series of insightful
presentations on the state of the transatlantic
relationship.
In his keynote, Danske Bank CEO, Thomas
Borgen gave his personal view on the global
economic outlook, emphasizing that while
the crisis is by no means over, we are now in a
situation where “the glass if half full.” To put
this in context he added, “and coming from a
banker, that is very good.”
Picking up on the previous speakers, Minister
for the Economy and the Interior, Margrethe
Vestager, underscored the importance of T-TIP
to the Danish economy.
In late August, AmCham held a Meet the
Leaders session at host Crowne Plaza
Copenhagen Towers with Tax Minister Morten
Østergaard. The Minister discussed the
government’s tax reforms, including his broad
vision ‘Taxation that Works’, which supports
competitiveness, growth, investments,
productivity and talent attraction.

AmCham’s Board of Directors is tightly
organized, and highly active within the
organization.
AmCham’s Board of Directors are
a committed group of company
executives, who make up AmCham
Denmark’s chief governing and
policy body. The Board of Directors
are democratically elected by the
membership for three-year terms.
Through the donation of their time
and experience, the Board members
are responsible for the overall
strategies and policy decisions of the
organization.
Anders Krab Johansen,
Managing Director &

Børsen Newspaper
Mr. Johansen gave
his thoughts on the
government’s growth

of a new government.
He also discussed
the current public
rhetoric surrounding
multinationals.
Inger Støjberg,
MP, Venstre
Ms. Støjberg gave her

within her party, as well
as insight into their
policies toward business

Tax Minister
Morten Østergaard
Minister Østergaard
discussed a number of
topics relevant to the
international business
community, and
reviewed AmCham’s
2014 Policy Agenda.
AmCham conducts four Board
meetings per year to review the
organization’s business. Additionally,
these meetings are also an opportunity
for the Board to meet with decision
makers and thought leaders, in order
to broaden their knowledge of current
affairs, and how they might impact the
organization.
In 2014, AmCham’s Board of Directors
held Board Roundtable meetings with
several important figures.

Knowledge Sharing
25
AmCham’s network is loaded with expertise,
therefore AmCham works proactively to enable
knowledge sharing through relevant events.
U.S. Politics is always front and center, and the
2014 U.S. Midterm Elections were no exception.
In May, six months prior to election day, AmCham
participants gathered at the Marriott Copenhagen
to hear U.S. political experts discuss and debate the
potential outcome of this critical election, and what
it could mean for businesses globally.
Jesper Steinmetz, TV2’s US Political Correspondent,
set the scene for the debate by describing the most
heated battles, and the issues that may determine
this election.
The panel discussion was moderated by Torsten
Jansen (LEAD Agency), with panelists including
Steinmetz, Søren Pind (MP for Venstre), and
Spencer Oliver (Sec. General of the OSCE
Parliamentary Assembly). With many opposing
perspectives, this panel was lively, to say the least.
In September, Hill & Knowlton hosted an AmCham
“Business After Hours” session on ‘NeuroMarketing and the Science of Sales,’ where
AmCham members learned why their customers
make the decisions they make.
The main speaker was Hill & Knowlton’s CEO, Bo Øksnebjerg, who
studied biology at university. Although one does not readily relate
biology to marketing, in reality every decision we make is related to a
neurological response in our brain.
Øksnebjerg delivered a compelling - and witty - background on neuro
marketing, the study of these responses, and how marketers might be
able to tap into the primal brain of their customers.
More than 30 CFO’s from some of Denmark’s largest companies
gathered at Rydhave for the 13th annual CFO Networking Master Class,
which featured a keynote by Frederik Lotz, CFO, Arla Foods, who
shared his views on the role of today’s CFO and how they must look
“beyond budgeting” in order to take a more active part in developing and
executing company strategy.
This exclusive event was hosted by U.S. Ambassador Rufus Gifford and
co-organized by AmCham Patron Members Deloitte and Oracle.
In November, more than 100 participants gathered at the Copenhagen
Marriott for an Emergency Meeting on Cyber Crime. AmCham Denmark,
in cooperation with OSAC (Overseas Security Advisory Council) and
partners Deloitte, Palo Alto Networks and Symantec, organized this
critical event to discuss the massively growing threats to business.
The event, which was aptly titled Align Business and Security Now
focused on the need for businesses to have a holistic approach to cyber
security, and to move the discussion out of the IT department and into
the board room.

