A proud member of Paying for Non-Medical Personal Care Services For many families the ability to afford In-Home Care is an important consideration. Paying money now for personal and companion care can save a lot of money later by helping you avert large out-of-pocket costs on much more expensive health care tests, procedures, facility care and medications. And of course the best part is that your loved one can remain at home longer, which studies repeatedly show, keeps them happier and healthier. Although the majority of costs for our services are “out of pocket” or private pay, there are sources of funding that can help pay for the cost of home care. Please note, Medicare and virtually all types of primary/private provider health insurance DO NOT pay for long term care. Here are a number of different ways client/patients and their families pay for home care services: • Long Term Care insurance - the catch 22 here is that if you already need home care services, you probably do not qualify for a policy. In addition, most policies have an exclusionary period after you first sign up. Nevertheless, it is fast becoming a popular method for covering long-term care expenses. There may be tax benefits associated with a LTC policy and recent changes in the law allow consumers to protect a portion of their assets they would typically need to spend down. Arista Home Care Solutions can put you in touch with reputable providers of Long Term Care insurance. • Reverse Mortgages have become a popular way for seniors to access the equity in their homes. The cash you receive from a reverse mortgage can be used for any number of purposes and several of our clients are paying for care through a reverse mortgage. Reverse Mortgages are a federally regulated loan. We recommended you consult with a trusted financial advisor prior to committing to a reverse mortgage. Arista Home Care Solutions can put you in touch with the right people. • VA Home Aid and Attendance Services Pension: If you are a veteran and served during a defined period of war (declared or undeclared) and are receiving or expect to receive home care you owe it to yourself to investigate this overlooked benefit. A surviving spouse of a veteran may also qualify for this pension. This benefit can pay up to $21,108 per year for a veteran plus additional amounts if married. You should definitely visit with your local VA Office to learn more about your eligibility for these benefits. • The Dept. of Veterans Affairs also has a program for eligible Veterans that pays contracted Home Care companies directly for Home Health Aide and Homemaker services. The veteran must qualify medically and there are limitations to the number of care hours allotted. Arista Home Care Solutions, a veteran-owned company, is pleased to work with the VA to provide this service for qualified veterans. • Medicaid Waivers: The state of OH through the Passport Program provides pass-through funding for the purpose of providing family caregivers a break from caregiving responsibilities. To find out if you qualify you should visit with your local county office that supports seniors. The Lucas County Office on Aging; Wood County Committee on Aging; Fulton County Office of Aging; Ottawa County Senior Resources; and, Sandusky County WSOS Community Action Commission can provide further information to their respective residents. • In SE Michigan, the Monroe County Commission on Aging and the Lenawee Department on Aging, equally support programs for subsidized care, available for individuals and families that qualify. • Organization Grants: A large number of organizations that are disease or condition based will provide respite care grants for those who are qualified. This includes people with Alzheimer’s, dementia, TBI, MS, MRDD, and the list goes on. For information about any of these funding options, please don’t hesitate to call Arista Home Care Solutions at 419-754-1897. Ask for Clayton.
