Playground Structure and Installation at Roe Park, 105th Street and Roe Avenue
Policy Issue: Whether or not to award a contract to Athco, LLC for installation of a
new playground at Roe Park, 105th Street and Roe Avenue.
Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends awarding a contract to Athco, LLC in the
amount of $250,000.00.
Background:
On February 16, 2015, the Governing Body authorized staff to modify the
bid process and request proposals to design and install a new playground structure at Roe
Park, 105th Street and Roe Avenue. A total of six proposals were received from playground
representatives. Following receipt of these proposals, staff members of the Parks Services
Department met and reviewed the proposals for content, active play elements, creativity, site
utilization and other criteria relative to playground design.
After due consideration and review, the proposal submitted by Athco, LLC was deemed to
have the best overall play value and site utilization for the park. Attached is the proposed
playground site plan and drawings depicting the layout and playground components.
This playground will be incorporated into the overall improvement and enhancement project
planned for Roe Park. Staff is recommending awarding a contract to Athco, LLC for
installation of the playground and will be using the City’s standard construction contract
template.
Budget Impact: The amount allocated for this playground structure is $250,000 and will
be paid for with funds budgeted in the CIP for the Roe Park Enhancement project (PR1623).