take further to key decision makers.
Analytical Instruments Committee
On April 30, AmCham welcomed 200 researchers,
chemists, suppliers and industry experts at the
Scandic Copenhagen for the 14th annual Executive
Seminars in Analytical Chemistry (ESAC), exploring
the latest developments within Life Science/
Biotech, Pharmaceutical, Food/Environment and

Finance Committee
In December, AmCham’s Finance committee
was asked by the Danish Tax Authority (SKAT)
to participate in a roundtable regarding Transfer
Pricing. SKAT’s Director, Jesper Rønnow Simonsen,
emphasized his shared interest in an orderly and
predictable tax environment – and demonstrated
his personal commitment by participating in the
entire workshop. The meeting was a great example
of AmCham’s committee’s ability to be heard by the
authorities, in order to open a dialogue on improving
ways forward.
Healthcare Committee
In August, AmCham’s Healthcare
Committee met with senior
representatives of the Danish
Regions including Region Zealand
Chairman, Jens Stenbæk.
Discussions focused on th 2013
“Sund Vækst” initiative, and how
the public-private collaboration
can be strengthened. The meeting
further emphasized the already
excellent relationship AmCham’s
Healthcare Committee has with
the central players in the Danish
healthcare policy area.
AmCham’s Healthcare Committee

focused on how fundamental
the public and private sectors,
as well as R&D, are to growth,
and how limitations in one area
will inevitably spill over into
the others. Members of the
committee engaged the Minister
in a lively discussion on a number
of issues, showing a lot of
common ground, and a mutual
interest in working together
towards faster, better and more

were extremely enthusiastic about the project, which
we hope to bring back in 2015. Participants included
Rambøll, FL Smidth, Microsoft, Maersk, McDonald’s,

Policy Agenda
The aim of AmCham is to help build a more
competitive business and investment climate
in Denmark, one that encourages international
companies to choose to invest in Denmark. This
involves being actively engaged in the public debate
on broad policy issues and presenting politicians and
stakeholders with suggestions and initiatives aimed
at making Denmark a leader in the global economy
AmCham’s 2014 Policy Agenda was launched in
the beginning of the year – at the very heart of
Danish politics; Christiansborg, and was hosted by
Nadeem Farooq (R). The Agenda is the foundation
for AmCham’s policy outreach and dialogue, and it
includes policy recommendations in six key policy
areas that are of particular interest to international
companies.
Tax is obviously a key issue, and AmCham has
regularly met with the tax ministers and key
politicians to discuss the concerns of the international
companies in this area. In 2014 this included a
meeting with (then) Tax Minister Morten Østergaard.
The Voice for International Business
Speaking up for international companies means
reaching out to key stakeholders
and being present in the public
debate. This includes media
appearances, Op-Eds, dialogue
and roundtables and not least
an active engagement at the
annual Folkemøde. Here, in the
face of the staunchest opponents
of globalization and free trade,
AmCham has demonstrated its
commitment by not shying away
from controversy, in 2014 by
organizing a debate entitled “In it
for the Money? – The contribution
of Foreign Companies to the
Danish Society,” which featured
Danish Minister for Trade &
Development Mogens Jensen and
U.S. Ambassador Rufus Gifford.
The debate was skillfully
moderated by Torsten Jansen
from Lead Agency and included
representatives from three
AmCham member companies;
Mette-Marie Harild (Medtronic),
Tom Garner (Bristol-MyersSquibb) and Charlotte Mark
(Microsoft Development Center)
as well as AmCham Executive
Director Stephen Brugger.
While on Bornholm, AmCham’s
Stephen Brugger also participated
in a debate “Is Hygge For Danes

for Denmark to attract and retain
foreign talent and was organized
by the Confederation of Danish
Industry (DI).

In order to support the Policy
Agenda, AmCham conducts a
survey amongst international
companies in Denmark, which
provides the data for the annual
Business Barometer.
Presented at the Foreign
Investor Summit, the 2014
Business Barometer showed that
companies are in fact continuing
to invest in Denmark, but are
creating only a limited number
of new jobs. Additionally, nearly
half of the companies surveyed
are considering moving jobs and
investments out of Denmark –
primarily due to high costs.
This set the scene for a panel
debate with Karin Gaardsted,
chairman of Folketinget’s
Committee for Business, Export
and Growth, as well as a number
of business representatives,
including Alan Forsyth (DuPont)
and Birgitte Thygesen (Biogen
Idec).
Transatlantic Trade
In the face of increased
globalization and attention
turning to the Asia-Pacific
area, AmCham has pointed to
the continued importance of
the transatlantic economy as
the biggest engine of trade,
investments, jobs and growth in
the world. But there are still gains
to be made, and with negotiations
on the T-TIP speeding up in
2014 there is a real possibility of
achieving even freer trade between the EU and the
U.S.
The transatlantic economic relationship is at the
core of everything AmCham stands for, and AmCham
therefore advocates a comprehensive T-TIP whenever
and wherever possible. In 2014 this included the
Transatlantic Business Summit, the Foreign Investor
Summit and several media appearances. The effort
to promote a better understanding of the T-TIP will
continue in 2015 – in close cooperation with the U.S.
Embassy in Copenhagen.
“Foreign companies play a vital role
in the Danish economy and have tremendous potential to help Denmark
out of its economic challenges. That’s
why we need to continually work to
improve conditions that help attract
and retain foreign companies.”

WHAT IS T-TIP?
“Imagine what happens when you take the world’s largest market and the world’s largest single
economy and you marry them together with the principles and the values that come with it. T-TIP will
do for our shared prosperity what NATO has done for our shared security, recognizing that our security
has always been built on the notion of our shared prosperity.” Secretary of State John Kerry
The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership
(T-TIP) is a comprehensive free trade agreement between
the United States and the EU member states, that will:
• Make it easier to invest by removing custom duties
on goods, and improve market access for goods and
services
• E xpand cooperation and remove unnecessary
differences in regulatory barriers, while preserving
high standards and protections
Together, the U.S. and the EU are seeking to create a
global open trading space. With our economies covering
over half of global GDP and about one third of global
trade, we have the opportunity to set the new global
rules for trade and investment worldwide.
This global space that we will create together will help
ensure greater prosperity. We believe that open trade
and investment markets create networks of prosperity.
Openness, transparency, and the rule of law are the
cornerstones of democracy and long-term economic
health. T-TIP is a partnership that needs our vigorous
support.
Who Will Benefit?
Ultimately, this is an agreement about and for our
citizens. If we get this deal right, consumers will
have a wider choice of products and services from a
greater range of producers, and the best of the strong
safeguards in force on both sides of the Atlantic.
Consumers and producers – especially small businesses
- will benefit from lower tariffs and fewer barriers to
trade. Uniting 800 million citizens with a common
understanding about the rules for trade and investment
will create more opportunities. That leads to growth and
growth leads to employment.
CALL TO ACTION We ask you to read this
insert, get the facts, and help explain to your
colleagues, customers, employees, and partners
around the EU why we need this agreement now.
THE STRATEGIC VALUE OF T-TIP
Looking at a more global
perspective, T-TIP is a critical
opportunity for the U.S. and
Europe to set global norms – for
other markets and agreements
outside our borders, and in other
regions.
It bears recalling that the reasons
to support T-TIP go well beyond
trade and well beyond economics.
The United States and Denmark
– and the United States and
the European Union - work
together on a huge range
of issues, from supporting
economic development, to
security cooperation in NATO,
to our collective efforts to fight
terrorism.
The world is a safer place when
advanced democracies stand
together, and a weaker one when
we remain apart. Building a
stronger economic partnership
and breaking down trade barriers
will modernize our transatlantic
alliance and make it more secure.
When the EU and the U.S. can
agree on standards, and when
we can work with like-minded
countries to promote the wider
adoption of those standards
internationally, our collective
size sets a de facto global
standard. What we achieve with
T-TIP will affect people far from
Europe and North America. This
international influence will help
produce greater consumer safety
everywhere, while also ensuring
that the playing field for our
companies worldwide is based on
these new higher standards and
best practices, not a race to the
bottom.
And so we have this incredible
opportunity to modernize the
global trade and investment
system. And the United States
and Europe can show the way.
PROMOTING
SHARED VALUES
Creating prosperous and
stable markets between
countries requires
promoting our shared values
of openness, transparency,
and rule of law.
SETTING GLOBAL
STANDARDS
The U.S. and the EU should
set the global standard
for strong labor rights,
environmental protections,
safe food, and intellectual
property rights.
UNLOCKING GROWTH
OPPORTUNITIES
Tearing down unnecessary
trade barriers - tariffs, red

consumers, and vice versa.
T-TIP
“T-TIP is an opportunity
to get more out of the
already close EU-US
relationship, by creating
growth in business, trade
and jobs on both sides
of the Atlantic. An ambitious T-TIP agreement will
set the standard for trade
agreements globally.”
Nils Smedegaard Andersen,
CEO, A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S
BUILDING BRIDGES

for growth and jobs. An ambitious
T-TIP-agreement is going to
further strengthen the strong
economic ties between our
economies.” – Karen Hækkerup,

There is potential for the T-TIP
agreement to reduce existing
barriers to investment as well as
to limit future regulatory barriers.
There is scope for further U.S.
investments in Denmark and
vice versa. Opportunities for U.S.
investments in Denmark are
especially strong in sectors such
as cleantech, ICT and life sciences, while the scope
for further Danish investments in the U.S. have been
found to be especially strong in activities related to
green growth (climate, energy and the environment),
ICT and shipping.
Based on Copenhagen Economics (2013) we expect:
• Danish exports of goods and services to the U.S
to increase by 14% (+DKK 14 billion relative to
2012 levels)
• Danish imports of goods and services from the
U.S. to increase by 17% (+ DKK 9 billion relative
to 2012 levels)
“Danish companies already have a strong position in the U.S. market. With T-TIP and the elimination
of tariffs, mutual recognition of standards and equal access to public procurement, they will truly be
able to consider the U.S. market as their second home market.”
Karsten Dybvad, Director-General, Confederation of Danish Industry (DI)
BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS
T-TIP will not endanger any of the high standards, labor protections, requirements, or other regulations in the signatory countries.
In fact, in the trade agreements pursued by the U.S. over the last several decades, it is the U.S. that has required its partners
to more effectively enforce environmental and labor laws, or to take on new commitments to increase environmental and labor
protections.

Opportunities for Small Businesses
OPPORTUNITIES FOR SMALL BUSINESS
On both sides of the Atlantic, SMEs are an important source of innovation, new
products, and new services, and are already benefitting from transatlantic trade.
With T-TIP, small and medium sized companies stand to gain much more than big
industries.
Lower costs and greater efficiency will unlock opportunities. Small businesses
are already major exporters but there is potential for small businesses and even
individuals to be drivers and movers of modern trade. We have the chance to
make customs more efficient and paperwork simpler so entrepreneurs can easily
access new markets for their products without the hassle of unnecessary red tape
and delays. As the rules and standards are made simpler, more transparent, and
more consistent – but not lower – SMEs become able to compete more widely in a
newly enlarged market, gaining the same competitive advantages that only large
multinationals enjoy today.

which would further benefit efforts to

MYTHBUSTING
MAINTAINING HIGH FOOD SAFETY STANDARDS
We believe that consumers benefit from increased choice of safe, healthful and
nutritious foods. By basing food standards on science, we set standards for safety and
nutrition that other countries can follow. This should not only provide a model for food
safety in third countries, but should also make it easier for U.S. and EU businesses to
compete in those markets, and vice versa.
There is a healthy
ongoing debate
about T-TIP
throughout Denmark
and the EU.
Help us ensure it’s
based in fact.
PRESERVING ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTIONS
We seek robust environmental commitments. T-TIP will allow regulators to cooperate on
eliminating duplicative approval processes and product standard requirements. These
more efficient and effective regulations will better protect consumers, workers, and the
environment.
MAINTAINING INVESTOR PROTECTIONS
Nothing in U.S. agreements prevents a government from adopting or maintaining nondiscriminatory laws or regulations that protect the environment, health and safety, or
other public interests. The U.S. and the EU believe in investor protections as an important
part of the rules-based international trading system.
PROTECTING PERSONAL PRIVACY
Transfer, storage, and processing of data are essential to 21st century economic activity.
The U.S. and the EU share a deep commitment to the protection of privacy and have
engaged in discussions outside the T-TIP context. Discussions are motivated by a
practical need to reconcile data privacy systems that, while equally committed to the
protection of individual rights, use different mechanisms and legal structures to protect
those rights.
LOWERING COSTS FOR SMALL BUSINESSES
Small businesses are already major exporters, but T-TIP can help them be even bigger
drivers of trade and prosperity by making border procedures more efficient, shipping
and customs paperwork simpler, and internet transactions more seamless – in all
of these ways enabling entrepreneurs to more easily access new markets for their
products. New export opportunities should be available to those who thought trade
was out of reach.
